350z v 240z - Alan
I'll have to read the article again, but I got the feeling that despite the 240z v 350z theme, he really didn't compare the two cars per se. It was more a discussion about the 240 abutted with a summary of the features of a 350. This also happened in a magazine article here in Australia fairly recently where they claimed on the front to have a "vs" type comparison, but again merely just did a summary of the two cars and smacked 'em together. I notice that you said that they sat on the article for a while. A few months before they had a "coming next month" type page in the mag which advertised the comparison - and it did not appear. That explains it then! So have they done the photoshoot on your car yet Alan, or are they waiting until a later date? If later, maybe they could do a comparison between a UK-delivered Z, a ZG and your 432R replica? Now THAT would be interesting reading. I remember when those classic car mags used to do articles where they compared (say) a MK I, II, III & IV Spitfire with each other. Wouldn't it be great if they compared a 240, 260, 260 2+2 and a ZG? I guess this might not have the readership interest though. Have any english magazines done these types of comparison before??? I guess it must have been done in Japan, but in an English speaking country? There was that one last year in OZ, but that was more of a "timeline" type article. Enough of my rambling..

350z v 240z - Alan
So Alan, when were you going to announce the fact that you were in the June Classic and Sportscar? Did you have to set the journo on the straight and narrow on the Goertz myth? Shame they didn't have a bigger pic of your lovely ZG...

Z Mag Articles
I don't have those original mags, but I have got some ye olde American ones I picked up at a market. You can come by and copy them if you want. I also have a 260C/240c/200C parts manual if that would be of use. I don't know if the bits from them transfer to a K?

Kpgc110 Gt-r
Oh no.. really? You were about 5-10 minutes away. :stupid: Sometimes the Prince Skylines come up for sale in Melbourne as there is a register down there as part of the NDSOA. Maybe you could email Shannons and tell em you're really interested in buying it and could they send some photos to you before you make the journey down?

PPI - buying my very 1st 240z
Things I can see; Rear hatch trim missing. Combination of red and black interior trim is wrong - it should be all one colour (red now very hard to get). Paintwork looks pretty good, however the fact that the engine bay is a different colour would put me off. I don't like where the speakers have been placed. I'm not sure, but I think that is a structural part of the car. Fuzzy photo of the engine bay is difficult to see properly. Can anyone else see anything? I'm not sure of the prices in the US (I'm in Oz), but I think you could get a more original car for the money - if that's what you want. I'd be wary of a new paint job too. My advice would be to look at as many cars as you can and then make up your mind.

Red 240 interior
I went with the dye. When I bought the car the interior was extremely faded - especially the rear struts. In order to try and get a good colour match I pulled up the carpet and cut off a piece of the vinyl that had sat underneath. I then found a place that colour matched vinyl spray and got them to make up a can. After which I sprayed the doors, rear struts and the vinyl under the centre console. It actually came up better than I expected and for about 30 bucks is a lot less than a new interior - plus I have some left over to fix it if anything ever goes wrong. The seats I did not spray. I figured that any paint would rub off on my back + butt - not a good look. As such I had them retrimmed in red leather. I'm going back to Melbourne to pick up the car in a couple of weeks. I'd be happy to take a picture then if you want.. otherwise there is another guy on here with a silver car and red interior. I think his name is SiLvEr32 or something like that.. Thanks for the offer of the centre console. I'm in Australia and postage might be excessive. That said, if anyone has a NOS console...

Red 240 interior
Like I said, I've got one and I live in Australia. Car is in Melbourne at the moment, but will be moving up to the Gold Coast soon. The only other red interior I've seen was on a friend's car. He believed that the interior had always been black, but after pulling up the rear panel to do some work, the back was red. As a result, mine is the only one I've seen that has not been overpainted in another colour. His car was originally silver too, I'm not sure which cars were limited to red interiors...anyone? Initially I didn't like the idea and was seriosuly thinking of painting it black too. Now I'm kinda happy that I've got a car that's a bit different. Changing the carpet to red (from black) made a big difference in the look of the interior. Previously, it was a bit of a mish-mash with red seats/panels and black console/dash/carpet. Now it at least has some sort of common theme......

Red 240 interior
Not necessarily. Red interior doesn't automatically mean white car. Mine's silver and has a red interior..

what should i offer a guy for this 240?

what should i offer a guy for this 240?
Depending on the condition of the parts it might be worth it. An uncracked dash must be worth at least that? That's if it's not a dash cap! Why not take a few photos and post them here? The boys will soon notice every detail regarding your "investment".

what should i offer a guy for this 240?
Take Bambikillers advice..buy the best car you can afford. If this is all you can shell out, then you can't afford a zed. Restoring a car in this condition requires a lot of time, skill and money. I'm not saying that restoration is not a worthwhile process, but when there would be cars out there requiring far less work than this one, you might as well go down that path - it's not as though the cars are super-rare or anything. It'll also cost you a lot more. Hang out at this site, cars pop-up all the time. Regulars (like Ed and Bambikiller) tend to hear about cars that are for sale that are not advertised here. Why not buy one you can do a rolling-restoration on? You can enjoy the car whilst fixing it up that way..

I would have thought that the nationals would have had a better turnout, but I've never been. It was fun, and great to stand around and crap on about zeds with other people. Hopefully Gav gets as good a turnout at his Vic gatherings!

red_zed
I think it looked great. I'd prefer deep-dish wheels though as these had a +ve offset. They are real Watanabe's datfreak!! This car used to be Alan Stean's car and has had big $$'s spent on it. The gearbox alone is worth more than some complete cars! The question is Gav, does it make you want Wat's even more????
