Thank you very much Chris, Yes I forgot mentioning about blank plate(grommet) for the defroster and the parking light. Thank you Her majesty 27th,yours finisher is the best to describe. And still it is clean shape:classic: The grommet for the defroster (86722-E4100) The grommet for the parking light(86721-E4600) E4100 is oriented for S30s(Japanese) , E4600 is for HLS30s, from this point of view, there would not have been any provision for parking light for HLS30s? A Nov 1969 HLS30 parts catalog has a mistake , it is numbering opposite each other. We can see many of mistakes like this, choke knob and throttle knob are also numbered opposite. While a Japanese parts catalog is showing correctly for the grommet for the defroster. I am excited about seeing 27th has a blank mask for the throttle lever. When it was attached? At a factory in Japan? At a dealer in America? 27th is a extremely low VIN car but it does have it!! A 1970 U.S.240Z brochure has a picture of a finisher,we can see no-mask for the throttle.Just no-lever, no-knob and there is a slot. So, only like these brochure cars(00006/7/8 according Carl mentioned) do not have a mask? Very interesting, thank you. kats

Hi, I am trying to organize the pictures of the choke/throttle items. So far we have got many good pictures from owners here, they are very good ones as good references. Please refer this page also, http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29554&highlight=hand+throttle Here they are, #1 A choke/throttle mechanism which has two same length of slots for levers. and it has a Bakelite sandwich plate for traveling the throttle lever. I think this is the earliest. (240znz's 12/70 HS30,18410-E4101-02? kats's 01/70 PS30,18410-E4201-02?) (PS30 has only one choke cable for the 3 MIKUNIs!!) #2 And I think this mechanism is also used for the earliest HLS30? Not only a very few of HLS30s which have the throttle lever, also early HLS30s which were taken the throttle lever by the dealer. (for HLS30 18410-E4401) #3 Later, a shorter slot for the throttle lever applied. This mechanism has different lever basement for the throttle. HLS30 cars for the U.S. and some other areas do not even have the throttle lever from the beginning. This is true for Automatic transmission too. (for S30/HS30 18410-E4103-04? for PS30 18410-E4203-04?) (for HLS30 18410-E4502,E4601) (for Automatic S30/HS30/HLS30 18410-E4502) (there is a part number for Automatic 18410-E4501 from Nov 1969 anyway) #4 A floor console finisher which has only a symbol of a defroster :angry:And a symbol of a pair of lights :bulb: :bulb: There are no "ON" for the defroster/lights. Both symbols are painted white for S30/PS30 while only for the defroster for HS30/HLS30 Also this finisher has two same length of slots for levers just like the earliest lever mechanism corresponding. (for S30/PS30 86720-E4100 , for HS30/HLS30 86720-E4600) (This part does not have any superseded part number) #4 Not for sure of biginning date, at some point, there is a "mask" for hiding the blank throttle lever added for HS30/HLS30(manual) , S30/HS30/HLS30(auto) (86728-E4700) #5 Later, there are letter "ON" for the defroster and lights. "ON" is painted white only for the defroster is for HS30/HLS30 while all the three "ON" are painted for S30/PS30. #6 Later, a shorter slot for the throttle lever applied on this finisher just like the later lever mechanism.Of course this finisher has a letter "ON" below the defroster/lights symbols and painting variation is the same described above. kats PS : Thank you 240znz, Marty Rogan, WindyCityZnut, Mr.Ataka, and Mr.Jeff Joyner for all the pictures which are used in this post.I am sorry for this using before obtaining the permission.

