Project Boondoggle (or, so I went and bought a Z!)
Doesn't he vacuum bag stick to the surface or do you just sand through it afterwards?

sweatys rebuild
The valve cover is rattle can? It looks fantastic. Licence plate screw hole? Please tell me there is a least jack stands on the front of your car and the parking brake is on, I can't even look at the pic without cringing. Sorry, it's none of my business.

parts pricing
Absolutely, but if the cooling system isn't maintained the stamped steel impeller will wear out faster then the cast iron one. The real problem is that the cooling system is so easy to forget about if it is working properly, if the system is maintained, every 3 yrs drain the coolant, flush the system, fill with fresh coolant then the chances of overheating and prematurely worn out pumps would be very low. But it's a nasty job and easily put off, a drive in the country is much more fun then changing the coolant.

stupid cam question
And the cam journals are staggered in such a way that they go through the cam bearings at the same time so as to leave room once they are through to slightly move the cam to avoid hitting and scratching the cam bearing. Removing and installing a cam is the most potentially dangerous time there as it is SO easy to scratch the bearing surfaces, very hard cam metal, very soft bearing metal. Beers only to be enjoyed after the job.

Thinking about installing an BMW M6 engine in my Z
Well I'm relieved to say that FutoFab's bumpers not only look great but they also fit very well and have the correct metric attachments. I just placed the fenders on with no screws and it all lined up well, Dave Patten the owner is also a good guy to deal with, very professional.

Thinking about installing an BMW M6 engine in my Z
I hope so too! I think I will pull them out of their protective cocoons today and try some test fitting, thanks for the heads up. I have a guy coming to my place with a portable tig unit to seal it up, he was suppose to call this week but nothing yet so I have moved ahead finally and got the engine sitting in the car. Just starting to play with engine mount/tranny mount designs. I have about 1/2" clearance from the top of the engine to the hood which is okay I guess but I would like more, so time to rearrange the furniture again without screwing up the toe in/out. Here is the stock bmw on/off idle control valve that Matt the MS tuner wants me to replace, Here is the new stepper motor version that will replace it, not as sleek looking but it is completely hidden and it works well,

I do like the gas shock hood opener, I am forever forgetting to prop up the hood stay and running back to catch the hood when a gust of wind hits it.

1970 Z432 For Sale - California
Agreed and I have already mentioned it. You deliberately miss the point because it is in your interest to do so. Financially and egotisically you benefit from trying keep the myth and spin alive, you are the last person who can be objective about this subject. As always, enjoy your koolaid

How Do I hate Rebuilt Components? Brake Booster
CO, yes that rust hole goes all the way through, it would have cost me more to ship back then throw it out so I mounted it and it works but I have to have the hose clamp snug up against the face of the booster. I would install modern brake booster at the drop of a hat, wishing you guys luck on your hunt.

Salvage Title Car
If you can prove the car hasn't been in any major collision that resulted in the salvage title, then that title is just paper work. Any good body shop could tell if it has been damaged and repaired. Buying a salvage titled car wouldn't bother me as long as the car wasn't twisted but may turn off other buyers if you are thinking about fixing it up and flipping it. Parting out a restorable car, that's a tough one, I couldn't do it. There is only so many left.

I guess I'm late to the party because I just found out about this site, http://www.hammondsplains.com/z/index.htm Maybe there are others who haven't seen it yet, there is some interesting looking stuff on it and no middle man.

1970 Z432 For Sale - California
The price of what these cars are going for is really not that important, what is important is to cut through the BS and focus on the facts and not the spin. This car in particular suffers from serious spin. Very true about the market.

1970 Z432 For Sale - California
No, I don't recognise it as any more desireable than any other Z, it is rare only because not many were made and that's because it wasn't profitable and it is interesting because it is part of the Z family. It's performance specs were impressive compared to its competition in its racing campaign and compared to the market it was released into. That was then, now it is compared to the other variants of the Z family that were being made at the same time, in that light it doesn't shine so brightly. Compared to its lowly cousin, the NA 240Z it only showed modest performance gains. I'm not making that up, honest. I know that is not the standard dewy eyed party line but there it is. You know the performance numbers of these cars as well as anyone, perhaps better, yet you keep going on about diamond rings, oil paintings and bubble jet printers. The numbers speak for themselves, the reason you won't address those numbers is because they prove my case and not yours. My case is the Z432 is just one of members of the Z family and nothing more. For those who bought their Z432 when the price was reasonable,

How Do I hate Rebuilt Components? Brake Booster
This is a Cardone booster from Rockauto I bought about 3 yrs ago, is was bare metal when it arrived. It seems to work well but if I had seen it before paying I never would have accepted it.

1970 Z432 For Sale - California
Allan, you can blather on all you like about the ephemerals of the 432 and your resort to your predictable and priggish insults but lets talk numbers. The 432 is a rare car, granted and so what? For a 1/4 million bucks you get a $20,000 car and a whole lot of ego. For that money you don't get any special performance or handling, you get the same as a mildly breathed on stock Z. Personally I'm not interested in the Emperor's clothing, you are welcome to his entire wardrobe, I'm interested in what is in his garage. I'm also not interested in how easily a fool and his money is parted, I leave that to you as well. Myself and many other members here would appreciate it if you could simply ague the facts an stop with the petty insults. Mike, as moderator, could you please go back through the last 30-40 posts that Allan has submitted and take note of all the belitting insults he has made to other members including the posts of his that you have deleted?

1970 Z432 For Sale - California
I think the $200k is mostly for the badges, if you look at the numbers for the s20 it's not really a very impressive engine, small displacement, very heavy, something like 440lbs and it only put out 130ftlbs of torque. What's all the fuss about? Nice badges though, worth every penny.

Weber DCOE 45 - Will bolt on velocity stacks work?
I might be mistaken but those look like kind where the venturi, chokes and butterfly are installed from the rear, so if that lip you mention is sticking up into the air flow then it will interrupt the laminar structure of the flow. Now does that mean less power, maybe, probably not but if you can smooth it out you will get the most from the stacks. Those air filters you have won't fit anymore but there are stainless steel mesh caps or foam sock filters that can be used instead.
