  1. This looked very close to mine ! Kats
  2. Again thank you everyone, nix240z, thanks joined , Mike B ‘s examples will work great, if you sell a replicated grommet , how much it is going to be ? I did not know wider gap exists, I guess the gap has to be tight to stay the grommet in place. I did not know the softening the rubber method, is it also used for classic car which it’s glass weather strip can not be obtained but needs to look nice ? Kats
  3. Thanks everyone, I will be back tonight. Kats
  4. Thank you Blue, looks close to original. Please see the picture , the left boot was a replica at the time Z432 restoration, I feel something different when I saw it. Now I got it, it has a grommet which came from a store! I was asked which one do you want to put in your Z432, I said the right one please! I want exact shape and look...... Kats
  5. Which style do you mostly like ? Can I say I am doing my original style for the shift boot ? My favorite is ‘ grommet on top ‘ style. But I checked various pictures in brochures and old magazines, there are different kind of style. Enjoy pictures. Kats
  6. I wish someone can make a replica of this, rubber grommet for the early boot. If we can have this , we can have a replica early boot easily. Kats
  7. Early shift boot, My blue 240Z had a late shift boot (1972 model type) when I first saw it in the shop . I bought a stock early type 75150-E4101 in 2000 as a new , installed it and enjoyed. This boot had a not so early Nissan part number sticker on it , so I guess this boot was made in some 80’s to 90’s . This time I replaced it to a replica boot which has done by upholstery shop specializing for commuter bus in my town. I took off the boot from my car and bought a closest textured vinyl sheet (980yen!) then I went to the shop and they did a great job. Not perfect but I am very happy with the results. I have a NOS early boot in my shelf but this is not so flexible. I think it is not because of aging but for the thickness. This spare boot also has a not so early parts number sticker . My Blue 240Z ‘s former boot is the same , thick and not so flexible . Sometimes it became very difficult to follow the shift lever when in the cold winter morning. While my Z432 has installed a NOS early boot in 2007 , this is very soft , and still is . This soft boot had an old Nissan part number sticker, so it was made in 70’s probably. Texture is exactly the same for both soft early and thick late. So I rather want to go with replica ‘soft vinyl ‘ than stock thick boot . Kats
  8. Blue , or it was for an airplane. BTW, my friend who was S130 ‘BOSO ZOKU’ (wild street racers) really love 3.364 or 3.545 final gear for max speed competition. R180 / 3.364 is ordinary final gear for US & Canada , but it was naver available for Zs in Japan . Kats
  9. ‘Auction fever’ , we see same thing in Japan , 74,000,000 yen for a tuna , 3,000,000 yen for a pair of melon , buyers wants to pay big money ‘ first auction of the year’ . This time BH auction was a kind of entertainment show for the first time in Japan, we saw those well organized auction only in overseas. I think we are way behind , but I am glad that now I can see that kind of auction here in Japan. Kats
  10. Hi Patcon, yes , the blue dot for max torque at 5600 rpm , the red dot for max power at 7000 rpm, this is only for S20 engine i.e . Z432 and Z432- R. I do not know about Skyline GTRs, maybe some model year’s tach will be the same indication dot. Good question ! Thanks Alan. Kats
  11. Hi Gavin, I did not know people have been discussing about 10000 tach, I saw different type 10000 tach in that thread, is that a works racing car item ? Very interesting. Thanks Blue, I sent this picture to moelk , hope this can be used for his project. Kats I cleaned the lens which had a small hair scratching, now it’s gone !
