  1. I have broken off 6 drill bits trying to drill out a bolt that broke off. I have managed to drill 1/8 of a inch in to the bolt. What type of drill bit is the best to drill a bolt out? I have also broken off 3 of those reverse thread drill bits trying to get it out. Help
  2. so where can I order some Nickel Oxide Powder from for a good price?
  3. What is a good 300ZX forum?
  4. Interesting, I was thinking the exact same amount.
  5. I ran across a 1989 300zx with a locked up engine, needs a new engine. The interior is beat up a bit.. things held together with duck tape. The outside is beat up some, some rust etc. What should I pay for the car?
  6. Where is the adjustment done? Does anyone have any pictures?
  7. Sorry 1976 280
  8. Brakes lock up once the 280 1998 is driven to work and halfway home 25 miles to work. If I open the stem valve on the rear brake part of the master cylinder and let out a squirt of brake fluid they work just fine. I have the brake as far off the floor as it will let it go.
  9. Thanks, I have a 76!!
  10. Ok, The 1 owner that I got this car from told me that it is a 1976 280z. So I went and checked the VIN and it is 292669. So do I have a 1975?
  11. I want to put a nice shiny silverlike finish on several parts on several cars that I have. I do not want to spend a arm and leg to do it though. After researching it seems Nickle plating using Nickle acetate seems pretty uncomplicated and inexpensive. Oh by the way, I have a chemistry degree (do not use it anymore), but suffice it to say I know how to handle and deal with chemicals. So dealing with dangerous chemicals does not bother me. I see a lot of kits but in my opinion they are ripping people because they do not know any better and are weary of dealing with chemicals. I have had a time trying to find a chemical supplier here in Birmingham. I am sure that I can have these chemicals mailed to me. Where can I find Nickle Acetate? Does anyone have a formula/ process that they use that is inexpensive and gives nice siver shiny parts?
  12. Most of my experience is with gas welding anyway so because of that and the fact that I can use the gas welding for other things besides car work would be why I would by that to begin. Curious though.. the Arc welding that I did 25 years ago was with what I think you all called a idiot stick. Is wire feed MIG technology easier to use? Ok, quick question, I am in need to put a piece of pipe on my exaust now, however I will not be getting a welding set for at least a month. I do however have one of those butane torch things. Is it possible to weld anything with that. I am sure the answer is a big ol' NO. But would like to know
  13. Wow, this is the mose exaustive answer I have ever gotten,, And HIGHLY appreciate all the feedback. After reading all the posts I believe I am going to get a GAS (oky-acetylene) setup and then later on once I see I need a more versatle welder I will get a TIG setup since there is a ART to it and I have always been in to teaching myself to do something new. I see the apparatus for the gas is a little over a $100, how much do I expect to spend on the two gas tanks? Can the tanks be rented? how does it all work?
  14. Ok, I have figured it out. In most all the reads about bleeding the the brakes it only mentions bleeding at the 4 tires. It never dawned on me that I need to bleed the Master Cylinder also. So with my son pumping the brakes, I attached a tub to the back tire part of the master cylinder and fed it right back in to the reservoir. Pumped off a lot of air. Repeated for the other resovoir. Brakes are working wonderfully!!
  15. Need some opinions from some seasoned mechanics and restorers. What type of welding is best for Car restoration needs. Arc Welding or Gas welding?

    Good idea, thanks!
  17. Try taking the steering column cover off (I think there are 4 screws) and there are 2 wires and a plug that are attached to where you put the key in. Make sure they are firmly seated. Check the fuses also. You might want to clean the contacts in the fuse box and in steering column. I was having all kind of strange electrical problems, looked at the fuses, they were fine. Then I took all the fused out cleaned them with contact cleaner and a small wire brush, replaced all the fuses with new ones and then all the electrical problems were fixed.

How do you bleed the Master Cylinder, is it as simple as opening one of the bleeders while pumping, and then do it again on the other
  19. Ok, I figured it out. There are U shaped clips that hold them in place. In my case they were rusted in really good. After a day of soaking with a lot of penetrating oil, they came off and I was able to slide the cable right out.
  20. Anybody got some pictures or video of how to replace the Rear Handbrake Cable. I cannot get it de-attached at the rear wheel end.
  21. Yea, I figured it was something like that. I do not know where to look so I guess unless someone knows, I will just live with it.
  22. I have been trying diligently to fix my AC/Heat system. After reading many many posts I began to realize that something was wrong with the vacuum system in it. I started under the dash traceing the vacuum lines and I found that there was a major crack where the vacuum line goes in to the magnetic switches. This allowed the water ****, the outsite air and the mode door vacuum switches to function. I am left with one minor issue with it. When I go from AC towards defrost everything moves and doors open and close just fine. But when I do the opposite going from Defrost Hot to AC cold the mode door will not drop down to close the heating unit and redirect the air back out the front. If I shut the car off then turn back on again the door is then in the AC position. Of course I can live with this but it sure would be nice if the AC/Heat system was working perfectly.
  23. You all have been very helpful!! Thank you!
  24. You are correct and I really used the wrong wording. The correct wording would be "inexpensive" "a good price" "bang for my buck" A lot of the people that insist on buying me things prefer a website link to the exact thing or things that I want/need. Hence why I am looking for a good website.
  25. Well it is time for christmas and I am ready to make my Christmas list. What is a good place to get tools for cheep online? Also it would need to be somewhere that had a good selection. I am new to working on a car so I have a limited amount of tools and in my head I have a nice little wish list. Thanks
