Mike, any chance you can take some measurements and some pics while you have it off? I need to make one for my car Thanks, Chris

Rack and pinion U-bolt clamp ? 71Z
I have an early z and there was no trace of this U bolt clamp bumper on mine. What was the point of it? It looks like the bumper would rest against the bottom of the oil pan but why, wouldn't the pinion gear keep the rack from rotating?

Contrasting headlight bucket?
Blue, I'm going to suggest something really low tech, go to the office supply store where they sell all kinds of different colours of construction paper, remove the headlight cover, cut the construction paper to fit the curve and re-install the cover. It will give you a good idea of the finished product. Also, you could try the adhesive vinyl that is used on the side of trucks for advertising, test fit with the paper on the back then stick down if you like it. If you ever decide to change it it just peels up.

Contrasting headlight bucket?
I haven't seen it but black might look very interesting, kind of like a sub opening it's torpedo hatchs. How about photoshop?

SK racing carbs
So here are mine, the air jet looks like your second photo so I guess that is a Mikuni style of jet, but my idle jet holder is just slotted like on the blown up parts diagram and not like yours. I'm pretty sure my carbs were purchased in 1999 new from OER.

Dents and Dry Ice
It can't hurt to be cautious. I've heard also that newer paint cures very fast but is there a rush? Dry ice and a heat gun is about as hard a test as you can put paint through. Good luck

1970 Gear Shift Knob
Bart, you can certainly order a shift knob from Nissan but they are not the same as the original, the new ones are fatter, more rounded. The original is quite slim. There was a thread about shift knobs going last winter and it covered everything. Here it is,http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/help-me/47482-5-speed-knob-reproduction.html

Final Drive - Done For The Season
Mine has been like this for a while now, the covers and cardboard is to keep the cats claws from getting near the paint. Just rebuilt the car last winter but time for some tweaks to the suspension, brakes, tranny and a new sound system.

Air Horn Filters
Hey, I'm hoping they are good too, I haven't had a chance to start up the engine with them yet, but they do breathe well. As I said before, I'm going to oil them first regardless of the treatment that Ramair has done. I'm not up on all the new stuff out there but it seems to me that they may have sprayed them with some kind of static spray that attracts dust, oil I know and oil I trust. Chris

Buildinga sound system for the Z, am I going in the right direction?
Well as it turns out, Ctutchfield won't sell me anything because I live in Canada, I went to crutchfield.ca and they don't sell the speakers I want. So much for free trade eh? Same story with amazon.com My last resort was ebay and I found both sets of the exact same speakers for $99 a piece. I should have them in about 10 days.

Buildinga sound system for the Z, am I going in the right direction?
Walter, I know Crutchfield is a little more expensive but I think they are worth it and some of these fly by night Amazon companies don't sound very trustworthy. KTM, that's a good point about 6x9 vs 6.5 dia.,I had forgotten that it was a compromise design. I've been reading a lot of good reviews of Infinity's KAPPA series and think I might go that way, Infinity Kappa 52.11i 5-1/4" 2-way car speakers at Crutchfield.com Infinity Kappa 62.11i 6-3/4" 2-way car speakers ? also fit 6-1/2" openings at Crutchfield.com

Buildinga sound system for the Z, am I going in the right direction?
I have installed new speakers and head units in other cars I have owned with varying degrees of success in sound quality, so with the Z I thought I would put a little more thought into it. I'm not an audiophile, I can't afford to be This is what I've done and what I'm thinking of buying, The Z is well baffled, LizardSkin type coating on the all interior surfaces, covered with MuderMat then 1/2" thick quality underlay. It's pretty snug and quiet. I have this amp already that has been sitting on the shelf for a few years, Clarion U.S.A. | APX4360 I'm thinking about these 5.25" speakers for the kick panels, Infinity Reference X REF-5002ix 5-1/4" 2-way car speakers at Crutchfield.com and these 6x9's for the back installed into custom boxes still to be built, Infinity Reference X REF-9602ix 6"x9" 2-way car speakers at Crutchfield.com Thanks, Chris I thought I would hold off on a subwoofer to see what the 6x9's do first and if a sub is needed then pick up one of those flat powered subwoofers that slide under the seat, Sound Ordnance B-8PTD 125-watt compact powered subwoofer at Crutchfield.com

Air Horn Filters
Travel n man, these filters will work for 40 or 45 DCOE, the holes on the back are about 1" dia and do fit tightly around the base of the horn. Below is a pic with the lens of the camera stuck inside the filter looking up a florescent light and you can see a bit of light. There are two layers that make up the filter, dark grey is fairly coarse and the lighter grey much denser and similar to the UNI standard foam next to it. I emailed Ramair and they assured me that the foam has been treated but will need oiling after cleaning, I think I'm going to oil it anyway.

Air Horn Filters
Just got my new RAMAIR filters from England so here they are, Because the horn flare is so wide, 87mm I have to install the horns into the foam sock first then bolt to the carb body. I guess it looks okay, I was hoping for some of the horn showing but clean air is more important to me. Ramair says the filter socks are ready to use and are treated but I can not feel any oil of any kind on them. I rubbed them against glass and could see no film or smear. They feel like clean new foam, is there some kind of spray that is used now to attract dust? I am tempted to treat them with the UNI filter oil I have, anyone have any advice? And for no reason other then I think you guys will appreciate it I include a pic I found that I just think is beautiful, JDM Fairlady I think with motorcycle carbs, an honest engine bay, not too fussy, no bling but all business, simple and clean. Great shock tower brace.

SK racing carbs
Well that's interesting, it would be good know when that change took place. Any chance you could post some pics of your jet towers and the rest of us could do the same? But then SK may have just changed the Dia. of the hole and thread size and not changed the outer appearance, worth I try. Chris

Air Horn Filters
For some reason I can't bring up ebay at the moment but Weber 40 DCOE can mean only one thing, I'll post detailed pics when they arrive.

Air Horn Filters
Koalia, from what I gather, the two cut out holes on the back of the filters are fairly small so you get a good seal and the entire piece is light and stiff so there shouldn't be a lot of movement. The air horns should also limit up/down movement. I purchased a set of 3 online as well, post some pics when they arrive and I'll do the same. Chris

Air Horn Filters
Yeah, I have been looking at those for a while, this is the CAI box I would really like to get, As far as I can tell these air boxes were made in Japan for their market and NA never got them. Very slick looking. But in any case I would have to cut down my present air horns so they would fit so I think I'll try and build one out of filter foam first and see how that works before I spent the big money. Thanks, Chris

Air Horn Filters
Jim, I thought those would work too until I saw the 3.25" is the O.D., there made for 2" wide stacks. Micthell, I forgot about ITG, they have some very nice stuff. I have sent an inquiry about their JCS 12. Thanks, Chris

Air Horn Filters
Jim, good thread there on Hybridz, it's got me leaning away from screens. Found theses, Clamp-On | Uni Filter might be a little tight. and, https://www.pegasusautoracing.com/productdetails.asp?RecID=8877 or this and make up my own as Blue suggested.

Air Horn Filters
I would have to find the same kind of foam they use for air filters so that sticky oil would work properly, a good option. There is about a 1mm lip on the barrel sleeve that needs to come off, a couple of seconds with the dremel and some emery paper and almost a perfect match.
