Hi, Last week I dropped a book store, and I looked some car magazines. And I found one book showed silver Z432, well... The picture looks very old, must be taken in early 1970's.The car has an original license plate , that is 品川(Shinagawa) 51 る 28-98 . This is my Z432!! whao. Last year I went to the local vehicle bureau to get a registration data of my Z432 from the bigining. We can have it in Japan, everyone. I was surprised My Z432 was registered in 31th Mar 1970, and the first owner was not a person, Tokyo Nissan was. My Z432 must left the factory Jan 1970, so the registered little bit late. And the first owner was Nissan, these two facts means my car was used as a donor car for press(test drive) .At that time(still nowadays?) a new car must be registerd with in 6 months from the date of manufacture, so it is common the press car was registered with time delay and belongs to dealer/manufacture office. kats

Hi bpilati, Thank you for that information, I looked up my dealer list JULY 1970, but I can not find the dealer that your father bought the car.So, the dealer was brand new when you and your father visited !Please see the attached pictures. Hi Chris, and Alan Thank you for your inputs, I should ask other NISSAN/DATSUN manuals to confirm these Tenets are only for S30 or not. Alan gave a great point of view about back ground of Datsun's / Mr.K's early days.Mr.K sometimes told about the man from VW, also the man from Renault who were very important to start business with Mr.K in the U.S.A. kats

zbane, Thank you so much, that is great! I change it to "Tenets of Customer Service". This is for the first time to learn "tenet" in my life. Thank you, kats P.S. Also I put "Dealer facilities" pictures in my web site, they are very interesting for all of us I think. There are full of dreams, to start a new life with DATSUN dealership!

Hi, I posted an interesting thing of a parts catalog in my web site. You can see it here,http://www.geocities.jp/datsunz903/philo.html Some of you already knew it, the parts catalog (both USA/CANADA and RHD model) has 5 page inserts, each paper has very good instructions for mechanic/sales people of the dealership, also they are very worth to read even for us now. Is this a Mr.K's idea? How do you say in English like these words, an instruction? philosophy? policy? We, in Japan, I have never seen such a thing in the parts catalog/service manual/bulletin e.t.c. I put a title "Mr.K's philosophy" for this page, but I want to know what is a best way to describe. Any advice will be appreciated. Thank you, kats

Thank you so much Will , Zealous , Chris, I hope you can see the movie, some friends in Japan reported there are some "problem" about watching. I think it is a little bit heavy to download, is not it? kats

Hello , I am really sorry about no-update.The car is belonging to my friend who lives in Ibaragi prefecture, 100miles north of Tokyo. And the car has been sitting/sleeping the outside with a car cover, without any news. I am thinking to go there and look the car,but no time to do that. And my friend also has no time to do something for the car. Anyway I will let him know many many Z owners around the world want to know what happened to her... kats

Hello Garageqoon, sorry about no update.I have to look the car but it is located far from me.Thank you for telling me this,I will post soon.kats

Chris, yours are same as EVILC's cap. I would like to amend interpret, to be more specific Japanese, "DO NOT OPEN WHEN HOT/ アツイトキ アケルトキケン" Japanese words say "When hot, dangerous to open" "REMOVE SLOWLY/ユックリマワセ" Also Japanese words say "Turn slowly. kats
-
Hi Chris and Dan, I did not know that, various kinds of script.I thought Z432's non-push cap is same like all the others. But script is different.By the way, push cap is for the Z432 reservoir bottle. NOS cap for Z432 says "REMOVE SLOWLY/ TIGHTEN" As you can see, there is no Japanese. And I looked up and found my Z432 old cap says "DO NOT OPEN WHEN HOT/ アツイトキ アケルトキケン" Japanese words say exactly Do not open when hot. And the cap on ELVIC's car says "REMOVE SLOWLY/ユックリマワセ" Also Japanese words say exactly Remove slowly. What is saying on other car's cap? kats

