Hello Carl, This discussion is very fun to read,I feel too.Now I may interrupt but let me say this. I wish oneday ZCCA could set a new category " Truly stock class". This class requires a car must beautiful and clean, also a car must run and perform as it left from the factory.Need to show up car show day and truck day.Cars are checked its 0-400 time (or HP check on the machine) and have to operate all the electrical system. What I am trying to say is,I think under the rules of ZCCA "stock class" can not find a real stock car as it left from the factory. The rules only see a car's virtual area.We do not own a model car,we own a car which is driven."Stock display class" is suitable,is not it? I know I am saying idiot. But very few people can echo with me? I wish I could see real stock car in the future. I am very looking forward to seeing you Carl! kats

Hi gnosez, Thank you for remembering me,I think you were wearing a hat? I have never seen such an organized convention in Japan,we do not have serious competition like ZCCA. So I was really excited and nervous how much the judges are looking into my car.Off course I new my Z was not able to win the goldmedalion. Now my understanding is,for 1969 and early 1970 owners,we do not have to buy early parts with a big fighting money on ebay. Emblems do not have to be metal, plastic is enough. "D" hubcaps do not have to be early big tab, later "D" hubcaps are enough. Wheels do not have to be 37 years old, neither have to be 4.5 and do not care about date stamping. Rubber hoses do not have to be braided, not braided hoses are enough. Screws and clamps as well,do not buy early just buy clean latest one. But we want to have fun with small parts, every day we get new findings.I love this community here,I can talk with you all and I can show you what I want to say. kats

Hi, This is my thoughts about car show, you may know I brought my 240Z twice,2000 Las Vegas and 2004 Long beach from Japan. These are wonderful experience for me,I thank you every one.I saw lots of wonderful Z people and this brings me that I have been keeping touch with these Zfriends. First,I did not need to be "strict" too much for very little thing. For example, I wanted judge to take concern the badges are all metal, front bumper and brackets are original "single bolt",very original rubber nipple over rider, hose clamps are original, fuel gas evapo tank and hoses are original and new,cam shaft and pistons and valves and crank are original over 30 years old etc etc... My 240Z remains lots of over 30 years old original exterior /interior/engine/axle parts. All functional lights and electrical system, locks, etc etc..They are my big points, but not for judges. The judges do not check my engine condition,my buzzer for door opening, illumination for instrument panel ,radio and functional antenna, clutch for cooling fun, etc etc... It's all about deduction rule.My 240Z has lots of "not clean parts". And the biggest deduction is my exterior blue metallic is not original color.(Some 20 years later,if exterior deteriorated,I want my 240Z to be #903 blue:love: ) There is no additional points. Just need to be clean, cleanness and collect parts for only VISIBLE area. The judges do not peal trim panels,do not open the cam cover, these are needless to say. Thank you, kats P.S. this photo is Z432,very very clean and original collect parts, but to be deducted a lot.Because of the color,a lot of "not collect" zinc plated. The block should be silver.

Hello, Have you ever seen this step lamp?I had naver seen this until I have got it today from ebay.I just want to know how many people have ever seen this actually? I knew it is shown in the parts catalog, but there is no detail description about assembling it. I found there is a box mark on the back of the interior door panel. Also I found there are 3 holes looks like suitable for the step lamp instalation below door armrest's location. I will try this and will report when I succeed. Thank you, kats

