Ben, are you part of the Houston Z club? I work in Spring and live in Conroe if you need an extra hand with your rebuild.

I had to extend the rod by 1". Works perfectly now. Not sure if its the manufacture or a misprint in the cross-reference book. I havent taken it out again to measure total length.

So, I got reverse back my adjusting the slave a little more. I think what my main issue is the length of the rod on the master. I cannot get the peddle height to the factory recommended 8.78". I am just under 6" to make the connection. Anyone know how long the rod should be on the clutch master cylinder? Regretfully, I do not have the old one to measure but didnt think they were any different.
  5. Just so that everyone knows, it was set too lean. When the engine was idling, the temp would rise and start doing that. I adjusted the mixture and the car runs great now. Thanks goes to Steve and them at ZTherapy for helping me with this.
  6. My z has a run issue after it warms up. I can drive around for about five of so minutes. Park and let it idle, and this is what happens. I turned up the idle so that it would run long enough for me to video it. It normally dies when this happens. It will do this continuously even after I restart the car. I am guessing it is a fuel problem at the carb. Thoughts? Here is the video:

Its a new slave and master cylinder. And fluid looks good in the trans.

After my car heats up, I cannot shift into reverse while the engine is running. Just grinds. I have to turn the car off, then put into reverse, and restart. If its cold, I have no issue putting the car into reverse with the engine running.

I bought the car not running and was planning on upgrading the master cylinder and calipers. Figured I would ask while I was at it. I have head people switching to the z31 master cylinder, but to do that you have to replace the hard lines, which is what I am doing anyway.

Has anyone changed their hard brake lines on their Z? I have a 72 240z and went to bleed the lines and test they system and found that one of my hard lines had a hole. What size lines would you all suggest? Is there a kit that suggested? Which master cylinder should I go with? Upgrade to one with a built in bias?
  11. I have a 1972 240z that I am getting road worthy. All my seals on the brake cylinders are leaking, so I decided to upgrade all the way around. I have the maxima rear disk conversion, and plan to buy the toyota from calipers. I see a lot of people mention upgrading the master cylinder for the extra fluid needed. I was thinking the one that came off the 280zx. Thoughts? Recommendations? I found this one on ebay (I would just local, just needed an image): http://www.ebay.com/itm/BECK-ARNLEY-WORLDPTS-Brake-Master-Cylinder-072-8240-/320831371879?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Model%3A280ZX&hash=item4ab30a3a67&vxp=mtr

I have always wanted a 240z. But I am not new to the Z family. See link below: http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10100119750171618.2470464.12710909&l=5d80ddeffa&type=1 I rebuild the Shiro the best I could considering I was a poor college student and I bought a very rare car full of the previous owners mistakes. I just finished getting a 1987 300zx na on the road and my boss bought it from me because I stumbled across this: http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10100119743465058.2470463.12710909&l=2fdfc5a7bd&type=1 I am the thrid owner of this car. It has 83k original miles on the od. I got an extra l24 engine, differental, SU carb set, both intake and exhast manifolds just to name a few. The car has been parked in northern Louisana for the past five years with a presumed bad fuel pump. I am hoping to restore the car. Now I have to figure out if I am going to restore it to original, put a v8 conversion, swap for a l28/l28 turbo, or maybe an RB swap. Hard to justisfy not using one of the two l24's I have for it, but a LS series v-8 sounds good too. Suggestions?