Hi Alan,I flew to London and had a good time with Len, but you are in Japan.(Thank you for the Christmas card) Filipe, yours are the same about numbering of the wheels.Different numbers but same style of typing. Here is mine, please let me show all of the numbers. RMW- 221 9J RMW- 222 9J RMW- 223 9J RMW- 224 9J RMW- 225 9J Some are very hard to read, but some are easy. My method is like this, easy to read 221, 222, 225, then what else are they remaining? Then your eyes can tell step by step they are 223, 224. I am sure for this. How about " RMW " ? I guess that is "Racing Magnesium Wheel" is not it? And " 9J " is, must be OCT 1969 ( J is 10th from the beginning of the alphabet). What do you think of this? Here is a link of Mr.Watanabe he did great research of numbering of Z432 wheel. http://www.geocities.jp/ps30diy/shokai/mag.html Like Alan said, there are various styles of typing numbers. Interesting! kats

Hi, I must organize threads which are oriented from me, following post is excerpt from "Datsun 240z vs Fairlady-z432" #212 . This scan tells us very interesting informations. Each car has each place(department) to belong and has subject to be used. 1 = S30-00001 Nissan Shatai (test drive) 2 = HLS30-00001 Q21 (production factory study) 3 = PS30-00001 Nissan Shatai (test drive) 4 = HLS30-00002 Nissan Shatai (test drive) 5 = S30-00002 Nissan Shatai (test drive) 6 = PS30-00002 K11 (registration) 7 = HS30-00001 Nissan Shatai (test drive) 8 = S30-00003 K11 (registration) 9 = S30-00004 F45 (K31 spare) 10 = S30-00005 F45 (K31 spare) 11 = PS30-00003 F45 (K31 spare) 12 = HLS30-00003 E81 (service; service manual? kats) 13 = S30-00006 F45 (for press/media) 14 = PS30-00004 F45 (K31 spare) This report is dated 25th Jun 1969. kats ------------------------------------------------------------- And today I want to tell you is, we will be able to see new reports about developing S30 in early 1970 from a gentleman who was involved the test , he was a member of a groupe of aerodynamics analysis. I can not show them right now, but from what he is saying about Euro car, that is HLS30Q , Nissan was knowing Euro car needs to be more "sporty and stable in high speed driving" already. So the project "HLS30Q high speed stability development" started from Feb 1970 ended at 27th Mar 1971. And this report was made by department "K42" , now we learned K42 is a groupe of aerodynamics analysis. After this test, Euro car got front and rear spoilers and stiff springs and shocks e.t.c. To think about production volume in 1969, I think HLS30Q and HS30 were very few produced.I guess this happned because of not only Mr.Katayama wanted 240Z for his territory so strongly but also Nissan wanted to sell these(Euro) cars after the car had tested well and ready for Euro customer. Why Nissan did (could) not prepare for all the territory before biggining the production ? I think Nissan just did not have enough engineers and test crews!! kats

Congratulations Mike:classic: What a great find is, a solid metal hood emblem. You found it , we learned. O.K. sticker, I see the name Mr.T. Inoue , would he even have imagined almost after 40 years people talking about this car and still exist? Wonderful:classic: We have to think again about month & year of manufacture of HLS30 for the U.S. and Canada. This wheel and cap tell us a lot. Yes we know it is not 100% accurate. We even do not know when the tag attached on the car. We want to know details, we want to know the definition of "month" of the car which should be attached. I tend to think the tag would have been attached without careful procedure or attached very after car left from the factory, like Alan told us before. Can we trust the plate on the body panel above driver's door striker? Especially for an early car, Nissan held some good volume of HLS30s for the U.S. and Canada at port of Yokohama due to shimmy and vibration problem. Production was kicked off on Oct 1969, but many early cars were fixed (replaced) some parts before shipping for North America. I think the delivery was late not only by boat, also held at Yokohama until early(March?) 1970. kats