Hi, geezer, stay tune:classic: I will do one at a time , it is a bit expensive for me. Carl, thank you for the recall. And the car in the slide could be HLS30-00003,now I think so too. HLS30-00001 and 00002 would have been crashed or cut into pieces Alan, I agreed what you suggested. Thank you as always, please jump in anytime and share your knowledge with us :classic: kats

Hi Gab, Thank you for your sharing the story for us.I enjoyed reading all. I hope you keep all the old/original parts which are pulled during the restoration in your boxes.Even they are dirty, they are treasure for you. If the old harnesses are still remaining date tags, it will be great references. If your car would have stuck at a final inspection, the car could have been installed all the unique earliest parts. On the other hand, if the car would have stuck at somewhere in the middle of assembly line, let's say at an engine installing section in Oct 1969,the car could have mixed parts.Early engine associated with early engine room parts could have been combined Feb 1970 parts such as an steering horn basement dated " 45 2 ## (1970 Feb ##)", non-red dot mirror, white Z emblems, fuel door knob locked at east-west e.t.c. However those are all my guesswork. Generally speaking, when instruments/interior items are placed? How about emblems? Can anyone give me a good explanation? And unusual engine number with chassis number, there is a good example in Japan. Mr.Yoshida's Z432 is PS30-00347 (12/70) and has S20-000074!! My Z432 is PS30-00088(01/70) and has S20-000884. Z432 shared S20 with Skyline GTR, however 000074 is extremely unusual even his car is later than mine. I think if PS30-00001 could have got S20-000600 to 000700 range is natural. Until the end of Oct 1969, 58 240Zs(HS30 and HLS30) were made.It depends on how many HS30s were made in that period, anyway HLS30-00048 would have began its road trip on the assembly line in Oct 1969 or early Nov 1969. How about my guesswork? kats

Hi, Recently I was told an interesting story from my friend,Mr.Yoshida who owns 12/70 Z432 (PS30-00347).He said he bought his Z432 in Sep 1972 from a used car shop(He saw a Skyline GTR too,but the Z won!). He said he is very sure that the Z432 has got squared knobs already when he saw the car at the shop. He has been a owner of the car since then, he just replaced a choke knob to a new one(squared type) once around 1995.He still has the broken choke knob, that is a squared type. And of course, the throttle knob is squared type and has never been replaced after he bought the car. So, we found a fact that the squared type exist in 1972 already, this is great. Maybe Nissan started production of squared knob from around 1972 for 69-71 model while a new console was already equipped in the assembly line. Nissan would have stored two types of knobs , rounded and squared choke/throttle knobs in their parts department at least mid 1980 or so. And my guesswork is like this, Mr.Yoshida saw the Z432 at the shop in Sep 1972, just before he saw the car ,the car 's choke or throttle knob would have been broken. The broken knob(s) should have been rounded type as a 12/70 car. The used car shop would have had to make it better look console, they would have replaced to new one(s). I think a choke knob is usually easy to brake from daily operation. The original choke knob could have been broken, I guess. The shop would have ordered the choke knob and expected rounded type, but they would have get squared type knob. Then they would have to buy a squared type throttle knob to much the new squared choke knob. kats

Hi Unkle, I was wondering too, Grey plastic parts and a red dot mirror. But if this car has originally Black plastic parts and other later parts, can we guess when those parts were installed. geezer's post inspired me to have fun to imagine. I noticed the hood corner bumper, they are not the earliest one.I do not know the owner put later one instead of the earliest one, but if they are originally with the car, it is very fun to guess the sequence of assembling parts. #48 , L24-2398 with 02/70 date tag.I think this car could be a good example to think about what and when these parts would have been installed. And what happened, when it happened , all I can do is just "imagine" . kats

Thank you Mike , Arne I think I got the answer from both of you, the best combination example owners and I was expected this result. Yes the two left pictures are the original of my 03/70 240Z. So, like other parts, the first one is something "not sophisticated" , " cost more" parts. At least 03/70 cars have early one, I would like to have more reports about this to find out when the border line is ? Thank you, kats

You are not interested in my 240Z, because of high VIN number and not original paint...I know, I know. just kidding. kats

Hi, I have just one question, I had two early tail gate trim panels(including the one came with my 240Z), and found they are slightly different finishing touch around air vent area. I am sure my 240Z's panel is the original, came with the car from the factory. This trim panel has a small black panel with air vent holes attached to the panel body. I have bought an early trim panel from the U.S. some years ago, this panel does not have a small black panel, just air vent holes are placed on the basement. Is this non-small black panel one earlier than my 03/70 240Z? If some one can check this , please let me know. kats

