I found your car has a gas strut to support the rear gate. The rear gate is much lighter than the normal one, I am wondering if the strut is too strong to push the rear gate upward. Z432-R has a simple rod to support and it’s retainers are unique to the car. As Alan mentioned, a road going Z432-R has a steel rear gate with a plexiglass windshield, that is heavier than your rear gate. Interesting! Kats

Hi Chris, let’s find out! You can’t see dots around ASAHI or LAMISAFE , or TEMPERLITE, sometimes those glasses are really difficult to see the dots as if almost scratched out. I want to see your glasses if feasible. Kats

Hi Ian, sorry I fallen asleep before explaining about how to. SpeedRoo is correct, the position of dots are telling year and month. Here is a link when I posted about it, I think other cars have definitely the same markings. So you can find out when your glasses were made Ian ! Kats

Sorry I was mistaken the car, the picture of the door glass “April 1973 “ is for the 1973 240Z, so it is correct. I checked HLS30-01606, the car has correct glasses. Like most of other parts, the date is a little bit earlier than the door jam tag. Kats

Thank you so much xs10shl ! I imagined how many hours were taken to see only the duct opening, thank you. This fact makes me think of that Works rally car , it needs ventilation system (I mean motorized), so they need to be opened like other public cars. Also I remember Mr. Namba ( general manager of works team) said in the magazine “ for preparation of 1971 Safari , we were making a stronger ventilation system for dry dusty conditions. Works cars were going to be equipped with filtration system - inlet air from cabin to engine. In the end, we didn’t need to do it “. How were they going to do it?? Is there any trace which we can see it today ? I am curious about it. On the other hand Z432-R, they omitted the heater box/blower motor to stay light in weight. I asked about it Ando-san who restored at least 5 road going Z432-Rs but he has never seen an original parts that attached to the brackets. Some Z432-Rs have just added a blower motor and a heater box , some Z432-R just don’t have anything around the opening. Ando-san usually makes a rectangular plate for the duct opening because customers always complain about too much cold in winter driving. It is fun to imagine, if a works Z432-R raced in winter, would mechanics have added a delete panel to prevent excessive cold air coming into cockpit ? How about two inlets each side of foot well ? Does a Z432-R have a duct and flap operated by single cable like public cars ? Sorry this is not related, not proper to ask here.I will continue to search for these. About the mounting bracket for the igniter, thank you so much for checking it. So, we see only S20 cars have them on the cowl top panel. LHD cars have only one cowl top panel(no brackets for igniter and inlet opening) for all variants including works rally car, RHD cars have three types i.e. L- series cars ( no brackets for igniter and inlet opening) , S20 Z432 ( brackets only for igniter), S20 Z432-R (brackets for igniter and inlet opening). We discussed this before, early 4 steps of the inspection lid. January 1970 would have #3 version of the lid which has a tab welded to the lid. Seems to me the BAT car has a #4 version which is designed in ONE PIECE with the small tab. Also a rubber cushion is attached a little bit different style from #4 version. So, if this HLS30-01606 has the #4 lid from the beginning, I will tend to think January 1970 was a very complicated month for our Z cars. And this car could be very late of January or maybe touching February . Do we think tar mats on the rear deck was applied from January 1970 ? I am curious about it. I must say this first, this BAT car is an incredible car with a lot of time and money , and passion were put in. Nice car ! Kats Kats

Hi, these pictures might be helpful for this discussion.From Motor Magazine February 1970 . We can confirm parts, colors, how they are fitted by workers in assembly lines. Although this car is a L20 model but mostly the same parts are used for a L24 models. But this white Fairlady Z-L is a bit early made to compare with the BAT car. Because of absence of the hood bumpers, and the shape of the small rubber tab of the inspection lid . This indicates this white car could be very early like made in October 1969. Kats