Hi, I show you an interesting cover, which is very similar for S30's cap. My friend has 4 of them,he said it might be used for export Skyline because it has D mark. Same as S30, in Japan we never call Z nor Skyline "DATSUN" .Interesting, The left tag has company name, "Yotsuya seizou-bu (co.,ltd)" not IKI (Ichi-koh kohgyou; Ichi-Koh Industries). By the way, the red dot mirror has name " EVER WING" on it, later on it has "IKI" took place. I do not know EVER WING is a brand name of IKI. A Post card, Mr.Matsuo sent me 6th Aug 2002, if you look carefully and can read Japanese, he said some important things... " Basically a RHD car was used for developing, notorious cost cut forced parking break remain RH side for LHD car..." " Hub cap is borrowed its design from GC10..." And an unusual picture, Fair lady-Z got D mark caps!! And valve stem position!!The back ground of this photo taken must be Nissan studio, we can see some time this white concrete back ground in some factory pictures. kats

geezer, what a great find it is, and I too, looked and found odd thing and I was going to post my finding but, you are the first. Please look this picture from NISSAN officialy provided. This red car has odd caps. And my caps given from Mr.Matsuo and Nov 1969 Tokyo motor show 240Z (Thank you Alan) has normal early caps. kats

Thank you Alan, I am always confused about the part number of the bumper, and about Rubber less bumper, I saw some have two grommets on the front, but some do not. I am confusing what is a OEM and what is a NOT OEM. Today, I renew my website again, some short videos there, I think some of you will be interested in these. http://www.geocities.jp/datsunz903/stopwatch.html Operation of the stop watch(rally clock), the throttle lever(pedal and cable), and the parking light. I intentionally pulled/pushed the throttle lever like "awkward movements" to show the plastic grommet and cable's movement. Enjoy, kats

Very nice, Mike:love: And happy birthday Mike!! kats

Thank you Bonzi Lon!! I send a mail from now:cool: kats

Good to hear from you Mark, please visit some time when you have a time. Thank you Mike, Chris, I confirmed not painted on parking lights symbol. Today I looked an old car magazine again, then I found HS30(maybe Australian 240Z) has a finisher which is painted white for both defroster and parking lights without defroster switch nor parking light switch!!(picture is not good, surely grommets there for both) As I reported while ago, the HS30 parts catalog indicates 86720-E4600 for the finisher, same as HLS30.So I thought HS30 has a finisher not painted for the parking lights. But it does,so for HS30 , 86720-E4100 was applied just like a Japanese S30 family. kats
-
Thank you Mike, but the seller's comment is not clear for me.It is very confused. I do not get it at all. Even he mentioned "HS30" ... Thank you Alan you are right, in Japan we know the 72 Z432s were produced in 1969. The clock does not look good condition, the mounting bracket is bent? But maybe restore able.Oscillator lost a small piece of metal for covering a connector. If this over $400,I would be going to think about selling my spare NOS rally clock and oscillator:ermm: Once I asked to trade my clock with an original Bridgestone superspeed radial-20/ 175 SR 14 here, nobody offered:sleep: I am still looking for an original good tire, but not going to trade with a clock forever. If the car is HLS30-00031 or PS30-00031 or HS30-00031 or S30-00031, either way that will be so wonderful anyway!! kats

Thank you Mike, and Mark , how are you doing? long time to see you again:classic: Mike, I knew that you are concerning about the painted parking lights, when I saw the picture before and I thought so too.Thank you for reporting about the plastic grommet for the end of cable, that is a good evidence.Where were those removed throttle cables sent? Just in a trash bin and burned? What a sad story:cry:How about steel wheels and hubcaps? But I am wondering could it be just a result of accumulating dusts looked painted white ? If the symbol of light is white, it would have looked more white would not? If #32 has a painted finisher, it is 86720-E4100. The difference between 86720-E4100 and 86720-E4600 is the symbol of light is painted white or not, I think. On the really early cars, it could have been happened installing mixed up E4100 and E4600.Nissan Shatai might be panic. Hi Mark, your car has a throttle lever, great:classic:
-
Chris, Can you see inside from gaps of the broken mask? I think 27th has a 18410-E4401 then removed a throttle lever! kats

Hi Arne, I do not know this can be helpful for your question,I attached the FS5C71-A of my Z432. The housing of the clutch plate area is different, but I think others are the same for L-series engines. To look carefully around shift lever basement is the good point of this transmission. I hope it helps, kats
