One thing about an automatic transmission, after September 1972 ( after HS30-100001) the lower nose began to have air guides for an automatic transmission ZG . This made me think the Bonhams ZG would be an automatic transmission car , but the story would be different, the lower nose which has air guides would be a later replacement. Many of my ZG friends said when you buying the lower nose from Nissan back in 90s , it always came with a air guides . Note the car in a show room is an early example, with an automatic transmission badge on the left corner of the tail gate . Kats

Hi Chris! I said because the balance tube has a chopped rubber pipe , which can be seen for the automatic transmission, automatic transmission needs a vacuum pipe for its operation. The first picture is my November 1971 car . Kats

Alan , I too think that horizontal ribs are must be prototype, very unique. Other things which should be treated with caution are , they are I have been telling too , the difference in light cover trim ring . The one in the picture has trimmed bottom of the ring to be flattened for the bumper . And the screw positioning is different from the ordinary production cars . Kats

That is right Alan , yes I must clarify those pictures are my automatic car , not Bonhams ZG . I put them just for the reference. Thanks ! Kats

I see it , and I did not realized it , the real over fenders are the same appearance, chopped strand FRP finish . But for the front extended panel and the head light case , must be gel coat , I will see my ZG which is still all original , never been hit ( the car has minor injury on left door and fender ! ) . I see the car has no drain plugs on both sides of the floor, replaced at some point past and deleted passenger foot rest . I gathered information, this car could be September or October 1972 car , in that case , carbs and air cleaner etc are correct for the year I think . This car is the eleventh from the cut off date of a new big master vac , new pedal bracket, automatic adjustable clutch operating cylinder , FS5C71B went to sleeve type (Z432 remained flange though) etc .That was made in September 1972 , HS30- 100001. Thanks Alan , let me see !

After looking at the car , it seems to me the car is a manual transmission car. General condition of the car is tellimg me if someone who has done the car like this would remain many evidence of "automatic transmission" in it. I do not see the radiator has two oil cooler aduptor , nor see brackets for the cooler piping on both sides of the engine block, nor a temp sensor for the dual point distributor . Kats

I just want to show these pictures, the car could be an automatic car then converted to a stic shift , I am curious about the rear diff replaced to correct gearing for FS5C71B and , it must added a metal stopper (with a rectunguler rubber ) for the clutch pedal. Can someone tell what the code on the rear diff is telling , 4.1 ? 3.9 or 3.5 ? I see 73, that means 1973 . Or like Alan said, different carbs/air cleaner and intake set up, the car just had installed an automatic balance tube. I need to see a lot more carefully. If the car was an automatic, the specific code for genuine Fairlady 240ZG equipped with an automatic is 02662-0100 . Nice optional rear stabilizer bar .You may find other interestings. Kats

ZG is a little tricky for the kind of auction, I am afraid how many people can feel “ZG is fantastic “ . #1. Can Maroon be attractive for the people? #2 Sticking to the stock condition must be required for the kind of the auction ,the car must have hub caps and 5 inch steel wheels , in this style ZG looks little wired , you may think “why the car has over fenders? “ #3 G nose urethane bumper must have certain gap between the head light case , but the bumper itself must be nice and straight when you see the front of the car . And like Alan said , the upper front extension panel also must be nice and parallel with having the equal gap between the bumper and the bonnet. So , ZG is complicated, some must be looked “ imperfections “ but some must be looked neat and perfect. Small thing makes a big difference, and I hope when a perfect ZG is showing up the auction, people can feel it’s beautiful atmosphere from the car . Even more , when you are behind the wheel, you can feel the acceleration is really good and also handling is very well in high speed cruising, with a silence. The Nissan test crew reported ZG gains its stability when the car put a rear air spoiler. Kats

