  1. I would grab that N42/N42 engine while you still can, a spare is always a good idea but these days with prices going it will also be an investment.
  2. Is there a story attached to the oil cap?
  3. Are those your Tig welds? Very pretty.

I'm not 100% sure but I think the early cars had a fork on the top of the shock.

No they are correct, one shock on the 240.

Oh well, the dash is installed now and everything is working.
  7. $21,000 estimated value, I love these guys.

The Tokico on the bottom is too long, the middle one should accept the hardware from the top shock, the middle one will work perfectly but will not be "correct", the top one looks correct but probably doesn't work very well.

what is not correct about it? ZH, are you agreeing with Frankenstein or correcting him? It all fits nicely behind the dash and all the vents work the way they should.
  10. That's not normal, as you said, the seal should be able to hold the weight of the valve.

Yes I replaced all connectors except the one lead temp sensor which was in good shape. I wasn't sitting in the car at the time so couldn't see the dash tach, I was using a remote tach clipped to the #1 spark plug wire. I have a GM HEI on the shelf but could never get it to work on the /70 240z.

    What test would you suggest?

So put the fuel pressure gauge back on between the filter and regulator and all is good, 35psi, pulled the plugs and they were still wet from yesterday, blew lots of gasoline vapour out of the cylinders, the plugs looked pretty good so cleaned them and re installed. Turned the key and the engine started right up and settled down to an 800 rpm idle just like where I set it a couple of weeks ago. All is good with the world. I guess I blipped the throttle too many times and flooded it yesterday, not sure why the rpms went so low but it is not doing it now. The spark plugs only have an 1.5 - 2hrs on them and there is a dark streak on one side of the insulator, can't say I've seen this before.

Just put 6 gal. fresh gas in the tank before I started it up, tank was cleaned and sealed, new fuel filter, new air filter. Will re install fuel pressure gauge this afternoon and check plugs for fouling.
  16. Kats, that may be true of guys from our generation but the younger guys I see at car shows are JDM crazy and when they get a chance to look over a 240z in person they really appreciate it, left hand drive JDM cars always have a crowd of young guys around them. There is hope yet.
  17. Did you notice the those side louvers are from the hood of a 280z? Keeping it all Nissan.
  18. I once "borrowed" a box of black hair dye to freshen up a set of cargo straps for a 240z, never heard a word about it, couldn't be me my hair hasn't been black for years. The cargo straps looked fantastic.
  19. @Zed Head, as much as I like the RT mount I'm still impressed with the simplicity of the mount you made.

So the engine has been running well, I've been starting it every now and then to check for exhaust leaks, coolant leaks and such. Today I got the D/S seat installed and started the engine to take it for the first drive, the engine started fine, ran for about 30 sec with the rpms roaming and then the rpms got lower and lower, I blipped the throttle and it momentarily reved up but went back down until it died. It started up again just fine but did the same routine and died within 10 sec, now it won't catch at all. Spark is good, fuel pump is on when I push the AFM door a bit, sound like anything specific? I haven't put the EFI bible away yet, guess I'll start at the beginging and YES the ECU is plugged in this time.
  21. @lonetreesteve, you missed the best/worst pic, The seller says " Easy enough to restore it to its original shape" f
  22. And this is for @Captain Obvious, thanks buddy.
  23. Much respect.
  24. Some big progress today, bumpers on, dash in, emblems on. Just have to pick up a fresh battery tomorrow, throw the drivers seat in and take it out for a drive! In case anyone is interested the total weight of all the bumper parts comes to 80lbs.
