Thank you Tourniqet and billramsey2002, I still need a teacher for my kids,if you and anybody in this club trip to japan, please let me know and visit my small home. I have revised my web page, added D.I.Y. for small things. Please take a look. http://www.geocities.jp/datsunz240zsports/index.html Thank you mdbrandy and 26th-Z, I got it,"fake" yes I understand. My english-japanese dictionary lists"faux naif".... I will start a new thread for my D.I.Y at the shop near my home.Stay tune. Thank you kats

Hi TomoHawk, I looked up my dictionary but I could not find the right meaning of the word "faux". I still do not know about "faux braided" hoses. Does it look like "Earls" hoses? kats

Joseph, I knew what you said, please do not worry. I think it is Just a matter of my english skill! If I speak much better,I would not let you feel so. Stickers of my engineroom I think they are came from U.S. nissan when they did for "vintage Z project" I do not know because "Tetsu"(restorer) did it already when I saw my completed 240Z. Yesterday,I cleaned eraly fuel clamps at my home. I bought them from ebay last month, the seller and I met at Lasvegas in 2000 convention. kats

Hi Joseph, You have good eyes!!Even I did not realize that chipping until you told me.I have to paint it tomorrow. I do not see many wrecking yards here,I envy you.It is unbelievable you can get those rare clamps even they are mint condition. When I was living in Bakersfield C.A. I used to go shopping 2 or 3 wrecking yards for my 1972 240Z.They were near my dormitry. That is still my good memories.Every week end I drove my Z some times headed to L.A. and go to orange county for the Mortorsportauto. kats

Thank you Marty and 26th-Z again, My Z is not perfect but I am enjoying to replace small things because it is easy to do.It is very fun to find something which I can do by myself also it is very worthy that without paying lots of money. I might be saying too much about stock competition,I think both of you are right that judges will not see the inside of lighting system. If they does,it is too much! Why I asked this was I felt the stock competition of the national convention was very precise in details and very well organized. Not only judges but also people who owned Z car have a lot of knowledge and passion for the Z like all of you here. In japan, there are no place to be judged for it's stock condition. We have many Z meetings in every year at many places,we can see lots of Zs each other and it is very fun. But people in japan do not think about stock competition seriously. For the Z,I do not think there are any well organized stock competitions in japan. kats

Thank you Marty and 26th-Z, KOITO is selling variable watts and volts bulbs. This time my Z's rear right side marker was out,I bought this for it. I saw many bulbs in the shop for example the one may be applied for a glove box light. Have you been to Tokyo? If you go to Shinagawa station, you can see the building showing a big neon bord "KOITO" on the top. BTW,are judges of stock competition check inside tail/side marker lights?I may want to show that I put KOITO bulbs for all lighting system.Because I lose many points of exterior/interior,I want to gain points and minimize losing points as much as I can. I drive my Z quite offten since the restoration completed Apr 2000.Now many bolts and washers are losing their plated espesially underneith of the body. I need to work lots of things aiming for competition. kats

Thank you Guus, I have naver made a round top with a jet.Only when I was a trainee, there were 2 days "recovery from unusual attitude" I was shick. And a very cool rally 240Z you have!! BTW,the wire hose clamp is made of single wire. The early one needs much longer wire because of it's shape. It looks like a lane of a jet corster. kats

Hi, My 240Z is now in a local nissan dealer hangar. The owner run the shop by himself and his family. He usealy sells new nissan cars and does maintenace/some major and minor works for cars. Also he is restoring SRL311 for his hobby.Oneday I saw the SRL311 through the small showroom on the way home,I made a stop to talk to him and I decided to ask him detailing of my 240Z. I show the photo of a hose clamp, this was used for the vacum hose showing in the earliest service manual. kats

Hi John, Yes you are right,I checked my square knob has a hole for a screw at outside. My rounded throttle knob was a present from Mr.Len Welch in the U.K. well known as an owner of a 1971 beautiful green 240Z. I was looking for it in japan, but I could not find in japan. kats
-
Hi everybody, I just want to know that you can buy KOITO bulbs at an auto goods shop? In japan I can buy KOITO bulbs at the shop.Very cheap for my aiming"stock condition" just kidding.... kats

Hi,yes that is me. I was surposed to bid for this too, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&category=33643&item=2468143156&sspagename=STRK%3AMEBWA%3AIT This is a chrome "Z" verision. And to see the back,it is very unusual solid casting. My chrome"Z" version wing badge has normal forming on back, digged for light weight. It is same as a white inlay"Z" version. I remenber when Mr.MATSUO showed me a prototype emblem for S30,it was a very thick and solid casting without any digged for light weight. So this auction item is a real early emblem must be some around Sep or Oct made I guess. I learned there are 3 type of metal emblems. #1 earliest metal emblem chrome "Z" with solid back #2 earliest metal emblem chrome "Z" with light weight back #3 metal emblem white inlay "Z" with light weight back I really wanted to bid for this, and I would shoot my best just before the end of auction this is my strategy.BUT I forgot it!! Today here in japan was a nice sunny day, warm and clear sky.I got up late 9:30 am and checked the ebay,"....The item will end after 2 and a half hour.O.K,I can go to a barber...." When the barber was shaving my face,I found I was surposed to bid.I asked him "What time is it now???" kats

Hi, I would like to join and add little more. This fairlady-ZL was made in 1970.Please refer this, http://www.ne.jp/asahi/club/s30/nl11/NL11-P20.jpg And I posted once in this thread, http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7801&perpage=15&highlight=kats&pagenumber=4 For 1969,the factory data from NISSAN SHATAI indicates 969 japanese S30s(includes all japanese model) were made. It is interesting,Dec 1969,export model(HLS30 and HS30)was not big number. You probably know there are so few Dec 1969 made 240Z to compare Nov 1969 made 240Z. For domestic,Dec 1969,nearly 900 S30s were made.It is interesting. Nissan had to slow down producing 240Z late 1969 because they got problem reports from the test crew in the U.S. about huge road noise and too much steering kick back and vibration from the rear axle.Tokyo head office did not think about seriousely first, but U.S. nissan did not accept those problems. (I think these problems are not serious problem.I think these are lovely early 240Z's featuring) Because of that, many 1969 240Zs were held at nissan factory until problems were cured. Late Dec 1969,the refined 240Z(I do not know only one Z or more)arrived at nissan gardena carifornia by air. U.S. nissan accept refined 240Z,then 1969 240Zs were exported. I guess 1969 240Zs were not "refined" version.Because they were already made, they did not have time to replace so many parts for refinement. Always I think my mar/1970 240Z got insurator on the rear deck compertment. But 1969 240Zs do not have it,we can see the 12 holes on the rear deck. The insurator was the featuring for "sound deadning" according to U.S. nissan's claim of the road test in the late 1969. Sorry for this "off-route". kats
-
Thank you very much all of you. Now I am clear.Every time I saw on my deck, I felt something uneasy. I will tell you when I finsh the work. Thank you, kats
-
Hell, I found my 240Z's rear deck harness is something funny. For the gas tank wires, which hole does it go into? I think my 240Z is probably wrong. The harness should take another hole next to the previous one. Please let me know which hole your Z takes? kats

I would like to tell you a interesting old story in japan. My friend Dr.SUZUKI(he owns a fairlady-Z since late 1971,his car posted in gallery by Alan T.)told me that back in 1970's policemen were very strict about modified car. When they saw the modified car, they immediately stop the car, then proceed to the inspection. Not only flared fenders but also custom emblems were strictly prohibited.Engine modds were needless to say, neither solex carbs nor dual exaust tubes were allowed. However, many young owners tried to make their car something special. Once Dr.SUZUKI found tere is a export model S30,and it has DATSUN emblem which never seen in japan. He fallen in love the emblem,he called local nissan to buy the emblem. But nissan dealer did not accept his request.Nissan said to him"you do not need them, right?your Z is right-hand drive!" Nissan did not want to sell export parts to domestic owner. Because they also knew policemen were very strict about modified car. Dr.SUZUKI now have got replaced all emblems to DATSUN on his fairlady-Z. P.S. This photo shows the comparison of chrome Z and white Z. Right;chrome Z, Left;white Z.The chrome Z is thicker than white Z. Also you can see the difference in the depth of cavity. kats

After washing.Looks fine but some chipings in mat-black paint. And a few rust spots on chrome surface. kats

Hi 2ManyZs, It is wonderful that metal emblems were available from MSA. Also in japan, some fairlady Z metal emblems were available from local Nissan a few years ago. My friend in japan gave me a set of quater metal emblem "white Z" 3 years ago, they were needless for him because his Z is a fairlady-ZL.Emblems were NOS,I do not know why he got them ,just curious? This photo shows crome Z emblem before cleaning. kats
