I'll try to take pics this weekend http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/classic01b/40-3401A That is the plate I am trying to screw on to the vent door sliding mechanism. The sliding mechanism along with the cables are all attached to the heater box, unfortunately I cannot get the leverage behind the dash to screw in the mechanism to the plate. Also does the rear of the sliding mechanism sit or hook on to something or it simply screws on to the panel and the panel screws on to the dash? This would be so much easier with pics, and i'll get them this weekend.

Moving along with the Z and currently putting the hvac plate on. I read somewhere the plate should be already attached to the cables and then the cables to the heater box? If that's the case my cables are all already connected. Is there another way to install the plate. Any photos would be great! Thanks!! mo
  4. Hi, everyone. Trying to knock my Z out before the summer is over. I got the dash in, fuel tank and lines in, suspension, brakes need minor work such as installing the master cylinder and clutch master. The major hurdle is pairing the engine and trans together and dropping it in the car(need a crane first). other than that it's all body work and assembly. I gave in and purchased the bolt kit for the entire car, other than that I need to purchase the weather-stripping kit. If there a few members near Bronx, NY to help me put together my Z, I will cover your food, gas, toll. Any help would be great!! thx Mo

    Just saw this. Thank you!!
  6. sorry its a '72 240z. I should really update my profile! Anyway, the pics are great! I wasn't sure if the heater plate panel takes the bulk of the load off that mechanism. I have to search the service manual again, and look for my "how to restore your Datsun Z" book to get some references.
  7. Hello everyone, just rebuilt the heater box, heater core, installed new foam everywhere. I have installed the heater box and the cables. My dash is not in yet as I wanted to take care of this first and then put the dash. I have installed the heater control mechanism cables to the appropriate section of the heater box excluding the blower motor flap. My question: 1. Is there a bracket that holds the long cable to the blower motor flap? My box doesn't seem to have it. 2. I know the heater cable mechanism attaches to the back of the heater control panel, is there another mounting point behind the heater control mechanism? 3. Will I have an issue installing the dash with the heater mechanism already connected to the box(not the heater control panel) Thanks!
  8. Thanks! Thanks for this, this is exactly what I was looking for. Since I don't have that much time with college and such, I prefer to buy everything online or Amazon and get the parts and go straight to work. This to me is better than spending half of a day running to stores looking for stuff.
  9. Thanks!
  10. Hello everyone. Before I put the dash in, I wanted to do the HVAC system. As usual everything is scattered and I have no hardware. My questions: -Bolt sizes for the Heater and A/C system? -Can I install the A/C system at a later time? -best way to refurb the HVAC parts(blower motor assy box and heater core, condenser units), should I degrease and wash out? -Foam recommendations for the blend door and such? -Is black duct tape to seal little cracks in the vent tubing? Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
  11. Steve, I just went through the fuel tank install. Man was it a pain! Ok this is what I did: I did mine on the floor with no lift, just jack stands. 1. put blankets or cardboard on the floor and underneath the tank so the jack stands don't scratch it. 2. make sure all your grommets are in place. 3. connect all the hoses to the tank and route them through the correct openings(longest hoses). 4. guide the fuel sending unit harness near the sending unit, don't connect it at this point just put it out of the way. 5.Tighten the hose across from the fuel return and sending lines. 6. attach the bands to the rear of the vehicle(not the J bolt ends) and support them while hanging. 7.use a little soapy water on the main filler neck and attach it to the tank with the clamp. 8. Have someone hold the tank up while you install the main filler neck, or use jack stands to hold the fuel tank up. 9. attach the other end of the band(j bolts) 10. tighten and connect all the hoses. 11. tighten the j bolts. 12. connect the fuel harness. I'm pretty sure I am missing something but I hope this is helpful.

Hello everyone. I am about 90% complete with the placement of the wiring and switches on the dash. I was having a real problem with the cigg lighter and hazard switch installation. I don't know what happened before me, but this bracket is all out of alignment. Does anyone have a photo by any chance of the bracket unbent? It took me a while to try and align it, but only to have either the hazard out of alignment or the cigg lighter out of alignment. Also looks like someone stretched out the holes on the dash for the hazard/cigg lighter. Can I somehow fill this in with a plastic filler? Thanks for your help!

Captain Obvious is correct, I don't need a plate I prefer to have it. Kind of bothers me not seeing a vin tag !

I pretty much wanted it because it annoyed me that I didn't have it. Paperwork wise I should be good*knock on wood*.
  16. that's some pricey ribeye!!
  17. I've seen this ad before on craigslist. There was a restored Z on ebay a few weeks ago that went for about $50k. His price seems kinda high but you never know in this market.

That sucks. Luckily I have a title. Strangely though, there is a Arizona control number on my door jamb on it and also my vin number is on this Arizona tag.

Thanks Dan, I really appreciate it! The cables I ordered are the correct length. I just need to add a few more inches to the firewall ground wire through the butt connector.

Spoke to Mike over at Banzai, he has looked into reproducing them but the initial cost is too high. Maybe a group buy would help out? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Hi, just purchased some battery cables(pos. and neg) and noticed that the ground has a butt connection instead of a ring terminal to screw into the firewall. Would anyone have the length for the ground cable to the firewall and also the length of the main ground wire? Also the positive cable length. I am attaching a pic from http://www.new-datsun-parts.com/. Thanks, mo
  24. Not to get too off topic, but do they sell the gear pattern decal somewhere?

Hi, would anyone know where I can get a replacement dashboard vin tag? The PO sent out the dash to get recovered and I can't find the tag anywhere in the dozens of boxes. I have the other tags. Thanks!