  12. You tube for these cars, Every time I saw cars were moved by holding thin bumpers and body panels , it made me wonder sellers and winning bidders were going mad . Kats
  13. I am curious about “what makes this car so high priced ? “ Nissan USA ‘s program? Or not registered since the car was imported from the US ? Dust ? I do not get it this condition is attractive, BH auction declares “ barn find” , but personally I do not think this word is proper for these cars. I can not explain well , I just feel so. Many people know these cars were there and the previous owner could take care of them but did not. I feel sorry for these cars and for many people involved the Vintage Z program . And the parts ! So many new parts were installed, and so many parts were refurbished, but most of them turned “ deteriorated “ without using them . That is sad , waste of money and waste of people’s efforts. And waste of new parts. I assume this red HLS30-00630 would still be beautiful, sitting in a rich man’s beautiful garage without registered in Japan, if the car shows up on an auction it will go much higher than these two cars. Kats
  14. Thank you , everyone , I really appreciated all the inputs. I checked some other sources, the Safari gold is sold 12 000 000 JPY , and the Silver is sold 9 000 000 JPY. We are talking about this auction with my friends, we think right price for these two cars will be 2 000 000 to 3 000 000 JPY even the Vintage Z , for that condition. In Japan , LHD S30 has still been undervalued . And this bad condition, we are just surprised. Kats
  15. Oh my goodness, both hit JPY 12 000 000 !!!! (Approximately 100 000 USD ) It is way beyond my expectation. Kats http://car-moby.jp/280453
  16. Too bad , I could not see 240Zs showing up, I had to leave the stadium to go home. What are the final bids ? Kats
  17. It has started , I want the Pantera ! If it were cheap... 10 cars to go before the 240Zs. Kats
  18. Hi Ben, What a lot of things have been going through, your son makes me smile , ...check out that Datsun... I love it so much ! Kats
  19. Thanks Blue and Gavin ! This speed meter is cool too , it makes us proud . Our cars should be treated like Ferraris and Lambos. Kats
  20. I see , so a voltage type tach must always go with an electric distributor and an electric ignitor , right ? If they are not installed correctly ( mixed up, vice versa) , you may break them , that Is what I have read from the text so far. And I found this shop in Japan, this shop http://acqua-garage.com/NISSAN/Meter/index.html is doing repairs for the tach , and even they offer modifying your tach just like a works rally 10000 scale tach. The needle taking a rest at 6 o’clock is so cool !!! Kats
  21. Ben, yes the Safari gold car has some modifications such a 5 speed transmission, and a dual exhaust system etc. The owner was not happy about the finish of the car when he saw it in Japan, then he sent the car to a restoration shop to have fully restoration all over again . The auction date is Friday 12th , so it is coming soon. Kats
  22. Hello Ben !!! Long Long time no see, how are you doing? I hope you are enjoying your Z, it was 2004 when we first met at the junction in Long Beach ! How is your 260Z doing ? Kats
  23. Thank you Blue, I am now reading and learning which you provided. I want to know what the ignition system is, looks like it is interesting but I have to study hard. One question, you did wonderful work of tach swapping, Is the hybrid tach used for a STD ignition with a STD distributor in your 240Z? Or if you use it , is it mandatory to use with an electric ignitor with an electric distributor in your 240Z ? Kats
  24. Thank you Blue !! I did not know it is able to swap, what a wonderful solution . Am I the only one who did not know this here ? I have never heard of this in Japan, even some Z shop is telling it is almost impossible to make a replica , not only mechanical but also 10000 face. Or if it can be , you have to pay big money. Internal issues are cleared, then if you have some good painter for the 10000 face, you can get a Z432 tach easily. Some questions, #1 when did S30s have voltage type tach ? Was it related to the change that they became to have a transistor ignition system ? #2 In this swap, the 280Z tach is really capable to bring its needle up to 10000 rpm ? I am just a skeptical person little bit, because I do not have any electronic/mechanical knowledge. Kats
  25. Tachometer comparison, Left : Z432 , Right : L - series This Z432 tach is one of the most hardest thing to come by in working condition ( except works racing tach ) like an "Assy - air cleaner" whole set up. Because these parts does not share with Skyline GTR not other S30s . Z432 tach has only one yellow wire , this is a voltage type , L-series has two white wire, this is an electric current type, am I correct ? Kats