Hi Ben , You can find a good ZG , I think not taking so long time . This ZG was sold a right price for its condition, just in Japan pricing is crazy. Most of them are listed 8 to 13 million JPY , but all of them do not deserve its price because the condition is just like this car . I know you know about this but please do not forget about checking the paper before buying, the code 02662-0070 is a mandatory for proving it is a real ZG. Owning it In the US , the code doesn’t mean anything , but you may want to show it to a future buyer when you have to sell it . It is almost impossible to authenticate without this code . ZG doesn’t have specific serial number prefix on its body, and you can put every single ZG parts by your self to any car you wish . Only very experienced experts can tell the difference . RM Auction did provide the code ? I assume that kind of very professional and reliable, entertainment auction organizer is doing correctly as usual. Kats

Photo from the 70's my uncles 240z and a few other cars

I am so glad that seeing the real G-Nose set up out side of Japan. I guess your uncle was a rare customer who brought the set up from Nissan USA. Mr. K had a same thing on his yellow 240Z ! Kats -
A kit for GTR master vac is not available and will never be available , Nissan said . Kats
-
Patcon , I agree , after seeing this thread I googled “Mustang power brake Japan “ , lots of shops in Japan are listed , they will provide the kit . I really want to introduce this to Japanese S30 owners if the price is better than buying a GTR master vac . Some S30 repair shops already might know about this , just people like me do not know about it . Even so , it is very nice to know that we have a choice more than one . BTW , 47210-E4625 and 4626 were discontinued and will not be available anymore, I have just received that reply from Nissan . Still waiting for the reply of 47210-R55@@ , a kit for Ken & Merry GTR master vac . Kats
-
Hi , I am asking the repair kit , I hope Nissan still making it . Here is a link of my friend Mr . Watanabe was doing about repair job using Ken & Merry master vac . http://z432.sakura.ne.jp/bmv01.html And Prince Craft is doing repair job for numerous Prince and Nissan master vac . http://www.princecraft.net/pc04.html I miss the 47210-E4626 , it was on Yahoo auction some years ago about 10000 JPY ( 90 USD ) , sometimes we see it , so I hope more coming in someday. Kats

Oh , Nissan said 47210-R5511 still available!! 42200 JPY without tax . It is weird that Ken-Merry GTR was sold only 197 ? cars , but Nissan is still selling it for the car . We have to push Nissan making more parts for our S30s which are still enjoyed so many people around the world !! Or, powerful GTR owner’s club boss threatened Nissan to make it , ha ha . Kats Also , Prince Craft in Nagano Japan

Hi , nice work!! And it is a great source for you in the US . In Japan, Skyline Ken - Merry GTR master vac is usable for 6 inch vac , internal parts are only usable, not usable the outer case . And it was still available at 2013 . I now am asking local Nissan if it is still available new . https://blogs.yahoo.co.jp/power_planning/56600650.html Kats

Thank you everyone, I think so too , no more covers , that is our loss . Mr. Sudo really love Fairlady Roadster , he also did his work for his car . Nice red interior and navy soft top ! Kats

Thank you Ian , I did not know about 16300 has such a designation, like you said it is used so many cars , and still you can buy 21430-16300 from local Nissan today . Somebody said the cap 16300 is used for trucks as well .

Hi , thank you spitz 17 , this is an old thread , I want to put something about the stitching at the seat bottom. My Z432 has the vertical stitching as you can see , I must say it is not the original. The seat bottom must be repaired at some point in the past . I looked the vinyl closely, and found it is different from the other side . Today I visited Mr . Sudo , he is a real craftsman of upholstery for S30 . He said my Z432 ‘s stitching is not original, he has been dedicated doing the job more than 30 years , he knows what is original. I placed an order to him for a set of my early seats three years ago , he said I will be the final customer for his S30 seats restoration, he has been saying when the vinyl runs out , he quit the restoration for S30 . He has sufficient amount of vinyl for GTR , so he his work continuously being made , but not in a hurry. I am waiting it’s completion, he already made some pieces, I can’t wait to see it . He of course knows about the difference of early and late model , he uses various kind of tools for each model. if you are the upholstery guy , you can tell how he make the seats nicely and there are numerous his experiences fully applied. He said he would be the only man who was successfully able to access to the original vinyl manufacturer other than Nissan . He managed to make the manufacture to find out the original mold and make it useable , then the manufacturer accepted his order , some length of roll (maybe 100 meters ? ) , he did it a long time ago , he said he was not sure he would be doing right thing or not . Soon after the cooperation with the manufacturer, the manufacturer was merged by a big company , then unable to make the vinyl again . I said he did it right for us ! Kats

