With my first project that was rusted out we managed to cut and shut a tricky part of the wheel well but at the end of the day even if you do a good job it prob needs panel beating and a lot of work to get it great. So with mine I opted to find a better shell. All depends how much time you have. Shells that far gone can even get hard welding in new bits when the steels so thin

Ooo yuck. How goods your welding haha

So this is what im working with... what was under the boot.. what they welded in place.. and some nice cut n shut work in the boot... not sure of the reasoning for this.. Then i noticed the rust repair in the rear quarters has been left untreated and theres real crispy bits of metal that probably still contains rust in the bottom so will grind it all back and see what needs doing.

They think 'I heard you can put r31 brakes on it might wack some brackets on. Bit of rust in floor.. Hmm grinder will fix that! Weld some mounts to cross member, cut up the chassis to fit an intercooler. Bang. Race car.
  19. It's funny how they come in waves. In the two years I've been looking into and owning 240ks, they seem to drop off the planet then all of a sudden there's 5 for sale. Which is good I guess because each time they try to fetch high prices

Under the rear of the car has reminded me that this next project is a doozy.. Firsty the previous guy cut the spare wheel well out to put a flat floor in it, which is a bit of checker plate bolted in and scrap metal tacked in place. so that will be getting ripped out and a wheel well welded back in. next is it had R31 disk rear brackets welded on not too well, and from what i gather that path was not going to be easy nor legal, so i will be grinding it off and putting drums back on. Then theres the diff. It has this wicked burnout sick drag car spec centre in it, which i will be replacing, but on a good note i was told it has 3:9s in it. Which i was told at datsport that if it does, their not easy to come across. All i can see stamped on the crown wheel is 'H 3 9 X 1 1 J 7-3' any ideas? (Edit. just found its 39/11 = 3.54 ratio. ie stock ratio) another bull**** fact thrown in when i bought the car Also has big fuel lines that were bent all dodgy down the car as it was going to have fuel pumps under the car for the RB20. So new fuel lines will be run. Another good note is that it has nolathane kframe bushes, wishbone bushes, diff mustache bushes, new pedders shocks and low king springs! FUN FUN

Yep kframe mounts and diff mounts are new nolathane

Nah jack the rear up, and do rear brakes. R31 disks were dodgy welded on so taking them off and putting drums back on. Then gotta take the locker out haha

It's rolling!!! Yay So you like my sexy rims
  24. tez240k posted a post in a topic in 240K Skyline
yeah hopefully feels better than the first project that i drove for a couple days. Go round a corner, your mirrors almost touch the ground with that much body roll then 20 minutes of it wobbling down the road and feeling like you cant stop at the traffic lights the brakes were that spongy. haha! maybe a strut brace might tighten it up a bit more too. ive heard they are pretty wavy up front even with stiff springs

ok. So after spitting the dummy with the struts i had and the one and a half calipers. i Bought a pair of struts off downunder datsuns page off a dude in adelaide. They have super low king springs and near new Monroe shock inserts with sumi calipers. They had the brake line bracket taken off because they were in a 1600, so had a mate weld some one, painted them in my grey, and put them in. Bit of a pain with all the new bushes making everything so tight, and after getting one side put together, found the pin that holds the lower control arm was stripped so had to pull it all apart again. Lucky i had a spare. Now i just have to connect steering arms and put the calipers on.. progress!
