Thank you Alan, I always love to here from you. You tell me not only Z but also old days of Japan when I was born like my father. You are not Japanese but you know more than me. Please keep it going. Hi Carl, Thank you and hope you and your family is doing well. I visited The Pierre hotel and took a photo in the ballroom 4years ago.I closed my eyes and imagined how much people were excited for the new Datsun sports car.It was a great show I think. I did not know The Beverly willshear was the place for introducing Datsun 240Z , my honey moon was the hotel, Jul 4th 1995. Sorry for off track but I well come every one any kind of speaking and any picture. kats

Thank you everyone, I thank you all and thank you for each of your inputs,I am enjoying reading and seeing every little details. Mr Camouflage, I had never seen that press kit before you showed us, what a great collection! Every time I see an early 240Z with D cap, I fall in love again. For me that is the best looking Z I have ever seen. Kats

Does anyone see the chassis number and Engine number? I think the engine is L24-107, if this is correct, it matches to the number on the owners manual. So, I believe 1971 owners manual shows a chassis number HLS30-0000? This could be matches to this slide film car. What do you think of it? kats

Hi Mike, I have never seen your picture, this is very interesting.Thanks. It reminds me I have a paper which is "Model guide", I am not for sure this is published as DATSUN official or not. The rearview shot, this came originaly from JDM fairlady. This car does not have rear over rider(but hand drawing) , JDM/Euro tail lights, no-rear side marker. The D on the hub cap is also hand drawing, emblems too.I think a mirror on the front wing is deleted.Fuel door key sylinder and rubber protector on the rear bumper side end is good reason for suspecting JDM Fairlady. kats Today I added Nov 1969 Slide film No.2, L24 section. You will be happy these factory photos, and much better colour condition than No.1 General section. Go to my web site, http://www.geocities.jp/datsunz903/

Thank you Mike, I do not want to sell, but I do not know how long I can play with my Zs. It depends on how many passengers on board every day!! kats

Hi Chris, They both silver cars must be HLS30-00004 and HLS30-00005.When I made an interview to test crew Mr.Uemura and Mr.Osawa some years ago, they showed me 1969/1970 monthly production data. Also they told me test cars are SEISAN SHISAKU #14 & #15. Cross referencing data sheet ,we reached this opinion. kats

Chris, You like her!! I do not know who she is, she must be at least 60 years old now.. Now I am working really hard on more films. kats

Thank you Mike, great information, some between 248 and 331, that make sense. HLS30-00476 (903 blue in Japan) has a welded bracket. Or the red car in the big picture and engine room picture's red car are diferrent? kats

Here is one from PPV TV show some years ago, this one is so nice, lots of Nissan testing S30 films are shown in this program. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kAoXzy8Prhk&feature=channel http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5sfR3Zj2WTU&feature=channel I have seen test/development films like these, but this PPV program was first time for me. This video is exactly showing how Nissan and Nissan Shatai made S30 for us!! You will note most of cars in this film are proto type , some have different tail lights and some have different interior trims. What I was surprised is, they started testing before tail light/steel wheel/quater exterior panel were settled down. Or these are natural, car making is like this, nothing surprise. I recorded and divided in short range, they all will be uploaded soon. You will see wiper test with half cut body, freeZing Z is operating defroster for the front windshield, crash test, e.t.c. kats

Hi, I red the other thread about 1969 car and it made me think about HLS30-00007. We recently have found very early L-series engined cars have Z432 bolt on the air cleaner. But this red car on the brochure does not have it. Also we have found very Early cars do not have a clamp for a master vac hose, but this red car does have it. I think if this red car is HLS30-00007, something should be cleared. What do you think of this? kats PS : also a green car from the brochure, this car does have a carpet on the rear deck. And without a hand- throttle. The red car too, without a hand-throttle. About a carpet, it could be installed before the photo mission. A hand-throttle, it could be removed before the photo mission. But Z432 bolts and the clamp, I could not imagine how/when they were installed.

Hi, Following informations are off set course but will be interesting to know Japanese Zs. Fairlady Z (S30S: standard model) has a simple radio,it does not have auto matic antenna nor automatic station tuning.See the first picture from the owners manual issued NOV 1969. The antenna is also different, this manual extension antenna has a big point while automatic antenna has a sharpened point. Even this antenna has a small key to lock the point to prevent from someone trying to extend badly.Mr Matsuo gave me this antenna,I will post picture in some day. See the second picture from the brochure issued NOV 1969. And Z(S30S) does not have a glove box light, nor clock, passing light switch, wheel cover, rubbers on the bumpers. Z432-R has a different rear view mirror,it does not have day/night mode. See the 3rd picture from the owners manual issued NOV 1969.(actually the car in the picture is not Z432-R because you can see a dome light on the roof) Z432-R has a non-tinted front windshield , this is what one of the most rare item in Japan.(of course every little thing on Z432-R is so rare) But we can see it some good numbers in 1969 240Z. According from the parts catalog, this windshield is 72631-E4600. Yes, this E4600 is basically for export model. Same thing on the fuel door knob, in Japan we do not see it many because it is for Z432-R. The part number is 84360-E4602( 1969 Z-432R must have E4600/E4601 ) kats

Mike, Good point, you are referring about Fairlady-Z432, ZL and Z. ZL and Z432 are having some featuring as standard while Z is not. Hi Chris, thanks! May I confirm her majesty has a fuel door which does have long vertical plate on the back of the door? Fairlady-Z has rubber mats for floors, side frames under the doors are covered by vinyl while ZL and Z432 have carpet on that. Also it has a big knob for seat back which is adjustable 5 degrees forward/ 5 degrees backward while ZL and Z432 have reclining mechanism. And non-defogger rear glass(but Fairlady Zs are all tinted glass except Z432-R,Z432-R has Plexiglas) These featuring are seen in an early HLS30U, so we can expect same thing on the fuel door... I made a call Mr.Watanabe (PS30-00063 12/69) and he said his 12/69 Z432 has the spring on the fuel door.He guesses Fairlady Zs have a key cylinder for the door (but Z432-R has a knob like an early export 240Z), so the door is little bit heavier than the knob type. The door has to keep opened position without support, this could be the reason of applying the spring. But I still have to ask Z432-R and early Fairlady-Z owner about spring, to clear our question which is what makes it has spring due to a key cylinder or car model grade. kats PS:attached picture is from an owners manual of Fairlady Z series issued NOV 1969.

Thank you Mike, Now I have got you, I thought very early like yours and Chris's car do not have the long vertical plate on the back, but they have it, right? The test cars must be HLS30-00004 and 00005, I guess after these cars got the change. My 01/70 Z432 and 03/70 240Z both have the spring and the ordinaly fuel door. kats

Hello, I do not think many people out side Japan would be interested in this, but I would like to share this,PS30-00011 is still owned by an gentleman since 1978. Recently I managed to obtain the registration data at 1978 from a Z fanatic,I was surprised that PS30-00011 was sold and registered. A few days ago my friend has got an e-mail from the current owner, the owner is exactly the same man whos name was in the list at 1978. The owner told my friend the 00011 has been garaged and disassembled to restore, but still needs lots of time to complete. I am curious which car was assembled earlier between PS30-00011 and S30-00011 and HLS30-00011 and HS30-00011. kats

Hi, I did not know about the spring and no-spring door hinge. Only I have been interested in at very early car's door has no extra plate, while other cars have rectangular extra plate to attach the hinge. See the attached pictures, one is from a R&T Jan 1970,the other from How to restore your Datsun 240Z ,Wick Humble. And I review old film from the test drive in the U.S and CANADA in late 1969,http://www.geocities.jp/datsunz903/films.html Open the link and click 5th from the top "On the highway" at the gas station the man closing the fuel door, and the fuel door was acting as "no-spring" , what do you think of it? kats
-
Thank you Mike, Jim Oh my, that attached error tells us "you can see it only in Japan" ..... This site has a lots of old car's film , "11PM" was introducing some nice cars from late 60s and 70s in Japan.Toyota 2000GT, skyline, Mitsubishi GTO, e.t.c. and some import cars. I have to find some good way to show all of you outside Japan... kats
-
Hi Carl, I hope you can see it, the link directs you viewing immediately. Or regional matter? Thank you purplemonkey, you were able to see it, were not you? Both of you are in Florida, how about other regions? kats

Hi, Have you watched these already? http://www.dai2ntv.jp/player/index.html?item_id=NtvI00007911 http://www.dai2ntv.jp/player/index.html?item_id=NtvI00013902 http://www.dai2ntv.jp/player/index.html?item_id=NtvI00013903 My friend told me this web site, some nice old TV show "11PM" which every young people watched in Japan. I think this 240ZG in this film has just made a debut to the public ,this part was titled "CAR GUIDANCE" might be around late 1971.You can see fresh 175HR14 too. Also the Safari winner car,I can not believe Nissan let them drove that important car!The car might be soon returned from the rally. kats

Hi Alan, I remember you have driven the car,was it 2001? That year I met you in Fuji speedway that is why I remember. I sent an e-mail to you,I hope volcanic ash clear up soon and I can fly to LHR. kats

I am so exhausted,I put all the chassis number on the map. Hello xs10shl, Do you find your number? I think so too, and I think japanese people do not have enough space to park multiple cars especially in a big sity.Expensive taxes may effect too, and moisture. We can not expect a lot of survivers in Japan. But 100 Z432s out of some 400 production,it is a quite good number than other old cars is not it? Hi Chris, thank you and how are you doing and your cars? kats
-
Thank you esprist, I have not flown to L.A. recently, but maybe in May or June. Could you hold the wonderful hoses for me? esprist, now there is a good daily driver Z432 is on sale for JPY 7,875,000 This car used to belong to a chairman of CLUB S30. What do you think of this car? http://www.flexnet.co.jp/detail/kn/3453546799/ 342 Z432s in 1978, how about now? My friend Mr.Watanabe have been tracking down existing Z432 in his web, he have found currently 100 Z432s are registered in Japan. However it may contain slightly old info,I know one of them is now in California and I have heard the other was purchased by Australian gentleman. kats

Hello, for someone interested Z432/Z432-R, I recently have got the very interesting data seat from a gentleman. This gentleman was given this data by someone in 10 years ago.He said the man who gave this data was a serious fanatic of Z432/Z432-R. The paper listed all of the owner of Z432 including Z432-R in Japan. This paper has date 24th APR 1978 must be printed out/prepared by employee of Nissan dealer somewhere in Japan. Japan has 47 prefecutres, this data shows each prefecture's owners detail. I can not show them directly here because I am told not to do so by the gentleman. The listing shows owners name, adress, chassis number, registration date, expire date, etc.etc. Anyway they are old data, it was AT 1978...but what a wonderful thing is there was at least one fanatic there, and he did try to search every single Z432/Z432R for his dream. Please see the attached picture,I tried to show the data by my hand. kats