Thank you,Chris You gave me a new interesting point of view. Racing green, you are probably right, it looks darker color more than red. About the aircleaner, light blue can be seen at Z432 also. Here is pictures from recently sold on Yahoo. kats

Thank you Mike, Now I am looking at them:classic: kats

Mike, I really want to see pictures. If I have lots of money,I definitly buy this car and your #32.The asking price is so attractive as a low VIN and restored car. Does the bumper has one bolt on each side and bumper bracket is an earlier one? Are the glasses all clear , not tinted ? Looks like Canada car, non-air pump, non-fuel vaper tank, japanese gas tank (non-return fuel line) ? kats

Hi, Mr.Matsuo gave me a set of his NOS hubcaps 4 or 5 years ago.He told me that he wanted to buy a S30 as soon as possible for his personal car but at that time he was not allowed to do.I guess Nissan wanted every single S30 car to be delivered to the public. In late 1970 Mr.Matsuo was able to buy his own S30, that was a Fairlady-Z (S30-S, the most simple/basic model). That car does not come with a radio/hub caps/carpet/e.t.c. His choice was very interesting for me, he bought a set of hubcaps/fog lamps/e.t.c. separately from the dealer. He also told me S30-S does not have a radio as you know, it was a good for him.He tried some various kinds of radio/cassette in his car.He said he wanted to do that. Anyway, the hubcaps which I have got, they are big tabs and "103 IKI" on them, all the four caps are the same. I think as a supplied part from the parts center, it has "103" or so? And I can not remember correctly I used to owned a set of hubcaps, they have "45(5) 3 27" I thought it means 1970 march 27th". kats

Thank you everyone, Zealous, yes it was a month ago.I flew to L.A. this week and I had arranged with the seller living in Long beach to meet at my hotel. He told me he was a mechanic and he trained young guys back in 1960's to 1970's.He is a great gentleman. Mike, yes I think the air cleaner is light blue I think I posted before a much clearer picture of this cleaner. The nut is unusual and fuel pipes and hoses are different. Carl, you are right this slide car has an Emission control system. I want to know what number does this car have? As Alan pointed out, I tend to think HLS30-00001 may be euro. This slide car has an Emmision, so must not be HLS30-00001. I am confusing, please see these two pictures,a red car from Nissan official site and a mono tone car from the pres kit. They are the same I think. But I noticed some thing different from the slide car. The slide car does have a O.K. sticker and the "D" emblem on the hubcap. On the other hand, the red car does not have either. So, they are different car? They are not HLS30-00001 ? Carl, did you say the red car is HLS30-00006/7/8? kats

Hi Alan, thank you for the explaining details,I learned why the ribs disappeared. Here is a spoiler now on sale Yahoo auction. http://page18.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/w30694693 This is a real OEM with no-ribs version. We can confirm it is an OEM when look at inside of the spoiler. The stud bolts finishing and reinforcements are the sign of the OEM. My 1970 Z432 should have a spoiler with ribs version, but now installed an OEM with no-ribs version. kats

Hi, I have got a set of service slide film from Ebay. 7 reals, lots of pictures in there at this time only one real is opened so far. I revice my website, http://www.geocities.jp/datsunz903/ Alan, your posts make me think HLS30-00001 is euro version , this film showing the car which is also used in service manuals, this car does not have an antenna. Is this a good sign of being euro is not it?This car must be the same the red one, used some other catalogs and manuals. Not for sure the VIN but must be very very early. kats

Hi , moonpup, Dan answered , yes it was available separately. Here is a good example, sold in Yahoo Japan "1973 240Z exaust system" http://page2.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/b92195513 You can see this original style finisher, and Dan mentioned the front pipe, this auction's pipe is later than my 1970 240Z i.e. the junction two into one is different from my 240Z.This picture's one , the single pipe is just attached the another pipe. We can see when details has changed can not we? My muffler has just cheap paint.I bought a can spray at a car shop,so I paint but it gets rust, then paint again.I have been repeating this! Believe or not,my Z432 is sitting outside everyday with a motorsport auto car-cover.Z432's muffler already gets some rust. And dirty:ermm: Here is just my thoughts about a gold medallion, it is getting harder and harder to get it because we find a new everyday and we have been learning more and more than used to.Looking back 10 years ago, we did not have to so picky like today did we? Of cource cleaness is the most important, it has not changed at all from the biggining.I am talking about "is this part exactly correct for this car " things. Not easy to say, Chris:classic: if two cars are competing with same points, then judges going to look into details, like "is this metal emblem?" " what is under the carpet?" e.t.c. kats PS; My 240Z's muffler is not exactly the early one. It is a combination of a later "short finsher muffler" and a early long finisher. Took away the short finisher then welded a pice of exaust pipe of the muffler approx. one inch long to extend the pipe to be much the long finisher. You can not tell the difference unless you look under the muffler it says 20100-N3300:D

