hello jerry... great story. i just stumbled upon this thread while at work, and read most of the first page. i'll read more on my own time, but i was wondering if you ever got to make this trip..? best ~ rob.
  2. thought i had located a NOS set... haven't yet. still on the hunt.
  3. panasport still does as well. both the 0 and the +6 offset when last i checked at 14"-16" diameters. just a subtle point, as all can be corrected for, but the 205/55/16 tire is much closer to the stock rolling diameter (+.52 variance) than the 205/50/16 (-2.74 variance).
  4. i'm running 16x7 at an offset of 6mm... 205/55/16 tires. no roll/flare... and no rub. i like to be able to rotate, so staggering is out for me. did you have a specific style or brand in mind?
  5. indeed... has the series 2 and beyond sail pillar emblems and the 1972-76 hubcaps.
  6. still looking for a pair...
  7. good morning... i'm looking for a 240z radio for parts. ideally an AM unit, but what i really need is the wiring from the radio to the harness plug, so an AM/FM would work as well... all external wiring has to be intact. thanks ~ rob.
  8. thanks carl. i would consider going that high for a NOS set... though i'd feel more sane a little bit lower ;~}. i might consider having mine powder coated, but i doubt i'd go through with it. the problem with mine is that they're actually too nice. they were new a few years back and still in great shape, but i sold the car for a short while, and when it came back they (along with the valve cover) had been polished. perhaps in time they'll dull down to a more factory look, but if i could find a NOS set, i could probably recoup half or more of the cost by selling these...
  9. thanks mike. i'll keep it in mind. i have a friend in the powder coating business if it comes to that... but i'm in no great rush. i suspect a new set will turn up eventually.
  10. yep... thanks for the help guys. that's the problem. the nissan dealers recently superseded the part number to the later (1977-78 i think) style that doesn't say "DATSUN". as recently as last year i bought a set of the old style directly from nissan of chesapeake, but they can't get them either. i figure somebody is sitting on a set or two that they don't need, or has a new set left over from a restoration that never got off the ground... hopefully. i have a pretty presentable used set, but if i can find new ones...
  11. last spring i had 2 sets of new/NOS S30 240z door sill thresholds with the "DATSUN" impression. i sold a set, then gave a set to a friend in need, because they seemed to be readily available. now i need a set for myself, and can't find any to purchase. typical for me really. anyway... if anyone knows where i might be able to pick up a pair in new condition, the information would be greatly appreciated. thanks ~ rob.
  12. 100% agreed on all counts... except his name... which unless something has changed, is Rick.
  13. i got to park next to 13 for a while at watkins glen in '11. took a couple pictures of the illegitimate grand-daughter sitting next to the patriarch of the z family. makes you feel good just to be around the car.
  14. beautiful car. indeed. i love the color as well. my first z was 302/leaf. now... i guess i'm still a member of the green club, just the dark horse of the group. thanks for the pictures, and keep us posted.
  15. actually... in the end he wanted the car for much less than i was willing to accept. the good news is that 3 other interested parties found the car at basically the same time yesterday morning. by the afternoon i had a legitimate buyer who used the buy it now option and made a deposit, as well as 2 others who wished they had moved a little faster. sad to see the car go, but it seems she's headed to a good home in california.
  16. hello dltalfa... i was hoping for an update and any advice you may be able to share. i have my 1981 toyota supra currently listed on ebay, and have received a similar request from a seemingly legitimate interested party, also in the netherlands. all went well with your deal..? any unforeseen hoops to jump through? thanks for your time, and best regards ~ rob.
  17. done. nice z... good luck.
  18. thanks! yep... the one in austin has been on the market for a REALLY long time. looks like a good example and a well preserved car. i suspect that if it was a 5 speed instead of an automatic, he'd have sold it long ago. he's a full 2 years late to be the actual 1st car off the line (1979 model), so first generation is his intent there i guess.
  19. thank you... it does seem like they've pretty much just disappeared.
  20. sure thing... i put this one and one other in the "garage" here... but the car has perhaps the best internet presence of any mark I supra in the world. she's on wikipedia, she hangs out in the garages on 2 (now) z-car forums and the celica supra forum, she was in a article in the detroit news a couple years ago, and the previous owner had a car domain page that was still up for the car when last i checked. add in a current craigslist add on the raleigh, nc page, and chances are pretty good that if you put "1981 supra" into any search engine, the car will come up in the top few images.
  21. hi chuck... surely did. small world. regrettably, as of last week i've put that car on the market. had to "flip a coin" between putting the supra or the z up for sale after i was informed that i wasn't permitted to sell any of the kids, and the z is more a member of the family...

three of my favorite things (food, my kids, and datsuns) recently merged into a memorable moment... ~ sitting at a table by the window at the applebee's in harrisburg, pa a couple weeks back, when my middle son said "daaaddd... a datsun's out there". the weather wasn't perfect, my back was to the window, and he's barely 4, but he's not a "story teller", so i figured there must be something similar enough to cause the confusion. i said "wow, how odd. must be something else. what color?". just as he said "yellow", the two closest lanes of traffic that had been stopped at the red light on the far side of the road started to move, and exposed a clear view of a yellow 240z. been here over a decade, and i recognize most of the (few) local S30 cars... but i've not seen this one before. next time, i'll believe him.
  23. i just wanted to take a minute (a couple years after registering) to say "hi". i've also updated my garage with a few pictures and some general details. my name is rob, and i have an addiction. i've been around z-cars for quite some time, and i think that i've "met" many of you either online through ebay or zcar.com, or even in person (carlisle import show/datsuns at the glen, etc.) over the years. looking forward to meeting more of you as time goes by, and learning more every day about the addiction that plagues us all. best ~ rob.
