Basically wanting to have it running better, start better, perform better. Read that the electronic ignition is the way to go about it.

Ive heard good and bad things about the 280ZX distributor swap so I have something tossing around in my mind that id like some opinions on. I was thinking Mallory Unilite Distributor, MSD 6A or 6AL ignition and an MSD coil. What do you guys think? Thanks

Thanks for the help. With further forum searching it seems some people are having troubles getting the timing right and the 280ZX dizzy upgrade either works or there is a problem, this has me worried, i dont want to run into trouble. I just want the car to run better. Any more input would help. Thanks

Hi wavemux How do you find the electronic ignition on your 240Z. Thanks to both for the info, it has pointed me in the right direction and helped me understand. Alot of people seem to run the 280ZX distributor but any opinions on the mallory unilite distributor? Is the 280ZX dizzy a strait swap for the 240Z dizzy? Sorry for the questions just trying to make things clear for myself. So to clear it up if i get an electronic dizzy, msd ignition, and proper coil, and then replace plugs and wires I should be good to go? Thanks

Im looking to upgrade to an electrical ignition system on my 1973 240Z. I was thinking of going with an MSD ignition and coil. From what I have read on the forums im getting confused on what I have to do with regards to the distributor and what I need to do to have a successful setup. Can someone please explain everything I need to do to get this working properly and what parts I will need. OR if there is a link to a write up. Thanks for the help.
  9. Street car will be the main purpose. Ill try and look more into the wheel and tire sizes. I couldnt seem to find anything with regards to the 0 offset which is what concered me the most.
  10. Hey guy, So i got a 73' 240Z and im looking to put some wheels and tires on after I get the struts and springs done. Im planning on putting Tokico Illumina struts with Eibach progressive springs. Is this a good set up? After thats done im wanting to put 16x8 Rota RB's in the rear and 16x7 in the front. Both have a 0 offset. Will this ccause any rubbing issues? What will fitment be like? Also what tire sizes would you recommend? Thanks for the help.
  11. What might be helpful is if anyone has a picture of all the connections made in the center area of the dash. I'm under the impression that the heater panel harness is seperate from the main dash harness, is that correct? Also on my passenger side i have 2 blue wires with female conectors. Which of those blue connectors should i connect the red wire from the heater harness into? Also there is a blue wire coming off of the 6 pin connector that connects into the fan switch. Is this blue wire for the AC option? Also I have a fairly long blue wire that leads underneath the black box at the back where all the hoses connect into. Anyone know what this is for?
  12. After replacing the dash on my '73, my ignition switch is causing me HUGE grief. I connect the battery, and can go from lock to off to accessory to run no problem. Backing it off, I can go from run to acc to off to lock, but at that point lock is powered. And if i try to remove my key, it want's to start. Got a new ignition switch, same problem. I've disconnected all under my steering wheel again, just the switch into the 6 pin connector, and it still happens. Any ideas? Shot relay? Moderator edit from PM exchange:
