Hey bud, pm me your phone number and I can help you. Thats what I do for a living is work at a starting and charging specialist. I have 2 73 240's, i've never jumped or touched the regulator plugs, just left them plugged in. I'd be glad to text you pictures and walk you through what is wrong. S is battery sense, it shouldn't have a diode, it needs to read constant battery voltage to know what to put out. The other terminal is either "lamp" or "trio", this would be the Top terminal on that alt you have a T plug, the top part of the T is the lamp trio and should have voltage only when you turn the ignition on. If you don't put a diode in the car will not turn off with the key because the alt will backfeed voltage to the ignition. The S terminal needs battery voltage or it won't kick on and charge. Hopefully this helps, that bird nest you've got going on there looks fun we deal with stuff like that all day long.

Are you keeping track of your hours? I'd be very interested in how much time it takes you to complete. Very nice metal work too.
  5. It is starving for sure. Carbs all look good and clean inside. Ran it till it started hesitating and shut the ignition off and the filter is dry with a few bits of sediment in it. Yeah j bolts.
  6. Eventhough its wet out, I drove my Z today. Rust is the enemy but he its not pretty anyway. I'm not a showpiece, nor are my 2 Z's so i'm going to enjoy them both every chance I get.
  7. Oh no, they are 4 screw round tops. I never had the unfortunate experience of ever dealing with the flat tops but it sounds painful . I guess what i'm trying to see is if there is a way to tell if you are starving for fuel, not driving looking under the hood and revving the fuel filter never ever dries up but thats no where near the demand as driving the car.

I bought another 73 a few weeks ago and got it running. I drove it yesterday about 150 miles. In addition to being the first time in my entire life i've ever ran out of gas I got a good feel for my tune and I really feel i'm starving for fuel. Is there a difinitive way to tell its starving? The fuel filters get dirty pretty quickly. I attributed this to sitting for a year but maybe not. I've replaced plugs, wires, installed a pertronix ignition with flamethrower coil, I bought a uni-sync and have the carbs pretty close from what I feel, has a new mechanical fuel pump. It doesn't matter how rich or lean I go the car runs exactly the same. It runs great at idle and revving it up at idle. It runs and drives fine if you drive it easy but if you try to give it to her and run the gears out first feels great, chirps second, weaker, weaker, until finally she doesn't really have it. Its not terrible, just feels corked up. I guess what I'm getting at is, is there a difinitive way to tell its starving without pulling the tank off and sending it out and hoping that fixes it? My other Z was quite obvious due to its condition when I bought it. I used moyer fuel tanks to sandblast and coat it and have been very pleased with the results.
  9. I've seen a few the size of a mop sink in the thousands. The one I've got isn't large enough to even submerge an entire SU and it was 300 bucks. The good thing is it is true ultrasonic and if it's under water it gets clean so you just turn whatever you clean a few times until each section is submerged and cleaned up. It just takes a little longer
  10. It always seems that after you do find it, one pops up the same week, cheaper and in better shape .
  11. ultra sonic machines take a lot of elbow grease out of cleaning old carbs. It uses ultra sonic vibration, water, light detergent and a little heat. Think of a jewelry cleaner just bigger. They really work great. You can use them with both heat or no heat. Nothing crazy most of the time you can use just plain water in them and they work pretty well but if not I add a little simple green and boy they come out looking brand new.I've heard of guys putting atv cyliners in them and the sleeves rattling out . I'll clean my carbs by hand. I don't need to take a chance ruining a 40 year old carburetor because I wanted to take a shortcut

  13. I appreciate the information, especially coming from you Bruce. I'm pretty sure i'm capable of doing it, i've done hundreds of different ATV and motorcycle carburetors over the years, the best thing i've purchased is an ultrasonic machine. I just havn't gotten over the anxiety of disabling my fun weekend toy but since i bought another one I guess one can be down for a few days. . Are there any sort of conerns with using an ultrasonic machine with these carbs? Any particular parts I should shy away from putting in it? I've heard of guys having items that were pressed together coming apart but i've never had any trouble.
  14. Well, I guess I'm showing my experience and long and behold schooled by Bruce at ZTHERAPY!!!!! I day dream about sending you my carbs I just can't afford it right now. I've got two sets that need some serious help. I raced ATV's for years, I'm 31 and have more metal in my right leg than is imagineable from 2 accidents. Fake knee, the whole nine. I got rid of all my race quads and got 2 240z's and the carbs are nothing like an ATV carb, well maybe the ones with a rubber diaphram on top a little. The reason why I thought they had gaskets is the kits they sell that I can see pictures of have gaskets approximatly or so I thought the same size with 4 screw holes. I'm now guessing its scale is much smaller than I thought and is actually for the float bowls and yes I feel really dumb . I feel great though, my first night as a member on this site and I get schooled by you
  15. I'm getting ready to tear down my carbs on my z. I can't find the dash pot gaskets anywhere. Black dragon/msa all have the 4 screw dash pots in stock but I havn't found a kit and havn't seen any on ebay. Any ideas?
  16. Dropped about $1000 on my new Z to get it up to speed with my other one. New wheels/tires/ignition/ doesn't take long does it? Got my tires today, wheels should be here tomorrow, might have my ignition set before the weekend i hope. I did start my new addition and let her warm up to see how well she started after carb tuning this past weekend. Second key turn it fired right up did not touch the chokes or gas pedal a bit,
  17. I've got 225/50/15 kuhmo ecsta's on both my cars and LOVE them. They are mounted on 15x7 inch wheels 0 offset. Best set up i've found so the above comments are very true. No rubbing, no fender trimming. I have found I roast clutches faster with this much meat on the ground.
