  1. Where I live that's called pristine, very nice.
  2. You can take off the back cover and check the the wipe pattern gears, clean all the old muck out and listen while you spin it, should be fairly quite. I took mine to a transmission/Diff shop and asked them to check it out.
  3. Now that's a hook up.
  4. Philip, I don't know about that, I would argue that all of the oil goes through the filter so that is the place to put your rare earth magnet, big particles are going to fall to the bottom of the pan anyway. When I cut open a used filter that I have had a magnet on there is always a black paste of metal particles, now the paper membrane of the filter might have caught them all but maybe not. But you really have to make sure that the magnet can NOT come off the filter before the filter change, you can imagine this big charge of steel powder hitting the pleats all at once, some of it is going to get through.
  5. I did go with the stage 3 Center Force unit and it was complete overkill, the stock clutch would have been more than adequate, I know now.
  6. Nice, the steel plate he has use appears to be about the same dimensions as the stock transverse brace except the thickness of course, I guess he has made the upright braces longer to compensate for that. I just noticed how the rear sway bar is attached so those uprights are custom. I would start making some templates based on the stock parts and cut away or add until you have something that fits your needs. Looks like a fun project.
  7. I think our oil pressure gauges are the real problem, they are very slow to respond to a change in pressure and it seems always read lower than what the oil pump is actually producing. My first Z did the lazy needle thing so I set up a temporary modern pressure sensor and gauge in the engine bay just to reassure myself that everything was good, it was.
  8. I thought about bidding on your car too but the shipping costs killed it for me, you got a good deal I think especially if you are going to do the work yourself. So bone stock or modded ? Looking forward to your pics.
  9. 18lbs isn't really that light, maybe for our flywheels but 11-12lbs is usually considered a lightened flywheel. Just shift faster☺️
  10. He's going to get a good penny for that, it really doesn't need restoring, just the battery tray and maybe new D/S seat foam and covers.
  11. Are you going to try and restore with new chrome plating and paint? I have never tried to re chrome the pot metal but have had some success with Testors paint and a tiny brush.

Maybe a stuck ring loosened up and started sealing again.

I couldn't bring it up with that link but I think this one will do it. https://vintagetechnologygarage.groups.io/g/cars

That job would have been perfect for Mig silicon bronze wire, low heat and an easy grind.

I ordered new door seals from MSA about this time last year and they fit perfectly, good right out of the bag. Welcome back Sweaty.
  18. I've never seen a Z where the only rust it had was on the rails, if the rails are rotten you can be pretty sure there is more rust than that to deal with. If you can do the repairs yourself you can save a lot, if paying someone to do the work for you then it gets expensive quickly.

I would definitely buy a 280z now while they are still relatively cheap, hold on to it, work on it and dream. Get yourself a few years of driving experience under your belt using the Toyota. Good luck
  20. Exactly, pay their fees.
  21. Just heard about this guy, https://datsunrestomods.com/collections/all

I just couldn't think of a way to build a booth in my garage and have any room to move so I blew the place as well as I could, draped everything and soaked the floor down and it turned out pretty well. Some trash but nothing a nib file couldn't handle.
  24. I'm missing something, why is there so much slack on the tensioner? That looks like a new chain, ideally you should not see the plunger at all.
  25. It kind of looks like the shepards hook has been welded to the linkage, maybe they wanted to eliminate the slop.
