Hi , tomorrow BH AUCTION at Terada factory will open , let’s see how does the Z432-R do in there .https://bhauction.com/auction/tokyo-terrada-january/lots/ The Yesterday, Mr. Watanabe ‘s GTR went for 29 million JPY . I just don’t know how many people will be interested in the Z432-R . Kats

Hi Gavin , thanks for asking me, that is a good question. I have done so many times removing the plastic panel. I always disassemble the hatch dumper at the quarter panel first . Pleas make sure you need a support to stay open the hatch , usually I put the end of the dumper on the tail light upper balance left corner with a thick towel , be careful not to bump or hit the dumper unintentionally otherwise you will get the hatch falling down on your head ! ) . The key is you disassemble the J shape bracket from the quarter panel as you will have a least obstruct for removing the plastic panel. Then No technical specialities, just slide the panel toward you really carefully. And don’t do the work when you in a cold winter , do it in summer , now you are in a perfect season to do that ! I have heard unusual heat and fire in Australia, hope it will be calmed down soon , take care . Kats

Hi Blue , my 44mm has 34 choke , it is just right for the carb , racing use . I believe U20 race option was 50mm , one cylinder is approximately 500 cc , so it is suitable, isn’t it ? Kats
-
Merry Christmas ! I will stay “ stock “ on my Z432 , make a racing engine using the spare engine. Blue , I like 40’s too ! Kats

Hi Gavin , I have heard of the issue from the seller , yes the material of the metal is the cause of imperfections of type 2 . It was made of Zinc and it is easy to twist or bend its flange if there is enough heat or if tightening torque of the securing nuts is too much . About heat , S20 has cross flow configuration , so the impact of the heat is not so serious than that of Lseries , U20 or other turn flow engine . And it is heavier than aluminum. Racing model 50 and later type 3 changed their body to aluminum . Molding technology had improved , cost matter might be acceptable for Mikuni . The seller said U20 and S20 race option are different in fueling system ,some tiny holes are specifically made for each models. U20 44’s has bigger idle port to help street ability four cylinder , 2 litter engine. S20 race option 44’s was designed for more racing use , those tiny holes don’t think about below 3000 rpm . What am I going to do with 8L camshafts? Definitely not street use ! Kats Here are some shots with type 3 , 40 mm .

SOLEX 44 TYPE 2 , arrived , I am so happy about this set . Jet setting is like this , Main 160 / Air. 200 / pilot 60 / pump 30 . Going to be coupled with Option “ 8L “ camshafts 300 degrees , valve lift 10mm . Also race piston compression ratio 10-11 . I am thinking using these optional parts into my spare S20 , but sometimes I tend to think the other way , going to put these into my Z432’s engine. If I do that , it would not be easy work for me getting it back to normal. Modified car’s value is lowered in most case , will it be applicable to my Z432 if I put these options into its engine ? To Use genuine optional parts , does it make any difference ? ( I would think it would have not hurt it’s value if my Z432 would have installed genuine optional parts at the dealer before the delivery in 1970 , and well documented about those extra ) Kats

Hi , here is another choice of those hoses , I made them from the fuel hose 17239-E4600 . This hose is still available from local Nissan 1500 yen (13 USD ) , my friend bought it last week in Japan . I did this work in 2008 , pretty much satisfied with the results. And functioning perfectly still now , my blue 240Z and Z432 had got these hoses installed and no problems. Kats ,

Blue , we are learning every day! About the not pointy hood , I remember Mr. Tamura and Mr. Yoshida told me that they were trying to shape the hood front edge not pointy . Mr. Tamura did free hand drawings for me at the dinner table , he explained how they wanted to be the headlight case . You see “ r 5 “ next to the head light case . To match the case , Mr. Tamura and Mr. Yoshida were making the head light cover trim ring as “ not pointy “ . Personally , I am a big fan of its sharp edge of the case . Early original is the sharpest due to aging I think , later metal case is never be that sharp on top of the edge . Here is the reference thread which contains the report of a dinner with Mr . Tamura and Mr . Yoshida . Kats