Hello, Looking at the catalog,I found some interesting things. Please take a look at the first picture, this Nov 1969 LHD catalog shows the fuel filler knob sits north/south ,can you agree with me? Do not take it serious, let's just have fun. The second picture from same catalog, key number #24 says "84360-E4600 assy-lock gas filler lid".I think we can confirm E4600 existed. But the third picture, from a 3rd revision June 1970 LHD catalog shows the knob is slightly different, can you see the angle between the knob and metal peace tab?Can we say this knob sits east/west when its locked? BTW,a 2nd revision March 1970 has not change anything from the Nov 1969 for this section. Also interesting found, the 4th picture, from the next page of its section, key number #24 says "E4601...." and "E4602....". I think there should be E4600 on the top of its description, because E4600 was born first.Started from E4601 does not make sence.E4600 should be superseded on this section.I guess this is an error of Nissan, what do you think? We always see E4602 on some auctions,in Japan too.We actually see north/south knob, this is E4600 or possibly E4601.But nobody have exprained the difference of these two part numbers. According from this catalog,I doubt E4601 existed.RHD 240Z catalog same,it says from E4601,then E4602 on the description, there is no E4600. Anyway,Japanese catalog says E4602 only in the one issued late 1972.The 5th and 6th picture are from Fairlady-Z catalog. kats

I post two pictures of the fog lamp which is never seen in the U.S. & CANADA catalog. The first one is a DEC 1970 RHD DATSUN SPORTS 240Z catalog. The second one is a late 1972 Fairlady-Z catalog. kats

Hi Marty, The shift boot is perfect, congratulations on this project! We need a grommet next. I post a few photos of the boot of 01/1970 Z432.This car had an old original one but recently has got an OEM NOS boot, the car is now its restration in progress.I forgot to take a photo of the old one, that one is good as its age,I still think this OEM NOS uses a little bit thick material.Or the old one used to be thick? And do you find a difference of the throttle mechanism between this early car and the other later car? If some one is interested in it,I will start a new thread. kats

Hi, The OEM fog was manufactured by KOITO,it is about 5.7 X 3.1 inch. I attached a picture of installing the fog illustrated in the service bulletin Nov 1969. kats

Hi, I want to tell you this, this knob was not made only for Z.My friend reported, in Japan we can see exactly same knob is used for a door opener of an office book shelf.Seems Nissan did not made this, another manufacture(not related car) made. Not only this knob,we can find many parts which is not only for Z car.Bolts nuts clips etc.. kats

Hello Mckrack, I attached two pictures, the one green is the earliest knob sits north/south when it is closed.I took this picture in the convention last year, the car belongs to Mrs.Anne HLS30-00346.I guess this knob is only for 1969 240Z and Z432R or very early 1970.Part number should be -E4600. 26th-Z said this looks plastic made. The one orange is later type, sits east/west when it is closed. Also this shot was taken in that convention, the car belongs to Mr.Dan Banks his car is 1971 Z.This knob is familier for us.We always see this knob in the 1970 to early 1971.Anyway I am not sure this is -E4601 or -E4602.Looks different from the green one,you can tell the green one is simple, but this one is little bit fat and metal. My understanding is,the earliest is -E4600 and sits north/south with simple finish. But I do not know what is different about -E4601. Is -E4601 sits north/south with fat and metal made? Or, Is -E4601 sits east/west with simple finish plastic made ? Or, Is -E4601 sits east/west with fat and metal made (just same as -E4602)? -E4602 is now on ebay,I bought the one from the seller and that is very very fantastic one. Am I talking about what you are looking for? kats

Hello, The fog lamp is very rare here in Japan. We acturely could buy them as an option listed in the brochure. Mr.Matsuo gave me only one fog lamp which he managed to find from his old stock yards.Remember Mr.Matsuo owned a 1971 Fairlady-Z(type Z,standard) and he bought hubcaps, fog lamps and some other stuff. He wanted to buy Z as soon as posssible when he had done Z's designe because he really proud and loved his job for S30 series. But at that time Nissan had to ignore emproyee's parchase, due to huge waiting lists all over the world. We can not see the part number of the fog lamp in the NOV 1969 U.S. & CANADA catalog. But we can see them in the 1969 R-DRIVE S30 parts catalog. Chris, you put the picture of yellow classic fog lamps they are 26150/26155-E4100 I think that picture came from a Yahoo Japan auction some years ago?Because I too was watching them for bidding. But I failed,my friend won for them.I also have saved that image in my computer when I was watching. I put pictures of my only one fog lamp from Mr.Matsuo and a fog lamp switch of Jan 1970 Z432(PS30-00088) now restoration in progress. This switch's picture was taken by mobile phone camera so it is not good. I need one more fog lamp. kats