Hi moonpup, I think NOS parts never hurts your score for getting the medallion unless you put extremely different years parts. I put a correct bumper , and a muffler finisher for my 240Z. I attached pictures with some text, you will see many of bumpers and finisher which are (were) currently available for us is later type. About the bumper, the side bumper does not have a small cut away when it was new from the factory. And the finisher,it was a long type when it left from the factory. But it does not matter,if the parts is NOS and even black, no problem as long as it is clean.I think this is true for the gold medallion. kats

Great info Alan! S20 has silver on the block,is this mean this engine comes from Prince not from Nissan? However my Z432 has Volks Wargen black on the block this is a strong policy of the restorer. kats

Hi, I just stop to see here, we in Japan Nissan diesel (ND;a groupe of Nissan making tracks) is selling engine blue which is applying many Nissan engines. My L24 was painted with this blue needed 1 or 2 spray- cans. kats

Hello Filipe,I sent a PM to you Hello Mike, When you sell 1969 fuel door knob, please let me know! And the auction, Japanese people (me too) have just no idea to deal with people world-wide.Yes we know everybody around the world can view Japanese web auction, but hardly ever think to sell/ship abroad. One biggest matter is Communication/Language "English" I think. In my case,I have an U.S. 240Z so I need to buy parts from the U.S. or other countries.I need to get used to Ebay and Paypal. But my friends, they do not buy parts from other countries.Just do not need to ? I have been introducing Ebay to my friends but no one seems to give it a try. kats

This is not listed on the auction yet, but I am thinking. The hand throttle knobs and the mechanism. This mechanism is very old/used from Japanese Z but function-able without problems. Please see the picture, the right side steel lever(for the throttle) had cut away little bit from the top.I do not know why. What were the P.O. trying to do for it??? However installing the throttle knob is no-problem. And the plastic grommet, this is a decent shape, not perfect but still usable. There are two type of knobs are available, NOS early round knobs and NOS later square knobs. I am thinking about Ebay too:rambo: kats

Following items are now on sale, #1 fuse cover NOS and USD /start $10 #2 tail gate outer rubber NOS and USD with master back hose /start $10 #3 voltage regulator cover and spare tire clamp /start $10 #4 USD head light cover with NOS chrome trim ring /start $85 You can look at, http://openuser.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/user/datsunz903 I think the head light cover will be the most curious thing for most of you, let's see how it goes. All these items will end Friday night 26th Sep. For more details of the head light cover, here is a link http://www.geocities.jp/datsunz903/headlightcover.html Plastic lens was dirty and had many scratches,I cleaned them really hard. Now Looks O.K. but still some very small visible scratches. Chrome trim ring is NOS, but not so good shape. There are some really small gaps between ring and light case.I do not why.I have another set ring they are perfect and kept for my Z432. However as you can see it in the picture, they are nice as a cheap auction item! I am not trying to advertised these here,I do not accept/expect bidding from outside of Japan. Just want to show what is happening on Zcar community in Japan. kats

Mr.Matsuo wanted to put the cover as a standard,he is still quite often saying about that. That must be his regret. Also the grill,he wanted it goes down until the bottom, but it has got itself cut half.Everything is due cost... I have used covers,I tried mount them in test.Just rely on the lamp case,it scared me almost fallen off!! I love both style. But the plastic clear lens must be clean a lot more.If the repro's lens has just same shape as original,I want to buy. Please note the curve/shape of the original cover. kats