Yes please Captain ! I would like to see it . Thank you for the joining, like the last time you showed wonderful experiments of racing wheel nut , I am interested in this time too . Kats

After asking some of my friends about this , I tend to think there was a simple sealing type cap which was is used for the Z432 . I said 21430-E4201 was the only part number for the Z432 radiator cap from the beginning to the end , but this may not be correct reviewing the Nov 1969 Fairlady parts catalog ( 1st issued ) . The catalog listed only Assy Radiator, not mentioned about the radiator cap which is used on the radiator. This indicates we might have chance to have a certain part number for the cap . Just they did not show it in the first catalog . 2nd issued parts catalog is dated 03/1970 , as it is said later , the cap for the reservoir tank was replaced new one ( plastic) from Jan 1970 . We see 21430-E4201 for the first time in this 2nd issued catalog , also it is still listing 21430-E4200 ( cap push , reservoir ) , without mentioning a new plastic cap (21516-C0500) . but ironically at the production line , workers put plastic cap for the reservoir tank when this catalog was issued . So , I think there would be a simple sealing type cap there , maybe sharing with other models , and we know , parts catalog is not always correct and updated . I found a cap at the Rallye Datsun Roadster, I think this might be the one “ simple sealing type cap “ , as not showing “ A9 “ on the right hand side like a pressure relief type cap . And at the center part , the round rivet is different from the pressure relief type cap . Kats
-
You are right, the tank must have a little opening for helping suction, that is a check valve for the metal cap , and a tiny hole for the plastic cap . I drove my Z432 today , and i checked the reservoir tank , I see the coolant level raised about one inch before the driving. Engine operated normally, no hard driving, I now have a STD about the coolant level . Seeing my Z432 , two pressure relief type caps are working without any problem . I thank you all for the useful inputs here , I am learning and I need to amend some of my comments. So now , Why my Blue 240Z’s reservoir tank has air in the tube ? Looks like the coolant does not flow back to the radiator . The radiator cap is a new , and is a pressure relief type .It must be operational for both ways , let the coolant go out , and back in . Becaues of the radiator is not fully filled? Or there might be some cracks in the tube ? I need to check, it is interesting ! Kats
-
Thanks w3wikes, no need be pressurized, but need to be sealed at the reservoir tank ? Kats
-
Manuals , Fairlady Z manual for Japanese customers, and I have a very rare Fairlady Z manual written in English . Kats
-
Thanks Captain ! I did not know there is a check valve , so , even in my set up ( two pressure relief caps ) , coolant can flow back to the radiator as long as the reservoir tank is pressurized. I want to hear depressurized sound on the reservoir tank, but every time I pushed the botton, nothing happened . I wonder my Z432's reservoir tank is operating correct or not . The Fairlady Z manual says " looking at the reservoir tank from outside , to see if the coolant level is sufficient, half of the tank " this instruction is the same for the early type and later plastic cap type . I think we are on the same page there. But for Kats' installation on his blue HLS30U, he is using the later type reservoir bottle and that means an unpressurised bottle, one-way system. It looks to me as though Kats is getting quite a lot of coolant in the reservoir bottle. More than I would have expected. Japan has been pretty hot (to say the least!) lately, so maybe the cooling system is struggling to keep up? Kats, is the pressure rating on your 240Z's radiator cap quite low? Thanks Haha Confused Sad Alan , I just poured too much into the reservoir tank, I tried to let the coolant flowed back into the radiator using gravity ! But yes , my blue L24 is struggling in the high temp , I saw coolant level became higher than that of before driving. Kats
