Hey thanx, Well that makes 2 aftermarket parts that seem to be Japanese market only. Any clue how rare these wheels might be? They're stayin on the car, don't feel right to put anything else on. Also, did the japanese cars swap up the turn signals like they did in America? its a 77 and i'm wondering if it was modded to put the front spoiler on(the other jdm part i spoke of). Has "EVA DATSUN Z" molded in in reverse lettering across it. Only other time i've seen that spoiler is in a pic...i think Alan posted it in a previous post i had asking about it. Now I just need to know where to pick up a tail light assembly w/ the amber turn signal lens and identify what year bumpers those are and i'm in business.

  8. Yeah, this stuff is expensive. I had an idea about get some amber material used for that stuff and just cutting to fit. Other than the turn signal lens the tailights are identical. Would that be completely stupid? Also was hoping to find someplace kinda local, or at least somewhere in the Southeast that could do a good job on the dash. I really got no problem with sending to Dashboard Restorations. it'd just be less hassle if i could get it done stateside ya know. Ah well, gotta pay ta play. Take it easy ppl, DAVIS
  9. Hey thanks for the info guys. The whole deal with the "euro" lights came from i think zedd findings. They said they could get me one for like $275. Anyway, how much would it cost for Dashboard Restorations to do my dash? shipping where i'm fairly concerned, I live in NC on the east coast. Probably gonna have to send my console too. Alan, good to hear from the Z historian again. and YES, that is the airdam on my car. Glad to finally see that thing some where else (now just gotta find Pics of my wheels so i can figure what the hell they are). I really appreciate the input guys. Now, i just gotta get the hell outta Afganistan so i can actually lay into this thing. (not to mention i REALLY REALLY miss driving). But I'd say havin at least $9-10Gs to spend on the car makes up for all of it. Take it easy back there in civilization everyone, DAVIS
  10. I am currently restoring a 77 Datsun Fairlady Z in North Carolina. This is a RHD 2+2 that has been heavily modified and apparently left for dead at a junk yard. The car has a turbo hood scoop grafted into the original hood, 240z front turn signals for the front air dam, both front and rear spoilers and N42 block and head w/ cam(unknown spec) triple mikunis and a 6-1 header with free flowing exhaust. I have 3 questions about the restoration. 1.)Are the Euro and Jap style taillights the same? the car was hit in rear and one light replaced with an all red light other side has amber turn signal. 2.) The dash on this car is cracked all to hell. Would I be better off Getting a dash imported somehow or just have it completely stripped down and repadded by an interior shop when i have the rest of the interior redone? 3.) Just out of curiosity, has anyone ever seen a 240 spoiler with words "EVA DATSUN Z" molded into it in reverse lettering(ambulance style)? I have this on the car but i have never seen it before. I would appreciate any help you guys could give me. thanx DAVIS

I'll post some pics as soon as i can find someone w/a digital camera. All i got these days is my trusty ol laptop. Need ya'll to help me identify the wheels on her anyway. Gray looking w/ a tapered x design into a dish along the inside. Haven't found em on the net yet, but haven't been looking to hard either. I guess i lucked up. There's a place about a 2 miles of post that deals exclusively w/ old imports. They're gonna fix that hiccup in the rear carb and give a crash course on tune mikunis. Also need to find a tranny. 2nd gear synchro gone on this one. I can upshift into gear, but i can't even double clutch or float it in on the downshift. Got a place that'll install a fully built one w/ long term garentee for 550. Think i should go w/ it or just find one myself and install it? I have swapped a coupla trannys on my Bird, so i can do it. Anywho, Its great to finally have the car. Gonna spend the next 6mo-1yr or so restoring the body and interior, probably gonna go through the suspension w/ poly and coilovers too. This is gonna be a good learning experience, plus i'm gonna have something to show for myself insteada pissin' all my money away junk. :classic: Nice little thick momo steering wheel in the car. 3 spoke w/ a sig. on the bottom one, can't tell the name though. God a good steering wheel makes a world of difference on a car.

