A review of what's gone - period 240Z exhausts
Great job, I had the Clifford System for many years, until the glass packs went. I bought my car in 1979, and purchase the system through Bob Sharp Datsun. I still have the headers on the car, with a Abarth muffler, so you can add that to your list of manufactures that had a system for our cars. I am looking forward to going back to the dual system in the future, but I will wait until the Abarth goes bad. Thanks for the great write up..... Bob

1970 Series I 240Z Unique Parts
I assume that the expansion tank being discussed in the post above is the fuel expansion tank on the passenger side rear. This is not a coolant expansion tank? I have never seen a coolant expansion tank in a 240z as OEM, is that correct? Does anyone know when the switch was made on the oil pressure gauge from the early 140lbs to the 90? Thanks, Bob

Old Part advice?
Howdy, Hope you all are having a great weekend! Doing a little work on the z today, and starting thinking of the parts that I have and what I might need. Changing out my old door panels, finally put in my "new" ron's z's clock, which works as good as it looks! Changing out the bushings on the compression rods later today. I starting thinking of evilbaying some of the extra parts I have around that I will never use, and then thought about some things I should start to gather as "spares" I need your advice, I have a series one car, and I have slowly added spares that I thought I would need. The things that I don't have are the steering column upper and lower u-joints and the fuel expansion tank. I was also told that rear brake cylinders are NLA? Not sure if and when any of these parts fail or need to be replaced, but thought I should ask the experts here. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Bob

Cool reproduction stuff.... what about?
Wow, I am really surprised with all the cool stuff available for our cars! Door panels, choke knobs, throttle knobs, rebuilt clocks and I just realized that someone has done Series 1 interior hatch trim!!! So, I must be missing a few things, so I thought I would ask: 1. What about the trim for the console for series 1 cars under the choke/throttle knobs? I know they use to come with console, anyone know of anyone reproducing those? Anyone else need one? 2. Glove box emblem? Have not seen those for awhile! 3. OK< oil pressure sending unit for the 140lbs gauge? 4. I know those ash trays are tough to come by.... is there much demand for those. Someone told me that the '69 cars had a different ash tray than the '71 series 1 cars.... 5. Upper steering shaft with u-joint, I know the lower one is still available. Thanks for all the input!!!! Clock repair for Z's
I also purchased a clock from Ron. Not only did the clock arrive in a timely matter, but looks great. He also communicated extremely well. I would recommend him highly. I will admit, that I have not installed the clock yet! So I can't comment on the "keeping time" part, but I have no concerns! Just to lazy to get out in the cold! Thanks Ron for your efforts. Bob

Any one looking for a "fixer" or parts '71 Z
Sounds like it's not worth giving the guy a hard time, he has no idea what that " jap thing" is anyway. Thought it might be something decent for someone for $250! Some out there have no clue????? It looks like a late 71 to me. Needs work!!!!

Any one looking for a "fixer" or parts '71 Z
This car is close by if anyone is looking. Price is right, but not something I am interested in. I can assist if someone is really interested. Car is in Central Oregon http://bend.craigslist.org/pts/1034810621.html Enjoy your weekend, Bob

The hardest part to find
Thanks guys for all your efforts on these parts. Please keep me posted when they become available. It has started to snow again, so the z is in the garage for the time being. Enjoy your weekend, Bob

The hardest part to find
So, if you can reproduce them, or if the guy that reproduce them before has any left, I would be interested in picking up either a set or just the throttle, what ever is available. Keep us posted and thanks for all your efforts. Bob

The hardest part to find
Any idea of cost and timing? How long would you need the throttle knob for and what about the choke knob?
-
The hardest part to find
Can the knob be reproduced? If so, I would be interested and might be able to come up with a "original" one, I think having the early throttle and choke knobs reproduced would be very cool Bob

I live in Portland Oregon
Look forward to seeing as many of you on the dry side of the mountains. I just drove my car this past week, so expect a major change in the weather! Keep us posted on when you all of you come over our way. Might have to join the club....... just to feel like, I am in touch.......... Thanks, Bob

I live in Portland Oregon
OK< So this is a old thread!!! I am in Central OR, just south of Bend, with a series 1 240z. I have had the car for over 30 years, and it likes to go on drives! I just see all these clubs listing all these events in Portland, and none here? There was a club over here at one time, not sure what happened to it. Been thinking of some of the "northwest clubs" as a alternative. Keep us posted on the events scheduled........ O, by the way, I have been to Portland many times, but never stayed at a Holiday Inn Express.............. Enjoy the ride, Bob:)

