  1. How do I "clean out" the old grease?
  2. Thanks for the quick reply Blue,..but this is not normal manaul steering stiffness. I am very familiar with driving a standard steering car. I have ownerd several Z cars in the past and currently own a 1969 Triumph TR6 and a 1972 MGB. This is a very abnormally stiff steering.
  3. I am trying to sort out my newly acquired 240Z. I have a long list of issues, concerns and problems. I'm up to he steering. The steering is So stiff on this car. In fact, I recently got it running really well and decided to drive it around a little this weekend. The steering is SO stiff that after simply manuvering it in and out of my garage, turning around in my drive way a few times and some local driving, (no more than 10 miles),..my hands and wrist are so sore this morning I may have trouble working today. It takes all you can muster up to turn the steering wheel on this car. What can cause this and what do I need to do to remedy the situation?
  4. Ok,..I recently purchased a 1972 240Z that has been sitting for several years w/o running. I've got it up and running great, except I have a hard "clunk" at shift points coming from the right rear. Would this most likely just be a bad U-Joint on the axle or could it possibly be the differential mounts? Any help would be appreciated, Danny

Filters inside the carbs have been referenced a couple of times in this thread. I wasn't aware of filters inside the carbs. Where are they located?

This is either 1)- Weak fuel pump. 2)- Clogged fuel filter(s). 3)- Stuck needle valves, (ususally due to trash).

OK,...here is how to check the fuel flow to the carbs. Disconnect the fuel line to the front carb, (where it connects to the float bowl). Now, have someone hold a cup or bottle with the open end of the fuel line inside, and turn the engine over a couple of times. You should get a steady flow of fuel. If you have ample fuel flow to the front carb,..replace the hose and try the same procedure on the rear carb. If you have ample fuel flow to BOTH carbs,..it's a sign your needle valve is sticking.
  8. Thanks guys. I bought my first 240Z back in 1979. It was a 1970 model, (it was actually sold to me as a 1969 with a build date of late 1969). It had the guard bars on it. I loved the look and am trying to re-create that car again with my new 1972. Thanks!! DT
  9. I have a newly re-chromed front bumper and over-riders with new rubber strips for the guards. My question is; I also have the period optional gurad, (the chrome bar that connects to the front over-riders). How does this connect? Do I drill through my new rubber strips? Do I have to trim them? How does the chrome bar work along with the new rubber strips?
  10. Can anyone tell me the difficulty level for changing out the exhaust / intake manifold gasket on a 1972 240Z? I have "decent" mechanic skills, but not a pro. Thanks in advance, Danny
