Tuning 40 DCOE Weber 151 on an L24
I just want to thank you guys for posting all this great info. Just finished the resto on my series 1 and after a shake out drive this weekend discovered the notorious flat spot at about 2200-2500rpm. I'd set the floats to 8.5mm but know the actual fuel level is about 32-34mm below the jet well surface. Btw, my carbs are 40DCOE-18's. This thread gives me hope that the fuel level is the main culprit. Now if I can just stay clear-headed while digesting all the data!

My steering wheel restore detailed.
Thanks for all the help and info. It appears the the wheels were originally manufactured with a typical plastic resin forming the core of the wheel. This plastic (or epoxy or polymer) was very common with all manufactures back then. What makes Z wheels somewhat unique is that they added a wood infused resin on top of the core. This top layer is thin. This is what gave it the wood wheel look. Will some of you guys give me your thoughts- yay or nay? My concern is that my wheel had a number of areas where the top layer is worn away. All that is left is the base core with no woodgrain- so, it's just single color plastic. My experience with stains is that they just accentuate existing woodgrain. Applying stain to these high wear areas is just going to change the color- not create a woodgrain. Thoughts? I'm not trying to be negative and some of the restored wheels shown earlier look beautiful.

My steering wheel restore detailed.
OK, I need a reality check. . . My Series One wheel has wear areas where the simulated woodgrain is gone. All that's left is the ruby colored resin (kind of the coloration of a marble). Not sure if my wheel is worse than most or if Series One's used a different process. The wheel obviously needs restoration and would like confirmation that variations of the above listed techniques will work or if my wheel is too far gone. If it wasn't a early wheel I'd just buy a better starting piece. Thanks for any help. Chuck

turn signal flasher location and mount
Hi. Kind of hesitant to post this cause it seems rather dumb but . . . I'm restoring a 1970 car. Was the t/s flasher secured with any kind of mount? When I bought my car the flasher was just stuffed up into the pedal box area without any kind of mounting. Haven't been able to find any references or drawings. If anyone has a pic showing the stock mount/bracket that would be very appreciated. Thanks for the help.

Correct Tire Size for Stock Restoration
Thanks a bunch for all the help and info. I was intending to use the orig 4.5x14 wheels. Now that you mentioned the brand, that was the manufacture I'd seen. Don't know anything about them. I'm sure they're no match for today's performance tires but its good too know they're a decent tire. I appreciate the interpretation of the rules. I'd looked at that section. I'd seen the tire listing under the consumable items section and was hoping the ZCCA had settled on a acceptable replacement size. I was visiting with Mike B last summer and he thought this was maybe the case. In my perfect little dream world I could put 195/70x14 on it and everything would be good. Incidently, my car as purchased did have a set of 175HR's on it but old, worn and a no-name brand. Was originally going to junk them but decided to hold on to them until this size issue was settled. Maybe I should consider using them on the original wheels as a car show set. While we're on the subject of judging- many years ago I did a couple concours Mustangs and was also a concours judge. The rules were you could only judge what you could see. No touching things, no lifting carpet, no moving things in the trunk, etc. Is ZCCA judging the same? Thanks again for the help.

Correct Tire Size for Stock Restoration
Hi everyone. I'm nearing completion of a stock restoration of a Series 1 car. Was wondering, if I show it in a stock class, what tire size I can use and not get point deductions? Are all the Gold Medallion cars running the original 175HRx14's? I think I remember finding one place that still sold that size. Thanks for the help!

original jute material
Hi Redzedsled and Mike and thanks for the info and discussion. At this point, I've already cut and fit the jute using the material supplied from ReOriginals. I was pretty happy with how closely it matched the original in texture although it was more of a tan color that matched Kats photos than what apprears to be the original brown color. It did not have a coating on either side. For what its worth, my car (June '70) had a couple pieces of the original jute. It seems to match the patterns on the upper left. The different pattern (under seat and tool box area) from earlier Series 1 cars seems to be the beginning of the rear seat mount support running laterally from the tunnel to rocker. I think Nissan started using this somewhere around March/April of '70???? Thanks again!

original jute material
In the years since this post was new has anyone found a source for the style jute that Kats used? I've spend a considerable amount of time looking for a source and haven't gotten anywhere. Did find a company in Vancouver, BC that lists it on their website but haven't been able to get a return call and emails get returned as undeliverable. Any info would be a huge help!!!

Series 1 Carpet Help
Here are top and bottom pics of the floor mats. Thanks again for the info. Its interesting to wonder what situation led to these mats being in the car. If anyone else wants to chime in on the mat/jute/carpet question I'd be interested in hearing. I'm trying to gauge whether things were pretty consistant or whether somewhat variable.

Series 1 Carpet Help
Great info. I suspected at some time in the cars past someone had used a mixture of parts. I'll post pics of the floor mats but might be a day or two. Car doesn't have the rubber mats that go behind the seats- just really worn carpet that doesn't seem to really fit around all the mounts, brackets, etc. Chuck
