Chess anyone?
Anyone want to play chess? I'll post screenshots of the board as it progresses. Nice and easy pace at say a move or two a day (might take a while to finish so if you are inpatient please don't bother). We can obviously go faster if the two players are online more often. I'm not that good at the game so don't be shy or scared to play. If more than one person wants to play that's fine by me. We can just run a couple of threads. Other forums that I'm on do not express that much interest in chess but I'm guessing from the age average of this one that some of you might be interested in the game. Sooo, what say you to a "Classic Z Cars Chess Tournament"? If you would be interested in playing (remembering that it might be months before the Tournament, or a single game, is finished) please put your hand up and if enough people are interested I'll see if we can organise one. Cheers

Donnie Darko
For sure! It's been on repeat for a while now. Very good choice of songs and they seem to be a perfect fit for the movie.

Donnie Darko
You say it still packs in cinema seats. Is it still out anywhere in Sydney? I would love to go see it on the big screen. Yeah, there are many things like that eg throughout the movie. That's part of its appeal. You will continue to notice things with every viewing. Here's one for you- At the very begining of the movie when Donnie comes home on his bike you see Frank drive off in the opposite direction in his red car after having just dropped off his girlfriend, Donnies sister. One of my fav ones though is the horn of Franks car (on two occasions) and a secret subtitle. I won't disclose any more cause I fear I'm wrecking the movie for those that haven't seen it.

Huh huh? What do you mean by Huh?

Donnie Darko
That's got to be the best interpretation I've heard. I find that extremely funny as it's kind of true. The bunny does make him do evil things but the ironic thing is that he actually guides him, through those evil things, to save the world.

Donnie Darko
Who has seen this movie and what did you think of it? I'm an addict I'm afraid. I saw it 3 times within the first 12 hours of hiring it and have been back to the video shop for another round. Have seen it 5 times since that first day and now I'm pretty sure I understand it all. For those that haven't seen it and are thinking "it took this guy 5 times to understand it?" Well, you do understand it on a very low level the first time you watch it but with every viewing after that you reveal sub levels of it that are just amazing. You get more and more out of it every time and basically the director has left so much to the individuals interpretatios. A modern classic! You just have to be give praise to Richard Kelly (director). It's his first movie and if this is anything to go by we are witnessing a new Spielberg (with a modern twist) in the making. Mods, I didn't know where to post this so I put it in here. Move if necessary please. Mike, can we have like a Wasteland/General/Culture non-car chat area please?

Zed in other languages
Speaking of badges, does anyone know if the new 350Z side badge will fit on a 240? You know the one I'm talking about, front quarter panel, black background with a silver Z. Looks really nice inho. Sorry to ask in here Mike but I didn't think it warranted a new thread. Cheers.

A Sense of Hopelessness
Age and sex has alot to do with the way they treat you. Also your knowledge affects their 'rip off factor'. It sucks and maybe some of you might disagree with me but these things all affect the level of service you get. Now I'm not saying that all mechanics are like this but it's a sad fact that alot of them are. How many of you have heard stories of your friends wife/sister/mother being ripped off by mechanics? Maybe visiting the mechanics with your older brother or father might yield better results alfadog.

The Wiggles Are Coming!!!
That's not fair on the kiddies though. Suppose that enflicting the wiggles on parents isn't fair either. hmm, what a moral dilema. The wiggles are 5 guys from Australia that sing kiddy songs and act like morons and get paid for it pretty damned well. We've had them here for a long time now and we finally got exported them so enjoy.

Can LHD drive in Australia?
Are you serious? How good is that. I hardly drive my car 90 days a year anyway. Wish NSW was like that:cry:

Can LHD drive in Australia?
I think what he's trying to say is they are cracking down on poorly converted cars where they've used a chain type conversion. Not on original LHD cars. Full rego means full car registration. State laws vary like over in the US and some states (namely South Australia) might not allow LHD to be fully road registered. This will leave you with club rego only allowing you to drive your car during club events. This sounds a bit harsh to me and I doubt it's the case. I presume you are thinking about Victoria here Mike. ]Read this for their requirements. Halfway down the page you'll find what you are looking for.

Can LHD drive in Australia?
Correct. We call them ADR's here. You love them if you own an old car and hate them if you own a new car and wish to modify it.

You're not just buying the engine though. A US importer would have a field day with that car. Double his money in parts easy I'd say. Only thing I don't understand is it says it's got the HICAS traction control system when GTR's come out with the 4wd system called ATTESA?? When I got into the Skyline scene (they were still a rarity here then) people were paying $20,000+ for a new GTR engine. Don't know how much they cost brand new now.
-
Can LHD drive in Australia?
Sure. If they are older than 30 years you don't have to convert them or get special rego. Not too sure about newer cars though I have seen some newish Mustangs and such with LHD

Ok, here's the newest Z...
Now that's a bargain! Congrats, car looks and sounds great. Interested in seeing the chrome valve cover. ...and it's a one owner too. Did you rob him blind or what?

No doubt you will find half-cuts for that price. Whether they've done 37,000k's or 137,000 is another matter. All I'm saying is that engine is pretty fresh and would fetch a good price, especially in the US with Skylines being a bit rarer.
-

Engine alone without loom in Aus sells for <$7000. One with loom clutch etc goes for alot more. Half cuts are easily in the 10's. Brembo brakes from a GTR are pretty expensive too. Rims are extortionally expensive. The low milage on this engine would fetch a decent price. Now add all the other extra tidbits and you have yourself a very good deal.

Very good price. Just the engine and the brakes would cost more than the sale price.
