As some of you may have noticed (yeah right:cheeky: ) I've been away for a little while. Reason being I've cought the kart racing bug and have been searching and researching for a suitable go kart to begin with. Anyone race or used to race or is thinking about racing go karts? Looks like a fantastic sport and some of the comparisons, stats and figures I've seen are mindblowing. These things are bloody fast and if thrills is your thing then check it out.

I get lots of fumes in my car. The worst kind are crank case fumes which are pretty toxic and I get them all the time. I think it's time for an oil catch can. I never realised how bad the fumes were until about two weeks ago. On top of that, the design of my extractors makes it impossible to prevent exhaust fumes. The torque bends the flange (horizontal) at the end of the extractor and when it bends back the pipes stay at a slight angle while the extractor itself is in the original position creating a small gap. I've hammered the flange back but it just happens again. The thread positioning is not helping the situation. Next extractors will definately have vertical flanges with a recess in the middle to further prevent leaks. The recess also means you can do away with gaskets but it's advisable to have a thin one just so that the flange doesn't get stuck together from the heat. It's weird that you don't get fumes with windows down but I suspect you will find your answer will have something to do with vacuum like Keith mentioned. If all else fails, have no fear, you will get used to them. Mine are so bad that I end up crying after a 30 minute trip and I'm still alive. Although I have developed a slight twitch and my skin is flaking a bit.:cheeky:
  4. Sorry Carl I can't help you mate but I thought I'd make you feel better. I don't have a clue what you are asking so it's not a stupid question at all. Or am I really simple in the head? Either way it's not a stupid question. Goodluck
  5. I was at the Hot Rod show here in Sydney last month and House of Kolor had a rather huge exhibit (being sponsors and all) and their samples looked fantastic to say the least. Some cars featured their work and it is without a doubt amazing but would you get a daily driver painted like that? Never. Even a weekender? I wouldn't. I can just imagine a jelous idiot scrathing your car on purpose. Ka ching, there goes $4000 redoing the pannel/s. carguyinok said it, it's only for trailer queen rods.
  6. Do you mean a pearl paint job Rick or is chamelion something different altogether?
  7. 1 vent isn't so bad... ...as long as a supercharger is sticking out of it.:devious:

  9. I'd go one silver stripe about 6 inches wide on the opposite side of the drivers side. ie. not in the middle of the car. I'd like a screaming SR20 over an RB. The SR engines have been proven over and over and can handle double the stock power output with little (if none at all) internal strengthening. Having said that, bugger both those engines and get a V8. Cheap as chips and hell-of-alot-of fun.

I couldn't find the broken uni and I did take it to a driveshaft mechanic on Saturday but he couldn't help me either. He did say it definately sounds like a uni problem though. I'm not going to bother taking the shafts out to find the broken one as I want to convert it to cv's. Does anyone know if the Z31 shafts Gav was talking about bolt right in? If not, which ones do? Cheers

Keith, it is an LSD and thanks guys. Looks like my weekend just got busier. I'll most likely need help along the way so I'll ask when I (most certainly) get stuck along the way. Cheers

That's what I was hoping. Thanks. I wonder what keeps on making that noise though. I thought the crack was the caps or joint breaking off and it'll only happen twice (one for each side) and then the shaft would come loose? Anyway, it's holding on so I'll just take it in to this driveshaft place on Saturday and see what comes of it. Might try to get some cv's made up. Cheers guys

As some of you might remeber I snapped a uni-joint a short while ago. Last night I thought I did another one but now I'm not so sure. Here's what happened; I was giving the car a bit of a workout for about half an hour and arriving at my destination I put it in reverse to park it. I didn't accelerate really harshly as I was in reverse but I heard the same type of crack like the time the uni-joint broke. Anyway, I had dinner and proceeded to go home expecting the car to seize up any minute so I was driving well below the speed limit and staying out of the way of traffic just in case. Nothing happened until I was close to home when it happened again but this time it was in first gear accelerating up a hill. At this point I started to drive really slowly practically trying to creep it home before the half shaft came off. I got home safely and today I got under there to have a look but could see nothing wrong. I didn't check the drive shaft joints as I was running out of time so I just thought I'd drive it to see if I can snap it. Gave the car a thrashing in the forward gears and nothing happened. I thought I'd try reverse and I heard the same crack under heavier than normal load. Repeated it again one more time, happened again and then I gave up. Initially I thought it was the uni-joints but now I'm not so sure. Wouldn't the shaft have fallen off by now? And why would it make the same noise over and over, it can't be cracking over and over right? The only thing I can think of is the diff mount??? Any thoughts? Cheers ps, sorry about the story:cheeky:

  24. Yeah I thought the Blues might step up again to take the overall lead but it looked like their spirit was gone after winning the series. Shame they couldn't give the spectators a closer match although I'm sure all the toads loved every minute of the slaughter.
  25. The maroons absolutely tore them apart tonight. But we still won the series.:devious:
