  1. motorsport shows the same part for all 240z years, but a different rotor for the '74-'78 260z/280z. perhaps that later fitment is what you ended up with...

i love my "bowtie" H4 hellas. one of my favorite non-stock aspects of the z.

there's also a single unit listed on ebay right now, but the seller has dyslexia (be it temporary or permanent). search "cibie headlight HRC"... $150 or make offer.
  4. ... and the mouse living in my basement should be able to climb in and take the fastest time of the day at the next pro-solo autocross.
  5. actually... looks like a good solid starting point. welcome, and enjoy the ride.
  6. i suspect the dip is seasonal... and their graph seems to bear that out. in certain areas there's probably not much variation seasonally, but in the salt belt, people generally resist offering nice cars (that would raise the average price) for sale in the months they wouldn't want the cars to leave the garage...
  7. i'd like to think this is accurate... mine would be worth $24k or so with what's been spent over the last 8 years. realistically, on a strong day i'd cross my fingers and hope for $16k-$18k. hopefully i don't find myself in a position where i have to sell the car again, and instead i can keep slowly "investing" more money with a 50% return potential.
  8. auction ended... must have sold "locally".
  9. i've seen this one in person... and met the seller a few times. nice legitimate guy, and a good solid starting point for a restoration ~ from what i saw. not really nice enough to want to leave it as is, and disqualified for most survivor type events by the all over repaint. if it wasn't automatic i'd be in until the bidding hit $5k or so... but i'd bow out right about there.

translate... i can nOt. however, in every picture i've seen of mr. k's z, it had only a stock rectangular rear view mirror on the driver's side rather than round mirrors on both sides, and wore wire wheels and a rear spoiler... so i vote "copy". clean car though.
  11. the VIN is an RLS rather than an HLS, as the car is a 260z... would be the 5,894th left hand drive 260z off the line.
  12. crap. correction. just pulled one, and the shaft of the screw is definitely either zinc or cad plated. the head is either faded black paint or more likely zinc/cad aged down to looking like faded black. sorry.
  13. agreed. counter-sink type head (Phillips), black, no washer of any kind on mine as well... presumed to be original.
  14. i think there may be different lip depths for each offset in different production eras. my current +6 set made in 1998 has about 10mm more lip than my previous 0 offset set that was made in a few years later. unfortunately... neither necessary help you determine the specifications of the wheels they're currently offering.
  15. i don't think you can tell... the +6 on my car now have more lip than the 0 (in my garage pictures) that i had before... when logically the opposite would be true. they have less depth in the hub section. those look more like the +6 to me... but hard to say.
  16. with the 16x7 and the 205/55 i still made contact with the front valance on full turns. had to roll the valance lip just a hair. no other clearance issues... but i'm not sure there's an extra 10mm to spare on the inside... maybe the 0 for that reason, but plan to have some lip rolling to do with the 225s.
  17. "hello jerry"... i definitely share the addiction. i think my wife is just glad that my mistress has wheels. looking for a clean early set of tail lights... and maybe..? hmmm. how can i help you recover..?
  18. that's the deal of the year. i'll take 3 sets at $200 each. maybe 4. and i'd buy the seller a bottle of GOOD tequila.
  19. yep... i'm partially responsible for that. not that i control the value, unfortunately. i finally located two NOS sets from different sources... bought a bottle of cheap tequila, and bought both sets for roughly $500 per set. i figured one set may be better than the other... but once in hand they were both equally nice. the set that just sold for $599 was one of mine. i basically broke even after i covered the shipping/insurance, the $60 to ebay, and $18 to paypal. so... i have a set for myself, and i guess i'd buy another for $400 if the opportunity came along... to sell some other day. no tequila required.

that should ship nicely in a medium flat rate priority mail box... $12.80 should do it.

thanks for sharing. very well documented. as a semi-professional photographer... i wish i had documented the progression of my z half as well. looking back, much of the process is a blur.
  22. that's a whOle lotta S30 z-cars in a color that... SHOULD have been made.

i guess i'm famous now... since the 240z pictured in their article is mine.
  24. thanks everyone... this seems to have been the issue. pulled plugs - found more carbonization than i would have thought. cleaned them - half turn lean - ran 100+ miles including stop and go... two small "seizures". pulled - cleaned (all six still black) - another 3/4 turn. 85 miles. pulled - cleaned - front and rear cylinders showing slightly lean... other 4 normal enough. changed the plugs, filled the tank, and shut the garage door until after the new year. running better than "ever". smooth... good even pull... not smelly. i'm willing to say she's cured. hopefully time won't prove me wrong. i always like to see closure on threads like this so that they can be useful to others, and wanted to say thanks to all for the suggestions... best ~ rob.
