My mistake. I thought he told us it was holly but you are correct about it being a Weber. When we go a buy the rebuild kit how do I know what kit I need? Are those carbs stock?

The block is a F54 with a P 90 head. The distributor is electric and it has duel carbs. I'll work on posting pix.

We just acquired a 1973 240z with a 280z engine installed in it. I do not know the year of the engine. I have found numbers on the engine such as "N33" and "L28 563932" below the rear spark plug. Does the L28 mean it is a 2.8 liter? How can I tell what year the engine is, and what does N33 mean? The spark plugs are set to .038 but I think they may need to be .040 or greater. I noticed the distributor has two plates with numbers and marks. Does that mean you can set the timing without a timing light?

26th-z you have a good point. In the last 24 hours he has learned how to find the ID number on the block, change/gap spark plugs, bleed brakes and replace the throttle return spring. While he was changing the spark plugs he learned the hard way to remove the spark plug wires from the boot and not by yanking on the wire. So then he learned how to repair the spark plug wire/boot. Next he will need to ID the holly carbs and buy two rebuild kits. I'll rebuild one as he learns and he will do the 2nd. After that he will learn how to do the timing and hopefully the engine will run smooth.

I owe Bonzi some doughnuts as you are correct. The two tack welds broke on the bracket. Looks to be a simple fix but it did rip the interior lining a bit. No don't tell him any Z college stories, he already has too many bad ideas.

TY Brubaker! When my father in-law told me he was giving my son the car my Red Flags went up. I strongly expressed that a 240z is not a good car to learn to drive in... way too fast and tempting to speed. I have yet to check into it but I am rather sure they do not hold up well in a wreck, so safety is a concern. The fact that it has the 280z engine does not help matters. I want my son to earn a very basic car for day to day driving and the z is for "date-night" or special occasions. Problem is we do not have room for him to have 2 cars.

Hello, My name is Darryn and my son was given a 1973 240z sporting a 280z engine from his grandfather today. My son will be 16 shortly and is drooling looking at the car. The car has issues, but with some TLC and daddy's wallet it could be an "awesome" car. I have many questions and things to fix on the car, but before I waste anybody's time I will read threw the posted threads and may find my answers there. , as I am typing this my son just came in and told me while he was showing his friend the car, the hatchback strong arm just broke off and now the hatch won't stay open. 0ooooo I am going to the poor house I just know it.
