  1. Update The Conditions of Sale for my auction clearly state that a deposit of $2000 is required to be paid by Paypal within 48 hrs, winning bidder is now saying he does not use paypal and he wants me to legally sign over ownership of the car to him before he sends any money of any kind. That sounds like bidding in bad faith to me. Makes me very nervous to think someone else will legally own my car before I see a penny. He wants me to sign the ownership over to him and sign the bill of sale BEFORE I even get the deposit. I'm so friggin stressed out right now, I have contacted the 2nd bidder in Denmark and he is fine with a deposit before signatures are put down. What do you guys think? Thanks
  2. That sounds like solid advice, The buyer is in California and has a 98.5 % reputation within the last year. The car will be shipped by one of the large cross border classic car transport companies, but he is organizing that. I don't foresee any problems at this point but a small 'good faith' deposit via paypal is in the conditions that I laid out before the auction. I was just contacted by the 2nd highest bidder in Denmark, the auction ended in the middle of the night there and his automatic bid ran out or he would have topped it up. I'm to contact him if the 1st guy doesn't work out. John, yes I remember your bill of sale for the 72 Z I bought from you, it was very thorough. I'll dig that out and use it as a template. Chris
  3. Guys, I have emailed the auction winner a pdf of the title to the car, he is suggesting that on Monday he will draw up a bill of sale that we will both sign then he will wire transfer the money into my account. Does that sound like the way these things are done? I have never sold a car long distance before.
  4. $19,464.00 final bid, which is about $23,400.00 in my money, I'm happy. Thanks for all the support. Chris
  5. Oh, I don't know about that, this year will be my first Zcon but I have seen pics from other ones and those cars are jaw dropping in the their detail.
  6. I saw that, "be careful" he said. As a fellow rider we all know just how vulnerable we are out there regardless of how much you paid for your gear. Riding Death Valley has been on my bucket list for a long time too.
  7. 12 hrs to go, I'm pumped! Seems like it is down to 2 guys now, I have communicated with both several times and they are both good guys with no fooling around, either one would be an excellent new owner. If the car doesn't go up one more penny I'll be fine with it, I've made back my costs,(that's a first) and I'll have enough now for the next Z build.

I think this was a multi generational traveling family, Z gypsyies. That is todays job, I'm pulling the heater box this morning.

Beautiful work, they look very comfortable. I bought Interior Innovations leather interior kit (everything but the seat covers), the quality is first class and I'm very pleased with it but I received almost no communication from them. A week after I placed the order and paid for the kit I had heard nothing from them, I emailed them to see if to see if everything was ok, they replied that they received payment and the kit would ship soon. That was it. 2-3 wks later the kit showed up in the mail. Not really complaining, just very different from your experience from yours. A lot of after market leather interiors use garment leather(thin) to keep costs down, I was very happy to see proper thick upholstery leather was used for everything. Chris

The 72 Z that I have just started tearing down has been in storage for about 20 yrs I think, you can smell the the mouse pee from a several feet away even though the doors have been off for months now. I removed the dash yesterday and found one of the many generations of Z enthusiasts that have inhabited the car in that time, say hello With the nest removed here's what their pee did,
  12. You're too hard on yourself, those look awesome, there is a real depth to the look of the vinyl covered panels compared to uncovered panels, it's almost a soft look. Besides you have them out in the light and fully exposed, once they are mounted back in the car you would have to look pretty hard to see those flaws. I'm kinda wishing I hadn't ordered the SEM paint now.

This is the worst, John had so much knowledge. When I first came to this forum I picked up pretty quickly that if John Coffey said it, you could take it to the bank. Big loss.
  14. There was a trick the owners of BMW 635csi cars would use when in the late 80's the bumpers became diving boards, they would move the car so that the bumper was just touching a wall or telephone pole then put the car in gear and push the bumper in as far as it would go then apply the parking brake. With the bumper in the collapsed position you would drill through the outer sleeve then through shock shaft beneath it, drop in a bolt and you were done. I don't know if this would work for a 280 but I thought I would mention it.
  15. Open the hood, just in front and below the battery you will see the wiring harness mounted on the frame rail. Between the battery and the shock tower there will be a group of 4-5 wires coming out of the harness and attach to the wheel well just above the harness, that is one of the main grounding points, there are others but that is the big one I think. Chris
  16. BaT sure did raise the view count on the ebay listing, that was nice of them.
  17. John, the glass is half full, fight it. Good luck

and I guess when these floors were done, Charlie hadn't started making his Zeddfindings floor pans yet, so it was use floors from another Z or see if Nissan was selling them.
  19. Have a look at this thread, went to search and typed in 'halfshafts'

my car is 01955 and it doesn't have those little braces so I doubt #72 would have it either. From the pics that GeoJoe posted on the OntZCar forum you can see what could be a weld line running the length of the transmission tunnel, so could just be floor pans cut out of a later car.

Here is the Canadian conversation on this car, http://www.ontariozcar.com/ozc/forum/forums/buy-sell/50089-240z-ready-for-restoration Geojoe is the only guy who can solve this mess, he's owned it for 33 yrs and has been unaware of the #72 on the firewall, I doubt there is any fraud going on here, at least not by Joe. Sounds to me like the PO owned #60, it got smacked up or rusted out or whatever, PO picked up #72 and transferred everything of worth from #60 over to #72 and he didn't mention it to his insurance co. or the Motor Vehicles Dept., then he sold it to Geojoe in 1983. Joe needs to get Banzai to make up new data plates and dash tag with #72 on them, then with pics of the firewall and engine serial # go to the Motor Vehicle Dept, explain the situation and get a a new ownership forum issued with #72 as the VIN. Carl Beck knows about this car now so there is no way of covering anything up now, it will just add a little spice and flavor to the car history. The only fly in the ointment that I can see are those little braces behind the rear seat mounts, I'm pretty sure that Nissan didn't start putting those in until late 1971 so... a third car is involved or maybe just it's floor pans, the plot thickens. Hope nobody minds me posting this on Bender's forum. Got a car up for auction, http://www.ebay.com/itm/Datsun-Z-Series-/201565818749?forcerrptr=true&hash=item2eee424f7d:g:HggAAOSwYmZXGAK5&item=201565818749 Thanks, Chris
  23. The other Z is almost sold and then it is full speed ahead on this build. Picked up some new bearings and stub axle clip rings for the OBX, got as much done as I could then took it up to the Differential shop to have them install the OBX unit in the R200 and adjust the free play, very pleased with the wipe pattern. I'll tuck it away on the shelf now ready for installation, hopefully it will be a quite unit.

The shop is now warm enough to to fiberglass, the CA glue stiffened the panels up quite a bit so I only used one sheet of glass mat for the job, 2nd pic is the wax paper over the door used as a mold, 4th pic you can see I glassed up to with in an inch and a half of the edge so when the leather edge wraps around it will be easier to glue and staple.
  25. Clay, here you go,
