Thought this might be of interest to some. Don't know how hard core you guys are about swapping things so hope this is not out of line. I put an SR20DET in my 240Z. I want it to not be real noticeable from the outside so I am keeping most everything stock looking(except for the 300hp and 30mpg thing). I wanted the gauges to remain stock but the tach wouldn't work with the SR. I found a 280Z tach and put it in the 240 housing. I used an MSD tach box to hook up the 280 tach. I also hooked up a stock SR tach for comparison purposes. I then matched the 280 tach to the SR tach at 3500rpm using the adjustable pot on the back of the 280 tach. It worked like a charm. I have a friend that used the 280 tach for an LT also and gave me the idea so it looks like it will work with less or more cylinders. The tach reacts very quickly and is accurate through the whole range. I now have all the stock gauges working and fixed the dash light bulbs and heater controls while I was there. I pulled the heater controls out to get to the tach. It is a bear to get the tach out on a 240 but easier on the 280.

That's what I was thinking. I need the signal switch and covers on the column. Want to sell them? PM me.

You might look at the speed rating when deciding how you want your car to ride. The lower it is, the nicer the ride. RS3's and Star Specs ride like an A6 which you can drive on with NO air in. The stiff sidewall is great for handling but not so great for a nice Sunday afternoon cruise with your sweetie. Width is only one of the factors on hitting in the front, height is the another. A shorter tire with more width will not be as likely to hit. Keeping the tire all the way inboard (offset) will also help to not hit the valance. It has been my experience that lowering springs usually bottom out unless you do something to prevent it. Shortening the struts is a good way to stop that. Hope that helps with your decision and doesn't just confuse you more. Sometimes I think my head will explode with all the decisions about how I want my Z. Good Luck, logr
  4. Few options with the height at approx. 24.5 and wider than a 205. RS3's come in a 225/45/15 but that is only 23" tall. I want a bit taller though it will probably be my autox tire of choice.
  5. The new Enkie 92's come in 15x8 +25. I tried one on the rear of my 240 with 225/45/15 RS3's. It didn't hit the stock spring by a fingernail amount. A taller tire would have hit for sure but with coilovers, all would have been fine. There are so few tires in a 225/50/15 and the 45 is only 23 inches tall, a bit short for my taste. I am really thinking of going with a 17" wheel because of this but the 225/45/17 is generally 25" or taller so I am still undecided. I am not going with flares but want all the tire I can get. I have an SR for power and want to autox a bit as well as possibly a track day now and then but I want to drive the car every chance I get. I'm not going the race only route again, for a while at least. It seems that some people are getting 245/40/17's under stock fenders but I'm not sure how.