Yes , we need to ask him to talk about all the things when he was in a team . I also want to have an opportunity to see Mr. Takei the chief of the Euro S30 team . I found this car has the rear bumper overrider which Mr. Tamura originally intended for , but as you see in his drawings , this car’s overrider is not as cool as Mr.Tamura ‘s design. Also Mr. Tamura intended to put a rubber strip for center part of the bumper front and rear , can we see it in this silver car ? Kats
-
Hi Blue , the silver test car is a unique ! Do you remember I introduced Mr. Miyazaki who was a member of Euro S30 test team ? He said the man who was behind the wheel was him . I don’t know about the roll bar , it appeared different from the production model . I have this video’s DVD , it came as a bonus who bought the 1/8 Fairlady 240Z model . And the 100 books are also the most valuable part of this model . I actually don’t need the model , I wanted the DVD and the books . Kats

Hi Blue , I added notes , I hope you get it . This data must be a " typical " for works rally cars, each car has each set up I think . Kats
-
Hi everyone, thanks so much for your inputs .Those inputs make this thread attractive so much . I really appreciate it , as usual . Recently I have been writing about various kinds of cars , today I am back on route , Datsun 240Z vs Fairlady Z432 . I want to say , both are great great cars , each cars has each fantastic things . About their engines , here are some comparisons . ” Stock specification “ L24 150 ps , 21kgm / S20 160 ps , 19 kgm ” L24 Racing specification “ 200 ps , 24.5 kgm (71 Monte / Safari ) 250 ps , 25.5 kgm (73 RAC , 2498 cc ) “ S20 Racing specification “ 200 ps , ( 69 JAF Grand Prix ) GTR 253 ps , 21.9 kgm ( 71 mid ) GTR 265 ps , ( 72 Fuji Masters ) GTR Wonderful engines they are , Nissan is not a manufacture like Ferrari or Porsche, but I think Nissan did great ! An interesting interview of Nissan works rally team manager Mr. Namba and Mr . Wakabayashi after winning of 1971 Safari rally he said “ we dropped its engine power like a normal car , range 2000-6500 rpm , compression ratio 8.0 ( usually 9.5 for racing) . We assumed average octan 93 , field elevation 0-3200 meters for the race. High-tuned engine is not good for this race , we used standard head gasket , we shaped inside of dome . Also carburetor setup is the key , this rally has various field elevations from zero to 3200 meters , that made us feel challenging. With the assumed octan 93 , we finally settled down setting them at 1800 meters , that was Nairobi “ ... I am so amazed by reading this interview, what a fascinating they were ! And a clever thing is , they filled up their 510 rally cars with six different kinds of fuel before sending back them to Japan ( maybe this was common for rally team ? ) after winning of the 1970 Safari rally. They thought quality of gas was not the same , they needed to know what was the average quality so that making trouble free engine . They analyzed and tested those fuel , then they had got the plan for the 1971 Safari rally. Also an interesting interview for the three ex Prince Murayama engineers is so much fun to read , they did so hard on their racing S20 engine . I will write about it later . • Citation Nissan graph June 1971 DATSUN 510 & 240Z ( Grand Prix Shuppan ) SKYLINE 2000 GTR MEMORIAL ( Yaesu Shuppan ) Kats

Wow Gavin, more pictures please ! Blue interior, RHD , automatic transmission, this car has the rarest combination . I really love the blue interior . And an automatic transmission is a trouble free ! Just needs an oil change . Kats

Thanks bartsscooterservice , that red is an early model ( 1967 - 1969 ) , bigger driving lamp , smaller rear side markers etc . For the side note , like S30 , Toyota 2000GT has two types of engine , DOHC ( 2000cc ) and SOHC (2300 cc ) . SOHC version was made only 9 cars , all of them were for export , two of them are automatic transmission. Recently the first SOHC MF12-000001 (automatic transmission) was sold for 8800 0000 yen ( 1000000 USD) . How about our S30 ? I have seen an interview for engineers of Nissan when the car was new , they said 30 % of export 240Zs are automatic transmission cars . But nowadays it is hard to see automatic transmission cars , maybe the ratio dropped below 10% now ? Kats

