thats horrible! well looks like you got a nice solid one to work on, im wondering the same question. if my unibody is too far gone and rotted, can i salvage everything off it and put it all into a 72 unibody? if so what can I use and what wont fit? anyways good luck with your build.

hey 5th, thanks for the reply. the issue isnt the battery box, its actually all there. the issue is behind the front tire coil spring, where the mount and inner fender wall meet. it looks like its where the engine bolts to the frame. its kinda scary, the rest of the unibody is pretty solid. has some pieces cut and welded from a previous owner. this is my first build and its got me a little scared. can you explain onestep? im gonna google now. thanks again

Hey guys, I scored a 73 240z that i started to tear down, the rear fenders are rotted, passenger wheel well is partially rotted, around the gastank vent thing is rotted, but today I started tearing apart the front end and thats when i got a little scared, i posted the pics of the areas im scared about, should I be? or can I get prefab metal for these areas (ive only seen fenders, hoods, etc)
  10. wow! i just scored a 73 240z, and i have it almost stripped down, minus the dash, windshield. motor and tranny. i want to dive in and start cutting rot, but i need to see how bad it really is rotted underneath. the front wheel wells have some holes close to the motor mount thats got me scared. should I be? anyways , keep the updates coming , ill be tuned in.

grretc, i may be interested. hows the uni body? may want the whole thing, ask, and let me know. i got the front fenders off today, and the wheel well is rotted threw right around the base of the motor mount? is that a common area of rot? its on both sides. and to be honest its kinda scary. I was hoping for only "body" rot. can you replace unibody pieces? the "fin" that the air duct runs in is pretty brittle too where it comes to a point. im gonna jump into the body portion of the forum and see what i can find. but will continue to strip the car down to the bare bones, and see whats what.

Also the motor turns over but doesnt run.(bad fuel pump?) the clutch pedal will not go in at all (bad slave cylinder?) parking brake is shot. also it has the domed carbs on it with a black adjustment srew on top. and im assuming its a "3 screw" carb because its held into place with three screws. just making sure as 73 mid year is where things started changing. and lastly the front bumper looks right for the year. but it doesnt match up with the bumper mounts. ill be uploading some pics here soon. thanks

Hey all, so glad I found this site. Well after years of putting it off, I found a 1973 240z!! its sat for ten years so im in the process of tearing it down now to evaluate the damage by rust. the floorboards were cut out and replaced already. the glass and stainless are in great shape, and the body is rotted or rotting in the normal "rot" areas. need new rear inner fenders . rear fenders, rockers, and possibly a drivers side door and passenger side fender.. im just hoping nothing else (frame wise is shot) anything I should check asap to make sure i should attempt to rebuild this? this is my 1st ever rebuild. I love these cars and have always wanted one. anyone in columbus? well I hope to get to know some of ya real soon. mike
