E30 head? Alan?
Hi Guys, I stumbled across an E30 head today. The only info I could find out about them is that they came on the Japanese 2 litre 6 cyl motors. But the head is here in Australia!?! Is this something I should go and get before someone realises it (i.e. it's rare or something)? Any ideas how it differed from E31? Help appreciated, I'm stumped on this one!

Emblem Missing ?
My 73 Auto also had that badge. It wasn't there to hide anything as the hatch is definately off a 240 and the car hasn't been hit in the rear.

260Z 2+2 Perth $$$$$$
That is true. Can you believe people were even buying them into the 80's? Sheesh! Then again, until the recent models people were buying Falcons and Commodores with 50's technology...

260Z 2+2 Perth $$$$$$
Hahaha. I've just finished reading all this talk about MGB's etc and how they compare to zeds. What makes it truly interesting for me is that whilst I have a 240 my father owns an immaculate MGB GT which is great fun to drive. I am not an MG snob, but some of the claims above are a little silly... What people have to remember is that the 240 came out 10 YEARS after the MGB. Whilst the magazines of the day comment about how they compare, it's like putting a 280zx against an N32 300zx. Hello? I'd say that there'd be a greater difference there! The real thing that killed off MG and all the other British car companies was the lack of reliability in the cars and the politics of the homologisation of the British car industry that stifled any real inventiveness. The MGC, a car that should have been as good as the zed, wasn't because of the politics surrounding which 6 cylinder engine to use. As history has shown, it was a real error of judgement. Comparing the two cars to drive is an interesting task, and whilst the zed is quicker, there is no doubt in my mind that the "feel" through the MG gearbox is far superior. In fact, apparently Mazda tried to copy the feel and the sound in their early MX5's. One has to remember that whilst it is easy to label MG people "snobs", chances are they have been supporting a classic car movement since the birth of the zed itself. There is some snobbery to get around, however I feel that truly open minded people are learning about the importance of the 240. Snobs are everywhere, even in zed land... The zed will always have one problem, however, the fact that it was never a convertible. If it came out as such, I feel that the following would be quite different today. Still, I couldn't give a rats ars coz I'm a VERY happy owner!! I do have one gripe tho... the constant belief that the zed was the highest selling sports car of all time. If the MX5 hasn't already passed it, I feel that this statement is pretty ludicrous. It is clear that the 240, N32 and 350z are completely different cars and feel that whilst they do have a 'z' after a numerical series, this claim is rather poorly supported. The MGB, however ran fairly much unchanged for nearly 25 years or so. So come on guys, love your fellow classic car owner!!

Any tips on head gasket replacement?
Its a 260 with 240 carbs. I figure that since it is a 77 it probably has a c-grind cam and therefore the carbs + new cam could make quite a difference!

Any tips on head gasket replacement?
I think I might replace the cam whilst I'm there to get a better profile. Can you guys recommend a grind or should I just stick with the best from the factory, i.e. an A-grind cam?

AUSSIE 240z or 260z
Quite a few tend to be sold outside the normal means, i.e. through the clubs. Try joining the Nissan Datsun Sports Owners Club if you want the inside on those... in fact I believe there is an awesome one for sale at the moment, but it is more like 15k. Apparently it is worth every cent!

Any tips on head gasket replacement?
HELP!! I hanve to replace a 260z cylinder head gasket (stop laughing!!). Any tips before I start? I've done a traditional B-Series 1800 BMC motor before, however I've never touched an overhead cam and I'm a bit nervous. Please help!!

Oh crap.. another zed!
I agree that 2+2's handle better - in a straight line. The longer wheelbase makes for better high speed stability, but through the twisty bits there ain't nothin better that a short car!! To be fair to the car, the photos probably don't do any justice to it, the camera is crap and it needed a bloody good wash as it had sat for about 5 months or so. Spent today giving it a tune (and swearing that 240z carbs would be SO much better) and getting the heater to work as the solenoid has gone. Some nuff nuff had advanced it to 15 BTDC..sheesh! I just hope my 240 looks as neat when I'm finished..

I know where there's a K box. It's in Melb though, so if you know of a way to get it up there...

What would you pay for this?
A good, crack free centre console for a 240 is more like $200. IF you can find one. Do you know where there are some for 50-100??? Tell me.. tell me!!!!