Hi Chris, my HLS30-02146 got this 220-24152R . So we can say at least up to 03/1970 , our cars don’t have a symbol on the far right upper and lower. We need more reports ! By the way , Japanese tail lights have the same PAT. number for an early and a later one . So if you can’t source an early one but want to install later one to an early car , you just sand the symbol and erase it. For the US , you can erase the symbol but the number 24166 remains and shows it is a later one. About the knob sits vertical and the chrome Z emblem set , I was thinking about it too. This car HLS30-01606 reminds me the data sheet of production number which I have got from Mr.Uemura and Mr.Osawa in 2003 . I mean , according to the data sheet, HLS30 and HS30 were made 543 cars in 1969 , and 1010 in January 1970. So , Total 1553 export S30 cars born before February 1970. HLS30-01606 in January 1970 could be very unusual thing. Early VIN got later date tag is sometimes happened, but the opposite is … What I am feeling about this car is, this car would not come with a vertical knob , nor chrome Z emblems . Because I am feeling this car would be very close to be February made . I can’t see a tiny hole for a retaining an early type cabin air intake. I see the hood bumper on each side is not the early one. These things are telling this car is closer to my 03/1970 240Zs rather than my 01/1970 Z432. Kats

I am so excited about to see this picture.After spending hours of looking at the picture I found a Z432-R doesn’t have a pair of shoulder strap mounts for the passenger side . The difference between them is a persons on board.Maybe it doesn’t a thing to be mentioned , does it? Here are the pictures which I took recently, 1969 Z432-R . I have a question. Do you see the two brackets at the duct opening for the blower motor ? I am thinking the brackets could be only for PZR. If so, how about a PZR body Works car like yours . I am curious about it. I would like to share these pictures, sorry if I did it before in another thread. From Nissan Graph Dec 1969. I can feel the atmosphere, huge excitement all over the place especially around these new car , Fairlady Z series . I think the car which was covered by clouded people was a yellow, displayed at a ‘Owner’s Hall’ which was a bit far from Main stand of Nissan . I circled blue is a main stand of Nissan which is at Hall 2 , red is an Owner’s Hall which is at Hall 6. It is fun to imagine that every evening when the show closed , the car was taken care of wiping thousands of finger prints even got some dents and scratches ! Kats

Hi , I can’t stop doing this, a guitar with a Z. I finally met my dream guitar, it has a stamped JUN 1969 (my birthday is 18th June 1969) on the neck and it is a Lake Placid Blue ! The Internal electrical parts are mixed with a few 1966 and mostly 1969 which are looked to be original. The amplifier is 1968 made which is the best combination for the guitar. Made in USA guitar and amp spent 53 years in the USA. Other one is made in Japan 1970 240Z spent 51 years in the USA . Now they met each other in Japan and started to belong to a 53 year old Japanese owner. Thanks to the large luggage room, I guess designers and engineers might expect for younger generations to have full load of musical instruments on the deck . My guitar and amp fitted just like bespoke. Kats

Thanks Gavin, xs10shl, Namerow, I will think and think before starting the repair job . A good thing is I have a very bad 240Z dashboard to start with , I can do anything and no worries if I do stupid things. Here is an example which was repaired recently by Tasaka san . He is offering to teach me how to. But as Tasaka san said , he is still learning and seeking what is better and this example is just a test bed. We have to wait until we see something happens on the surface . Or hopefully don’t see any defects after passing one year, two years, and more , that will be wonderful. Kats

When I had a vacation in Hawaii, I saw a blue car with white vinyl top in a wreck yard. That was almost 20 years ago. I believe many of you remember this 240ZG , this car is my favorite, super rare example. Maybe the original owner was a rich man, ZG with a factory A/C , Automatic transmission, and the vinyl top. The total payment was absolutely more than the price of Z432. Kats

Hi Chris, I checked my collection. Fairlady Z parts catalogs never listed the vinyl top. But there was a letter for all the dealerships nationwide which indicates the vinyl top . You can see the date was January 21st 1970 . Datsun 240Z sports for US & CANADA , March 1970 parts catalog introduced the vinyl top that was for the first time shown in the parts catalog. Personally, I like it. But maybe for the second or third car , not for my best beloved car. Kats
