I want to coilover my car, but scare to chop off original struts. So, I've looking for spare parts. Luckily, local Pick N' Pull has new inventory of same year of my Z. Before pick them up, I study how easy to remove suspension struts from the car. I learned removing spindle pins from strut is one of the hardest job... Friend suggest to get yellow tank of propane to heat up and hammering one the spindle to move back and force to loosen up before using spindle removable tool. My spindle pins are not rusted, and just hammering them, I could've remove both of them without too much work:D I guess I spent all of my luck for this year for this.

Hi Chas, I will remove extra metal from 280z and mount original 240z bumper frame. I got MSA Type1 spoiler for 240z already. Currently, I'm working on suspension and brake and try to make this car as running condition at first.

Thanks Chas. Over the weekend, I rebuild BMC and swap piston springs from original one. The stiffness did not changed. I guess it same situation of your 7/8" BMC. Since I rebuild, I give a shot to put it back whether it works or not. pumping brake pedal more than 300 times, the piston from caliper did not comes out nor other piston moves. I guess I need to rebuild caliper again...

Thank Chuck. I put it back on the car and pump the brake pedal. It seems something wrong with my booster or BMC or PB.... Brake fluid does not come out well. Since Brake booster and BMC are rebuild. I forgot to check the length of the the push rod of brake booster. Also, BMC is from '79 280zx 15/16 BMC. I got rebuild kit @ BrackDragon for '84 BMC. I just used piston of the repair kit. since it looks same. But once I push it in,it was so tight. Too many variable need to narrow down the issue.... I will try the grease gun solution. Thanks!

Thanks for your advice. If i use grease gun, do i need to push in grease into brake caliper?

Hi idoxlr8, If I use paint stripper, and wash body by water and blow water by air, does it good enough for neutralization? I think using paint stripper for complicated area is faster to remove paint.

I'm rebuilding '91 Toyota 4x4 brake caliper. I could've remove 3 pistons, but last one cannot removed. I could've pushed in a little bit using clamp. Pouring PB Blaster, apply heat gun for long time before push air from my 60Gal air compressor. The piston won't move at all. Does anyone have tips to remove piston? Thanks, tamo3

Why not use paint stripper? Isn't it faster?

Wanted to get reproduction Japanese Fairlady Z Gille Mesh, I remove front bumper to see the capability. Also plan to mount 240z bumper. After removing bumper, the front height is raised a lot. It's more complicated to remove valence compare with 240z. 280z got extra metal plate for bumper mounting position that prevent direct mount for 240z bumper. I thought Datsun Spirits blog used to have photo of the metal plate removal, but he deleted blog post. So don't know how much metal I should remove from frame....
  18. After pumping fuel, engine is running, Yeah! But, Clutch, Brake is not working. Remove Clutch master and Brake Master & booster for rebuild. Strip paint of BMC and sand down the rust. Prime & paint it. Using '83 280zx Brake Master Rebuild kit from Black Dragon, just use piston only to rebuild BMC. Mount the rebuild clutch and Booster.

How about this one? Spacer - Silver Mine Motors
  24. Darrel, Thanks for your advice! Does it applicable to the brake line too? I'm rebuilding Brake Master Cylinder and booster also.
  25. I thought 78sid is talking about washer between Clutch Slave cylinder and the hydraulic hose. This is good educational thread to me also. I'm also replacing Clutch Slave cylinder and the hydraulic hose, but I lost copper washer somewhere... I got SS hydraulic hose. I don't know whether there is any advantage compare with rubber hose or not. I have one stupid question. Should I put locktite blue on it? or shouldn't?