Thinking of picking up a euro points dizzy from MSA
I have been running the Euro version of the distributor for over 20 years, and I like it. I also have a standard one that I have swapped out a few times. I a couple of years ago, I added the a new coil and electronic ignition into the Euro distributor. I must say, besides for the quicker starts, not much of a difference with the points were new. I do like the fact that I don't have to change points!!!! I like using original parts, so that's why I went to the Euro version. However, as mentioned above, you can get your standard reworked, I was just too lazy......

Roberts Competition's Exhaust
Sure, I will go measure the inside of the pipe at the muffler flange. and the header pipe later. Enjoy, Bob

Roberts Competition's Exhaust
The original tubing is nothing special, just the old stuff. Doing it in Stainless would be more dollars I would guess? Bob

Roberts Competition's Exhaust
and he will reproduce the header if we can get 10-15 people to purchase them. I am sure it won't be inexpensive, but he did say he would do it, IF he had a original to copy. I have the original!!!! There might be others out there too. I can say, his headers still work after 30 years and I have plenty of horsepower. Side note, he did talk about a 280 with redline weber fuel injection that just cleaned up in a race in Europe!!! Datsun still lives......... Enjoy Bob

Roberts Competition's Exhaust
Little late to the conversation, but here is my 2cents. I purchased the entire system when I bought my car in 1979 from Bob Sharp Datsun. I ran the system until 89, when it go so loud, and I was able to purchase a Abarth system for the car ( which I still run). I kept the headers and had a adapt to the original Clifford header. I have contact Clifford a few times about reproducing the dual system again, and as you have heard, not going to happen. I was told it would be cheaper to have a local shop do it. Well, fast forward to 2008, and I get a PM from Arne about a guy in Medford Oregon, who had a 240z exhaust system for sale on craigslist. As it turns out, he had already sold the header, but had the tail sections, new in the box! I got a hold of him and purchase the entire thing for $100. Thanks to this forum, and guys like Arne, dreams do come true....... Anyway, I was thinking I could get someone to reproduce the tail sections off of the original system, that way I could run the reproduction and keep the original. That way, others that might be interested in running this system could do so. I am not sure about finding a header that will match, but I would be interested in that too, as mine has been on the car for a long time, but works great!!! Anyway, Let's see how much interest there is in reproducing these things! Enjoy, Bob

Best "performance" tire for a 70 240z
Thanks for the reply. No, I actually like Les Scwabs service, but I have never actually bought tires for any of my sports cars there. Actually, I went to Goodyear today for tires for my Jeep, and started thinking of tires for the Z. In the past, for my Fiats ( which also use a strange size 13" tire) , I have used Tire Rack and others. By the way, THANKS SO MUCH for the lead on the exhaust system. It was new in the box and is now home with me! Maybe I will have a shop reproduce it if others are interested!!!! Thanks, Bob

Best "performance" tire for a 70 240z
HOWDY, I currently have some old BFG Radial TA's on my 70 240z, that I am thinking of replacing. First of all, my car is a stock 240z with Nissan European Springs, MSA sway bars, KYB struts, on stock 280zx wheels ( see attached). The current tires are 195/70-14, but I am not that happy with them. Any suggestions on some decent tires? What sizes are you all running? Thanks in advance, Bob

What's in YOUR garage?
Well, after spending all it's time in the garage, the 240 got moved to driveway, for the next week. I sold my X1/9 this past summer, for a "big" Fiat. Currently my Fiat 850 spyder and a new addition, a 1989 Ferrari 328. So that is what bumped the z outside. The Fiat goes to the warehouse next week, and the z goes back in the garage with the 328. Daily drivers, 04 Grand Cherokee and 90 Cherokee remain out in the snow and weather all year, until I can build a shop behind the house. By the way, after having the Ferrari for a bit, it has made me appreciate my 240z even more. I really thought I would start to lose interest, not true. I thought I would sell it, but I hope I don't have to. Folks, keep those 240z's, they are very impressive sports car. If you don't have one yet......GET ONE NOW. Enjoy, RG

BKelly, Let me know what you want for your ANZA. What twice pipe set up are you going with? Thanks, Bob