This interprit contains not correct part, and I see also Japanese text is not right , Mr.Fujita should select Japanese words correctly . The point is , there is no stock L24 which has better paformance than the racing S20 , Never . (We know L type engine was born from practical parents , S20 engine was born from racing parents ) . Maybe people want to disrespect S20 in some reason , but a stock L24 and a stock S20 are almost same performance. A racing L24 and a racing S20 are almost same performance. The one has more capacity , the other has more advanced technology. That's it . They both are awsome engine , just enjoy each "feelings" , "flavor" . I haven't heard from S20 owners saying "my S20 is better than the L20 , 24... , etc. Kats

Not a Z , but I would like to show this , another local Toyota 2000GT . Mr. Shimoura and me visited Mr. Minamiura to see his car , this car he bought new in 1970 at his age 22 ! He is the original owner indeed. The plate shows that this car is truly registered only once ever since , people know this car is the first registered 2000GT in Nara region. He hopes someone takes care of this car with the plate , I thought I can keep the plate but I have never imagined owning one nor falling love with one . But looking at this beauty, I gradually inclined to this one . Some pieces are resemble our S30 cars , some are completely different, it is always fun to look at it . Kats

Hi , I sold a set of S20 race piston last Sunday , and now I am selling a set of titanium conn rod . I have decided to obtain much more mint condition race pistons and titanium conn rods , selling price won’t be able to cover the new sets . That is painful but , I just go forward. I have got this plastic lunch box , I am dreaming about putting this in a engine room when I put triple Solex for my L24 . It has turned fragile , I have to reinforce the top cover from the back , and have to hand made a missing simple shape bracket to secure the inner fender . Also need to do some work for the tube ! Kats
-
Hi Blue , I am happy you use my pictures. Here are some for you , I want to explain again the difference , and interchangeability of the mechanism . Z432 ( triple carburetors) has only one cable for the choke system while L20/24 ( SU) have two cables . But you see the basement of the levers are made for both , just flip it over to accommodate Z432 or L20/24 . And some more , the earliest Z432 mechanism has a metal tube for the choke cable . Like SU type cable , Z432 has a lot of running parts change for this choke and throttle mechanism. Not only for the cable , levers were revised a several times . The earliest hand throttle lever has its pivot at the bottom of the basement while later type has the pivot in the middle.A Sliding nut guide which controls its tension is a unique for the earliest one. The earliest one has a longer slit on the top metal face plate so that the hand throttle lever can travel fully, longer . And amazingly, the small screw holes to secure the basement for the earliest one are used agin for the later hand throttle!! What a wonderful design of mechanism . Kats Sorry those pictures are not taken at one time , some of them are recently and some of them are old . I found the two pictures which showing Z432 and L20/24 in one shot made a mistake, the top metal face plates were put wrongly. The longer slit of the hand throttle should be put on the other . In this picture the L20/24 mechanism should have it as it is made as later type .

Thanks Chris, I made a video using the tool from you ! The tool works perfect to turn the chrome face nut . Gavin , I will give you this switch “ test mule “ if you need . FYI , here is the picture from the very late mock up styling study model , you see the switch has a twin triangles mark . Kats
-
Hi zKars , great great article!! I didn’t know the difference. Thank you so much!! This is what exactly I experienced in my blue 240Z , this car has a switch which I determine “ early one “by its the twin-triangle mark . And it could not accept the tool to turn the chrome nut because of its angle. I didn’t know why , but you showed us there is the one which can’t accept the tool . I tend to think the early one is always acceptable for the tool , later one is always not acceptable for the tool , but this theory is not true . My blue 240Z has got the switch from another car when it became out of service , so it could be way out of date of the car’s manufacture date (03/70) . On the other hand , my orange 12/71 240Z has the tool acceptable type switch which has a small triangle in a big triangle. This mark is later type I think . FYI , I show a comparison of a small box and a big box type . Japanese S30 uses the small box type . Maybe for euro too ? I am learning every day ! Kats

Hi Gavin , safari gold is rare I think too . They are not Auction but currently three Z432 are available here , https://www.carsensor.net/usedcar/search.php?CARC=NI_S026&AL=1&SORT=4&STID=SMPH0001 Two white ( one of them 1969 made ) , one orange. And this green car was for sale 16,500,000 Yen at カーセンサー recently. Some weeks ago it was dropped so someone bought I think . The car is a survivor, very original car . I even may want it to be as it is to enjoy its patina look . This car can be drivable easily. Kats

Caution ! PS30-00187 is not for sale . Kats