Thank you daddz and Alan. Yes this color finish is not original.Moroe- san has a strong polcy for this black paint. It is dualable so much he said. And plated engine mounts, not only these Moroe-san love to aplpy plating because it is dualable too.Good for preventing rust. I wish this water side hose become braided,Moroe-san has huse collection of early parts so I think he does. Alan,is your mail adress good ? I wanted to send P.M. for you about Z and lots of things. kats

Hello Alan, Thank you for your input. That is what I want.I too understand it is not safe to say "this is 100% sure" according old color picture.I love this grey very much though. This Z432 has S20-000884!! Very near from your 432R's engine.Yes this car registered Jan 1970,I found tach and speed meter and lots of parts dated 44(1969)and some 45(1970). The dash is stamped 26 DEC 1969,after the X'mas day is not it? This car is PS30-00088 and S20-000884.Lots of "8" I love it. In japan,8 means good thing.I can not exprain it in english for now.Could you help me Alan. kats

Hello Chris and dadds, This valve cover's color is correct for 1970 S20 engine.I can see this color in the some magazines issued jan or feb 1970. I was told this color "greenish" is the second , the earliest S20 is "blackish". I think this is almost right. And there is a factory RED one this is the third and final,I do not know for this.I am not for sure. Alan can give an answer for us !! I am doing post a new thread for HLS30 and PS30/comparison between these early 1970 cars. kats

Hi geezer,Chris,Dan and friends, Let me tell you quickly,I bought mine some 4 or 5 years ago from the Z shop in japan.I bought it from tha shop but it came from Nissan as a genuine factory replacement. So,it is different from 1970 original vinyl. It is quite thick and stiff.I say it is a factory OEM part but it is not the same from 1970's.I think the one in the picture of the Z432 is a just same replacement boot.An owner must replace within some 5 years,I can not say 100% for sure anyway.Like Chris said, they are just different in style. I called the shop today, they said they are NLA.I regret I did not buy two or three. kats

Hello, I agree with Arne, the original is thin vinyl.Seems aging makes it thiner and thiner. My 240Z has got the one from the shop in JAPAN. Do you think it is original or not.I post a picture of Z432's too. kats

Hello, I give my big support to Alan(HS30-H),his post told me an important point of view. My 03/1970 240Z is "Series 1" according to the definition common in the U.S. I think it is a good idea to divide 1,2,3, it makes me think simple. After I learned this, it is useful when I browse Ebay to find parts for my 240Z. But I should know this term "Series 1,2,3,"is not oriented from NISSAN Official.Nail down the definition seems difficult,if I manage to draw a border line,it is only for my own.Or for the people who use this. The term is not oriented from NISSAN ,so there is no NISSAN official definition which someone can make. Each man can have each definition for the term,it is fun to discuss. But I need to make it clear that it is not official term if I write an article for a car magazine. At least someone who broadcasts his article on the web/book(including me) especially journalists should do pay attention for this.I think Alan told me this in his posts. My interests is going to earlier Z than mine always, honestly I can not be relax only to see "Series 1" in Ebay. Started from 10/69,there must be parts amendments almost every month or every a couple of month.I remember someone here said, "(worker in assembly line said) what changes do we have today?" I like that. And it is almost true I think.Personaly I do not look into 240Z as 1,2,3. I look into like this, is this car 10/69 or 11/69 or 12/69? etc. By the way,in Japan we do not say Series 1,2,3,.We just do not have.We refer "44 (yon-yon, 1969)" " 45( yon-go, 1970)" like that. Alan, let me introduce this,I really like your word in PM for me,I apologise this prior to get permission. "... This is the FAMILY that we should look at. There are brothers and sisters in this family, but there is no 'King' that is superior to the others. That is what I believe..." I started to think my 240Z based on this point of view. Thank you, kats