Well, I picked up the car tonight. Definitly different than anything else i've ever driven. Should be a fun(one way or the other). got to talk to the body shop about getting to work on it. But there's a coupla mechanical gremlins i wanna sort out first. She's a 77 Fairlady Z, RHD, w/ a front and rear spoiler on her. got turbo hood on it(factory decal w/ japanese lettering on the inside). And that inlet is sittin' right over the carbs. engine is an L28 w/ N42 head, triple mikunis, no air cleaners, electric fuel pump, 6-1 header, 2 1/4 exhaust w/o cat:classic: . And(as it seems to be somewhat of a tradition w/ every car i buy) the a/c's been yanked. unknown internal modifications, the head looks alot cleaner than anything else under the hood(makes ya wonder). This thing reminds me of the ol' Bird back home. A few electrical gremlins to sort out and somewhat unresponsive brakes(the bird wouldn't stop on a 2 mile stretch till the whole system got gone through by a pro). And JEEZ that steering is tight. After muscling that thing around in some parking lots i got back in my Nissan 240sx and accidently powerslammed the wheel getting ready to back out of spot. Now my once tight handling 240 feels like my parents old pickup w/ 2 in. of play in the steering. sheesh Anyway, the main thing i need to know is how to get rid of the backfire in the rear carb. its a constant hiccup and only in the rear carb. I know nothing about sidedraft carbs so i'm gonna need major help here. Everything else is kinda old hat from the days i spent w/ the Bird. So i can wing that stuff on my own. Probably gonna need a tranny too. She don't wanna downshift into 2nd. and she don't upshift into it till she's nice and warm. I'm glad i got her though. Something to keep me busy for the next 3 years(till i'm outta the service). Just gotta overcome that RHD Vertigo(its frikkin' weird over on that side of the car):classic:
  13. Well, saw the guy about the car today. He's definitly alot nicer guy to talk to in person. Seems pretty cool, definitly likes to fiddle w/ cars. My buddy at the shop got too busy to break and look at it today, but i got look at it. The frame rails under the hood don't have any rust on them. the only it really needs is some surface rust repaired around the doors and a new floor pan on the drivers side. The admits to not really knowing anything about the engine. But he's gonna try and get the address of the guy he bought it from. Apparently that is the guy who brought it over and did all the mods. Its an L28 block and the carbs are Mikunis, not Webers. The rear one seems to backfire a little but other than that the engine runs sweet. That thing moves too, took her for and test drive and she screams. I don't know which head it has though. I forgot where to look and the only mark i found was an "E" close to center on the drivers side. Cars got a header and exhaust on it already too. tip looks like a copper color. I guess i'm gonna get the car. Seems like its not gonna be TOO much trouble. Couldn't get the guy to come down on the price though. Too close to tax time, and all little ricers nuts'll be swarmin'. And the VIN# is GS31~003232
  14. I appreciate all the warnings you guys have given me. And just to put everyones mind to rest I AM having a friend at body shop going to thoroughly inspect the car Sunday. If its running good and the body is salvagable at a decent price i'll be purchasing it. Ben- i don't know about the ignition, but i do know that there's no air cleaners on the webers. Beandip- In past experience at least, most ppl back home'll build the engine, keep it running good, race it till the body falls apart on em and swap it to another body. A lot of the time i've a good a car with mechanicals in decent shape in a body thats been thrashed. Don't know about this one though, but i'll know for sure by next week
  15. Hey Zoom, I don't worry about emissions and crap anyway. All my cars are registered back home in Alabama. NO emissions testing or inspections. You wouldn't believe how many of my old redneck buddies cut off their cats, gut em out, and either have glasspacks, cherry bombs, or straight pipes and run around all day long with em. My bird has true duals no cats and glasspacks. with an edelbrock intake minus the smog crap and it used to have a holley double pumper on it. One plus about livin' in hickville, you can do damn near anything you want to your ride and nobody gives a damn to hassle you about it.
