emergency brake over tightens rear wheels
I don't think you can put the wheel cylinders on the wrong sides. I looked the brakes over real good don't see anything wrong with the return springs or the hold down springs or clips. I put it back together and been driving it with out using the emergency brake with no locking up. When I came back I lifted the car and can turn the wheels with no problem. Also loosened the bleeder screws to see if they where under pressure and they where not. I'm going to try using the emergency brake again to see if will over tighten the brakes again.

emergency brake over tightens rear wheels
Some great imformation on how it works. Yes I put on a new master cylinder, wheel cylinders, bleed the brakes with dot5, clean and painted the backing plates and installed new hold down and hardware kit at the same time. I turned the drums also. As someone said the master my not be releasing the pressure off of the rear shoes. Im going to have to drive it a little then check to see if I can turn the rear wheels. Or see if there is pressure in the rear brake lines as someone else suggested. I will let you know if I find the problem. Thanks Dave

emergency brake over tightens rear wheels
On my 71 240z I removed all the rear brake parts to clean and repaint. Since I use the emergency brake all the time it will adjust the the rear shoes up so tight the car will hardly move. What a time to getting the drums off. I dont see anything I did wrong. I know everytime you put on the emergency brake it will adjust the star wheel up to tighten the shoes up. I watch this happen when I have the drum off and someone pulling on the emergency brake handel. What stops it from making the shoes get so tight?

left rear turnsignal blinks when right turnsignal is on
You were right. I look all over tracing the wires found nothing crossed or wrong. I call the man I got it from and he told me he rebuilt the turnsignal switch. I took it apart and didnt find any thing wrong. When plugging it back in it didnt work at all. I played with the connection it began to work again but still the wrong lights blinking in the rear.Found one of the wires was lose in the plug. Thats when I though the wires may have come out of the connector for him. I looked at a picture of another switch and found two wires were crossed in the connector. I switched them. It works right now. Thanks for the idea.

left rear turnsignal blinks when right turnsignal is on
I know another turnsignal problem. I have read many thread but didnt find one with this problem. Picked up a 71 240 on sunday. Build Date of 8/70. headlights work, tail lights work, all running lights work, hazards work, but when you turn on the left turnsignal the front and inside signal show you turning left but the right rear is blinking instead of the left. When turning on the right turn signal then right front and inside signal show you turning right but the left rear is blinking instead of the right. Looked at the wiring behine the rear plastic panel and didnt look like any changed any thing. Took the turnsignal switch apart and didnt see any thing wrong. Cleaned the contacts put it back together still same problem. May it be the hazard switch? Also dash lights are dim at night. Yes I turned the dimmer switch just not very bright on all gauges. Will a higher output alternator help? Thanks Dave

Hi I"m in east Dallas. Would like to get together sometime. 1971 yellow 240. First car I ever bought. Daily driver till mid 90's. Had to buy a truck. Car has been stored untill just recently. 2 engines the original and the one in the car now. Switch the engines out in 1981. Polished head, 3 webers, headers, mallory dist, cam is a 274F 274 duration and 480 lift. Just got it running. Heater core leaking. Removed it today. Cleaned the box all up today and repainted it. Waiting on parts to reinstall. I have a air dam on the front ,looking for the front turnsignal valance. Ive been reading that I need to replace the blower motor with a mid 90's honda civic. Has anyone done this? Radio antenna mast was broken in storage. Any suggestion how to fix or which one to replace it with? What are your opinions about putting down some kind of heat and sound barrier on the inside of the car. Thanks Dave Email is speedracer58@tx.rr.com
