Gas tank rubber pads
Sorry about my wrong measurements, I was going off of 240 pads, just noticed you have a 280. Chris

Gas tank rubber pads
Those pads are 1/4-3/8" thick, you could try and auto or marine upholsterer.

Some dense closed cell foam will do the job in a pinch.

1972 FSM
My local Kinko's got very sticky with me when I tried to photo copy an out of print service manual, I don't know if that is a store policy or just the guy who runs it.

Not the prettiest welds I've ever done (I hate weld through primer) but it's strong and it will drop the steering rack away from the bottom of the oil pan and give me some room to line up the drive shaft better.

The Z is finally completed ?
I love a rusty challenge but I think I would have walked away from that one, sure glad you didn't! You have made some interesting choices and saved it from the wreckers, good man. Chris

Transmission mount
This is the transmission mount for a /72 4spd, is this the same mount that was used on the ZX cars? I know the ZX 5spd will fit on this mount, I just heard the ZX mounts were different and if anyone had a pic of it. Thanks, Chris

1973 Rebuild
You are going to be hard pressed to lose that kind of weight from a 73 unless you strip out the interior, the bumpers and become a vegan. The power is doable as long as you don't mind pulling the L24 or throwing all kinds of money at it.

Spindle pin removal tool survey
Even though I did this job a couple of years ago I was trying to picture it in my head and then remembered I have all these parts on hand, so for anyone else having trouble seeing this in their head. Outer surface of this bushing is friction fit inside of the rear control arm, inner sleeve of the bushing being longer is sandwiched between hub/strut housing and the spindle pin nut, wedge pin holding the spindle in in place until final torqueing. What you need are the micro fiber cloths, they leave no lint and hold a lot of whatever liquid you are using. I cut them up into 1.5"x1.5" patches for doing touch of paint when I don't want to mask and spray. Old T-shirts work well too but will leave fibers in the paint sometimes.

Raff, would a used 72 exhaust manifold help? I have one and the those tubes seem to be in pretty good condition, yours for the asking. How is that Sharkhide working out? Chris

LED vs Halogen
When they can make an LED or HID that doesn't blind on coming drivers then I'll consider them. Hands up, anyone not been blinded by these toys?

Thinking about installing an BMW M6 engine in my Z
I thought I would be taking measurements for the engine mounts but I'm a long way from that, there are a few of interferences that I'll have to get rid of first. The sway bar will be easy, just drop it down 1/2" with spacers, I'll have to shave a bit off the side of the D/S engine mount to clear the oil filter, the P/S floor pan will have to be notched out to clear the exhaust pipes and a heat shield of some kind will be needed to protect the P/S engine bay and wiring harness. The driveshaft angle looks like it might cause some headaches but atleast I have three u joints to spread out the differences. There are definitely easier bmw engines to swap in than this one and if I run into too many more issues I may have to re-think things. I don't want to compromise the Z or driveability, but I am a long way from giving up. Chris

Now, in this first pic, if I squint my eyes a bit I can almost imagine that all the work is done and the car is finished. Everything fits under the hood but it is still pretty tight around the steering rack, I may still have to cut up the crossmember and drop that steering rack another 3/4". Thanks rossiz
