I've tried that before, didn't go over very well Nothing like a box full of nice new parts, your car looks in pretty good shape without too much rust, are you going to tackle the suspension next?
  2. and another $70k to get it in shape, could be a fun project though.
  3. You're not going to push it around like that are you? All that work.

It's a big job but in every Z's life that console panel with the heat and vent levers has to come off and be cleaned and lubed, that also gives you a chance to check the push/pull cables (stiff wire rods) clean and lube them as well. You have to detach the wire cables at the heater box in four locations, it is a pain because you have to cram yourself up into the foot wells under the dash. You may also find that the problem lies in the heater box itself and not the control panel. There are also some good threads in the archives that go through the procedure.

Here is a pic from a Cali 1970 240 that is on BaT at the moment, https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1970-datsun-240z-17/
  6. @DC871F What's the story with the white 240 you have hiding in the back ground? Looks like its in very nice shape.
  7. Kats, what kind of filter media is in those air boxes? It kind of looks like oiled gauze.
  8. Jeff, couldn't say it any better, it's surprising how close that it to my own story, good on you.

I came across this fun F1 graphic, thought you guys might enjoy it.
  10. When I was last in Kentucky 30 yrs ago, Fireball was the name of the cheapest gut rot bourbon you could buy, nasty stuff, could this still be the same company?

@theguppies, beautiful work, this looks like it could be a better alternative to sending your dash out to be restored. Great price too, what are your recommendations for adhering your dash to the original dash frame?
  12. Whoa, that's a big project, I guess it is possible but you would have to mount the 240z on a well designed jig with reference points, take some very careful measurements of the 240 and compare them to the 2+2 to be sure then drill out all the spot welds... and when it is done you may still end up having to do extra work to match up the fenders to doors. I would be tempted to just remove the parts you need from the 2+2 and stitch them in to the existing 240 body, I think you would end up with less alignment problems. Oh, and welcome to the forum, lots of info and help here. Which ever way you go take lots of pics before and during.

I had one on a L28 for about four years, it worked perfectly, no clearance issues, and because it is a cast unit it is very strong and I think it holds an extra litre of oil.

A guy I know who lives not far from me has been scouring yahoo japan using buyee looking for some nice wheels, this is what he found. They were mislabeled as 14" but are actually 15"x 7", he got them for $500 CDN, of course the shipping costs were horrible. They have no rim rash, no scrapes or damage, couldn't believe it when I saw them.
  15. Music to my eyes!
  16. So what the heck is this, A/C pulley? And where are the wheels, steelies would make it through a fire, there would be 4 blobs if they were aluminum, maybe on jack stands in a garage fire?
  17. The lug nuts look functional.
  18. Gordon Lightfoot, Terry Jacks, Neil Young, Rush and Heart are all Canucks. When Heart was just starting out they played a lot of high school dances, they played my school, Edmonds Junior Secondary in 1974 grade 9, great show. EDIT, sorry, Heart is an American band, they placed so much in the Vancouver BC area I just assumed they were local.

A year and a half ago I was in the same boat, it was all Greek to me, Chickenman and few others helped me through. The thing about MS is that it is capable of so much and many people are fluent in it so it's not that hard to find help when you need it.
  20. Did you borrow the $2000 from the bank or was this more "home cooking"?

I'm an old guy and that is my perspective as well, at some point they are going to use all that information against you. A bit too Orwellian for my taste. The search engine I use is https://duckduckgo.com/ they don't track your browsing.
  23. Have you tried to install a headliner by yourself and make it look good? I never want to do that one again.
  24. Tom Petty anyone?

Beautiful, lots of goodies. You can keep the nose of the car lowered if you turn the wheels full R or L, there is usually enough room to slide the jack in the gap between the tire and the air dam. That must have hurt to cut into good metal for those fender flares, it's a great look and I have thought about it many times but just can't bring myself to do it, no going back. This is stunning, I'll bet that took some patience and a few dollars to assemble, well done.
