Concerning Engine Serial Numbers
The 280z didnt have the engine serial number on the ID plate. I dont know when they stopped doing that. My engine number is also different. I know it has original miles 157000 because of the service records. Its once around the clock. Not sure if the engine is original. Engine has L28-176692. Car HLS30403100. 05/1977. Chas

240z rebuild / restoration right down to the shell
Hi Chris, I suppose at the rate you are going you will be driving it in a couple of days The colour is awesome. It gives it that classic look. Exactly what it is. Can't believe how quick the rebuild is going. Its really mind boggling. Oh and good to see Ted back keeping an eye on things.

E88 Head from a 260Z will it fit my L24 block?
With unleaded fuel, valve seat failure was common with engines running often at wide open throttle or above 4000 rpm. Lead in the fuel provided exhaust valve seat lubrication and excellent heat transfer from the hot exhaust valve to the seat in the head and to the coolant system. There are several methods used to fix the problem, including hardened valve seats, valve rotators, and sodium filled valves to transfer the heat. The hardened valve seats became a cost effective compromise and was adapted by most if not all of the manufacturers.

Valve stem seals and burning oil
After sitting for six months I would drive it a while and check the plugs again. A way to test valve stem seals is to coast down a long hill, foot off the throttle and then full throttle. That way the cylinders have high vacuum and suck the oil in through the valve stem seals. If you get a big puff of blue smoke thats an indication the valve stems are leaking oil. PCV's can also be a source of oil. You can check the PCV hose to see if its wet with oil.

E88 Head from a 260Z will it fit my L24 block?
I have not heard of any E88 head with the steel seats standard from the factory. They all came with silicon/bronze seats, but we commonly call them brass seats due to the colour.

240z Inspection Light Source?
I will try to experiment with some white paint. It would be better to spray the inner part of the mould and let the resin bond to it. It would need to be a very light coat though and getting it even may be a challenge. White dye in the resin is also an option.

240z Inspection Light Source?
Here are some photos of the lens I moulded out of PU resin. I was a little impatient and removed it before it fully cured, but it came out very close to original shape and size.

Parts for OEM NP-Valve and Brake indicator switch unit
Hi all, Finished rebuilding my brake switch. Luckely the bore was not too bad and cleaned up nicely with 500 and then 1000grit wet&dry. Made a hone out of a BIC pen by cutting a slot in it and using a 10mm strips of wet&dry. 280Z Brake Switch: (The sizes are ID x Cross section. The material is EPDM) The shuttle has two O-rings. 1x 6.07x1.78mm. AS010 1x 4.90x1.90mm. R4 The brake switch has an O-ring seal 1x 10.82x1.78mm. AS013 Proportioning Valve: Not much luck on finding any replacement parts for it. I did find some cups that fitted, but the brake workshop didnt know which old car they came from. He just had a box of loose ends he kept out the back. He said, If I could find anything I could keep it. Chas

240z Inspection Light Source?
I managed to buy one from my local Nissan dealer in December. He had a lot of trouble finding it. I moulded a lens for my old inspection light to see how it would look. Its clear and doesnt have the milky original look, but its also a good alternative if the rest of the light is servicable.

Quick Question
Mine doesnt have any gasket between the MC and booster. I can not find one in the E-Fast database. The booster has a rubber seal that is held in place by a thin metal star washer. Its part of the booster assembly.

E88 Head from a 260Z will it fit my L24 block?
Arne is right. The exhaust valve wont be a problem. The L24 and the L26 had the same 83mm bore size. The head will lower your comp ratio a bit. If its the last E88 head, they had a combustion chamber size 47.8cc. If you had an E31 with 42.7cc it will drop the comp ratio from 9.1:1 down to 8.5:1 if you run it with a 1mm headgasket. You could notice that, depends on your driving style. You can calculate it using this website. Note the E88 data is for an Australian head so you need to correct the combustion chamber to 47.8cc to suite the emmision design. Engine Design Utility Chas

Just a quick question, where did you get the Xenon air dam? I see them in The Z store, but reluctant to buy it because the chance it will get damaged getting it over here. I have been trying to find a European dealer with no luck. That is a treasure trove of stuff you got from the PO. The cat weed seeds is definitely the bonusLOL Thanks chas

IPOD connection into 1972 240z ...Anybody tried ?
I had a sender unit that transmitted a radio frequentie. You could then turn the radio into that frequency. It pluged into the sony W800i walkman phone and worked great until the phone died. That way I could keep the original radio. Check out this video on YouTube: Chas
