Adjusted the tappets before you tuned the car? Could also be a fuel issue, do you have an itermittant blockage?

I think safety in modern cars has a lot to do with it. The fact that Toyota recently stopped airbags as an option on the Echo is clearly a backward step. Perhaps if the government grew some balls and said, "Right, by 2006 every new car in Australia has to have 2 airbags, by 2007 it has to have 4 and 2008 6 airbags", but we wouldn't want to offend companies that despite massive government funding and a bouyant economy still can't crack a profit in Australia would we? I always figured that we should let the "grey imports" flood in, a la New Zealand. Would you buy a sh*tbox 15 year old corolla (or whatever) for a few grand when you could buy one only a couple of years old with all the modern safety features for the same price? It'd get all the crap off the street in no time. Sure, we'd kill the local car industry, but at least there wouldn't be millions of dollars directed toward supporting an industry going bust. I hope there are no unionists on this website or I'm gonna be in the centre of a flame war!

That was only 1 of the points the "German dude" made. I believe he also called for better road conditions, more safety features on cars, better training and less shitboxes driving around. Australia must have one of the oldest / worst car populations in the world. Some of the rubbish I've seen driving around should be pulled over and forbidden from the road unless SIGNIFICANT work is done. This isn't a revenue raiser though, they'd prefer to chase speeders as it raises $$. I believe that P-Platers should be heavily restricted as to the choice of car. Power to weight is my main concern here, I've seen too many P platers driving Skylines, Supras, WRX's and V8 Aussie crap. Only last year a P Plate idiot near my folks place killed himself and his 4 passengers by driving a Lexus Coupe at 180kmh in a suburban street. By all accounts the road was clear (it was 4 in the morning) and the road conditions were good. It was purely driver error that resulted in 5 unnecessary fatalities. my 2c

I'm looking for some 240z bits: Centre console fusebox door, windscreen top corner finishers and rear strut caps. Can anyone help??

The crossfire new? Please.. it's based heavily on the Mercedes SLK which is now HOW old? I find it funny that Nissan took all the best things about 60's sportscars, added reliability and Japanese flair to make an affordable sportscar that destroyed the British motor industry. In reply, some 35 years later an American manufacturer tries to do the same by copying the Germans and all they can come up with is a different body-kit.. :stupid:

I'm fascinated by this conversion. RB's are great motors, there is no doubt about that, but why put a 4 in when you can squeeze a 6? If it's a question of cost, i would have thought that the motor itself would be one of the cheaper parts of the whole operation. Also, is the cost differential really that great between a 4 and a 6? One would have thought that to get the same levels of power you would then stress a 6 less than a 4. I would also wonder, whilst you'd be able to push the motor's centre of gravity toward the centre of the car, wouldn't this then spoil the weight balance front to rear? Pleas don't misunderstand, I'm not criticising in any way, I'm just curious.

Hi Mickie For your second question, search of the site yourself and look for "dasboard restorations" in QLD. They are a site sponsor, and judging by the extremely long discussions people have had about the quality of the work they are generally very happy. Do a search, or check the sponsors section for more. Your first question is best answered by determining what type of wheel you want. In addition, I would doubt that a 10-inch wheel would fit under a z without flares. Others will correct me on this no doubt!! Your best chance is to have a look on the net and see a wheel design you like, then try and find out who makes it. Performance in Australia make a few, including a minilite copy (called the mini-heavy by many people!!!) that is very popular, however the wheel of choice for many on this site is the "Watanbe" brand from Japan. These are expensive, but can sometimes be picked up second hand if you keep an eye out. Good luck on your hunt. Yep...two people typing at the same time. Nice one Halz, we think the same!

I believe the black thingys are called "escutcheons" and are relatively cheap new. There was a thread about it about a month or so ago. Can't help you with a new one though, not unless you wanna pay AUD$350 + postage for a brand new one!

Ha! You learn something evryday on this site. Awesome!! Still, 18k is expensive. Or have I got that wrong too??

I just replaced my dizzy in the 240 with a 280zx one. Now the tach doesn't work! :disappoin I'm going to check with the Pres of the Z Club in Brizzy why it isn't working, he's an auto elec so I'll get his work no. and PM it to you. He should be able to answer your questions too (I'd say) and do the work for you. Then at least you'd have someone with a passion for the cars working on it..

Indicators on the guards, just behind the headlights. Aussie 240's didn't have them, have a look at my pic or Halz's..

$18,000 Ebay 240z Hmm.. seems a lot. Looks like it has 260z front guards too.

I actually quite like them, and seriously thought about buying one at a few years ago, but a z looks NOTHING like a Capri!! Sure they've both got four wheels..
  17. Gee posted a post in a topic in Introductions
Hmph!! Yesterday I was stopped in traffic by someone who pulled up next to me, obviously anxious to talk about the z. He wound down his window and said " that's a great looking Ford Capri". He was (I think) trying to impress his wife/girlfriend/ significant other (who was in the passenger seat) by his automotive knowledge.. Ford Capri?!?!? Sure, the bumpers are off it at the moment, but a fish n' chip V6 banger? Oh please..I was tempted to say it took me ages to modify it to look like a 70's Japanese sportscar, but resisted the temptation. At least he could have said "Ferrari Daytona!"

Hi Everyone, I've just sourced a new-old stock 240 centre console. I don't ever want it to crack around the choke lever mount so I was thinking of mounting the choke lever directly to the transmission tunnel rather than to the console itself.. I've heard of people doing this before, but never actually SEEN it, does anyone have any photos / descriptions of brackets etc they have constructed to mount the lever?
  19. I just had a zx dizzy installed in my 73 and the tach doesn't work any more. Ergh... can ANYONE help?

Doing an RB swap into an early zed...hmm.. you won't be that popular here! Have a look at Fast Fours this month to see a nice example. Anyway, good luck on the swap.. If you are serious about the whole thing have a surf over to hybridz.org, they should be able to help you out... there are a few people who've done it here too.

Thanks, but ZX Strut caps are different and all 240/260 caps were black anyway. All those stores can be found on this website in the contacts section. Failing that all 3 have websites so a quick look on google should turn them up. I believe there was also a thread approx 12 months ago that resulted in a comprehensive listing of z suppliers in Australia. Use the search function on this site to find it. Getting a whole car worth of interior parts could be difficult and (maybe) costly. Carpet is no big deal though. A hint? You are obviously going down the "resto" path and although you seem to be costing the whole idea, I'd be spending more time looking at the bodywork. This is the most expensive part of the z cars as they RUST. A cheaper option will nearly always be to buy a good/great car than a resto. Unless you buy a complete lemon you will save $$'s in the long run. Plenty on this site will attest to that.

You could try the (few) secondhand places around to get an idea.. Zworx & Z Car Workshop in Melb or Zparts in Sydney. The easiest colour to get a match would definately be black though as the largest % of cars had this colour interior. Secondly, it's the easiest colour to paint over panels if you can't get a full set of the one colour. I have a red interior (which was a factory colour) and I've never even seen another car here in Australia with it. Consequently getting replcements are darn near impossible. On the other hand, I have a mate with a black interior and it's a lot easier. There are places in the US that sell these bits new, but prepare your wallet for an aboslute hammering....and I think they're all black anyway.
  24. I seem to remember reading somewhere (Alan will no doubt correct me on this), that the head was good for only about a 5hp gain anyway. Is this right?
  25. Gee replied to MikeW's post in a topic in Interior
My brother has one in his 77 260z 2+2 and a mate had one in his 2+2 also.