  16. I know the stock internals are stout on these cars, i just meant things like head work, cam, ect. Like i said, i guess i'll find out once that guy gets out there and actually cranks the thing up. This guy's convinced it was built for racing for a European family, but considerin' it's near Ft. Bragg theres no tellin' where it came from. and that airdam has the lettering molded into it. "EVA DATSUN Z" in reverse lettering like on an ambulance, so it reads right if you see it through a rear view mirror. Its got wheel in this sorta cross or tapered x design, i completely forgot to check the size on it. It has full interior, ac controls, and radio, there's 3 switches down where the console meets the dash that poke up outta the console strangely. and also a small panel added to the bottom of the dash between the steering wheel and the door, there's supposed to 2 things in there for sure but theres a hole where it looks like one was removed. I'm guessin' another switch or button or something. speedo reads 180kph. and the dash clock was still runnin too(Frikkin' wish half the gauges worked on my T/A. you'll never find a second gen w/ the tic-toc-tach still in full working order)
  17. the more i think about it the more i wonder whats under the hood. I'm a speed freak so i'd end up building the thing as powerful as i could on pump gas. I've got to find out what else is in that thing. I mean, here's an imported fairlady with a 2.8L swapped in that's also been converted to triple webbers. Me thinks with that much done already plus going to the trouble to bring it over to the US there should be alot more in the guts of that engine. Could just be my wishful thinking though. Guess i'll find out Sunday. *Sigh*
  18. Well, went and had another look at the car today. Passenger side frame rail and floorpan look straight. Drivers side frame rail has some surface rust but doesn't look too bad. Floor pans a write off though. Hole about half the size of my fist through it. Got a guy from the body shop goin' w/ me to look at it Sunday morning. One thing though....I thought these cars were unibody construction like my T/A, but the frame rails on this car run the full length of the floor pans. It may just be my ignorance but this confuses me. And as for gettin' hitched, I'm only 20 and thats gonna be along way down the road. Besides as stubborn as i am i'm gonna hafta find a girl who can at least tolerate my hobby (obsession?) or it'll never work anyway. Gawd, some of my oldest friends can't even stand me when i'm in high gear. :classic:
  19. Yeah i know what your saying. I'm tryin' to get one of the guys to go with me to come look at it with me but i'm having a tough time of it. I got up under the car and looked behind the front tires. the fender wells don't LOOK too bad. the frame rails have a couple of small dings in them but doesn't appear to much rust damage, except for the drivers side floor pan. I think its gonna come down to how she runs once he gets out there w/ the keys. If i can talk him down some more i could get some of my money back by parting it out if it turns out to be a bust. Its like a little Fast andthe Furious deal goin on around FT. Bragg so i doubt i'd have much trouble selling anything RHD. Freakin' import nuts. :classic: I was actually looking for 91-93 240sx hatchback to drop a CA18DET into. Mod it up and get into Drifting or Roadracing/Autocross. But i've found this thing now and the heavy metal nut in me is drooling. Figure in the long run i'd end up spending as much going j-spec 180sx as i would restoring that Fairlady. by the end of March(which is when i'll actually be able to work on something) i'll have about $4-5K for a project. Damn, the more i think about it the more i realize i'm stockpiling cars for future projects when i get outta the service and actually have money. First car: 78 bandit trans am- built 400 3.73 posi rear, 10mpg on the interstate. Second car: 88 fiero w/ ferrari body panels, future LT1 5speed conversion the Truck: 69 chevy custom10, been sittin the backyard since i was 13, won't let parents sell. Currently in 97 240sx. the reliable one while i'm in the service, SR20 candidate once i'm out.
  20. I don't know much about the car. Its at this little car repair/scrapyard. one of the guys there is selling it. The dude's a real jerk and i'm having a hard time getting answers out of him. I've only talked to him over the phone and need to get him down there with the keys so i can test drive it. According to the guys at that shop its been there for about 6 months. one of the guys there rebuilt the carbs and he says that Eva place supposedly did that to all their cars. Nobody there really knows much about the car but most of them say it'll run like hell. There is some rust on the body just below the doors, and a very small hole rusted through the skin of the passenger side door. also rust on the bottom side lip of the hood that extends past the grill. the drivers side floor plan don't look to good from underneath either. Its locked up tight, so until he gets there with the keys i can't tell much else. what i said about where it was imported is all he told me. He isn't the one who imported it, but all he tell me is he got it from someone else. I'm probably getting the car no matter what. I'm in the Army so its not like i've got anything better to spend my money on. Plus i'm hooked up with this little import shop in town who can get some deals w/ their buddies at a body and paint shop. There's just something about that car....i can't really explain it.
  21. Hello, I'm new to the forum and i need some help finding info on a car. I live in North Carolina and i've come across 280z that's been imported over. The current owner can't tell me much about the car so I'm currently searching for information. All I've been told about the car is that it was built for racing for a European family. It was built by a company called Eva Racing. The owner says that it is 77 model and it has a 2.8L engine with triple Weber carbs. It is still RHD and the body and interior are in need of restoration. THe color appears to be a two tone maroon red w/ black running along the lower portion of car and a yellow stripe separting the two colors. It also has a chin spoiler with the words "EVA DATSUN Z" in reverse lettering across it. It also has a "Fairlady Z" badge on the rear deck. I was given the VIN # but i believe it was told to me incorrectly. it is GS31003232 I WILL be buying the car by the end of the week simply for the rarity of RHD, but i would appreciate any info you could give me. 1000 bones don't seem like a bad deal on something of that rarity. Bet i can talk him down too.
