  1. Hoping you just get some "normal" ones. I personally can't stand the ricer trend of white/colored headlights. It doesn't make a significant (if at all) visibility improvement for them, and it is excessively blinding to other drivers.

I had the same symptoms before with a front tire. Turned out the tire was coming apart on the inside. It had one part that was slightly out of round, and I only noticed the lump while rolling the tire along the garage floor with my hand sliding on top. The whump-whump-whump only showed up at low speeds, like when rolling up to a stop sign. At least dismount the suspect wheel, and do some close examination of the tire.

I tried the Pertronix setup 6 years ago, and my tach started flaking out. It would bounce around like crazy. Problem went away after going back to the original points setup. I know others have had no problems with the Pertronix setup, but that was my experience. Also, it's my experience that intermittent dash lights are the result of either a bad fuse block (corrosion, melting of the plastic parts holding the connections together), or a bad combination switch.
  4. Looks good, looks like the flap will help prevent grounding a wrench to the fender also (never want to do that again).

Thought I should point out that the original poster has a 280ZX... It seems most of the replies in this thread are tailored towards someone swapping an L28ET into an S30. This thread should be moved to the 280ZX engine & drivetrain board.
  6. I'd make sure your thermostats are at least working... I know the odds are low, but maybe you have two defective ones that are staying wide-open regardless of temperature. Think of it this way: your engine is producing a ton of excess heat as it produces power, and that heat has go to somewhere. Your engine-block and cylinder head are a wizz poor heat exchanger with the air, and really can't get rid of that energy without the radiator. If your mechanic measured the thermo housing temp, and only got 140, that would tell me that the coolant was actually running through the radiator after all, most likely uninhibited. You can test your thermostats by suspending them in some string in a pot of hot water with a candy thermometer (and I say suspending them in order to keep them off the bottom. The bottom of an actively heated pan will be hotter than the water inside, and if in contact with the thermostat, will conduct a lot of heat into it, affecting your test).
  7. Do you mean Kia?

AFAIK the bumper overrider bars were simply a dealer add-on. Not my cup of tea, I feel it makes the car look too busy.
  9. Not without cutting away the fenders and putting some flares on, I would think Rewinds are pretty cheap, I considered some Rotas also, but I felt like the shape of the spokes looked a little more modern, so I went with the Rewinds. Only 15x7 in my case, I don't feel like low profile tires belong on a classic car. JMHO
  10. 918 orange, although I've had people insist it's 110 red on me before. Of course, the original paint sticker reads 918, and the outside of the car matches the untouched spare tire well, etc. I guess memory fades like photographs sometimes!
  11. If you just want to see activity, click the "new posts" link on the left. Every day I log in here there are plenty of new posts for me to read. RX7s appeal to a much younger set of people than most classic Z owners. As such, most of them are more computer-savvy, having grown up with computers. I think you'll find there are a lot of active Z people who rarely come to internet forums.
  12. I was told this as well, it didn't matter that I live in a city with good public transportation (which is free for me) and I use that for everything. Then there's the woman's car that gets used for occasional shopping trips. The Z is just for fun. I only put about 1500 miles on her last year, mostly driving every few weekends in the countryside.
  13. I replaced my outer tie rod ends only months ago, and the rubber boot that came with it from MSA has already split wide open on one side. Great quality! Ordering the urethane boots soon

I can second your assertion about the MSA shroud. Bought mine about 4-5 years back, and although mine had no breaks or cracks, I was not impressed with the quality. I hope you can get your $80 back

Looks good. Are you going to repaint that area to match the rest, or do a full strip-down of the car and repaint? I'm worried for the future of my rockers and dogleg, I'm starting to see some slight bubbling on the passenger side
  17. It's my understanding that the stuff in the reservoir oxidizes over time, which is what causes it to become darker. When was the last time you flushed it out with fresh fluid?
  18. Letting perceived technical misinformation stand uncontested on the forum would be about as ridiculous as not saying anything to discredit your completely ignorant comment right there. If there is conflicting information, pursuit of the truth, with room for debate along the way, is the only way to resolve the issue. I am so glad people have debated numerous topics on this forum in the past. I've found many threads in the archives that started out in disagreement and finally arrived at some sort of consensus that helped me with my own Z problems. Had those people just stated their conflicting information and moved on, how would I as a user seeing this for the first time, decide who was correct, and what course of action would be best to take? I'm not a technical expert on the information discussed in this thread, so I did not have an opinion either way, but I was still glad that there was some discussion involved. For what it's worth, I blocked off my intake coolant lines years ago and never looked back. Our warm weather down here doesn't have much need for intake preheating. Those are my two cents on the matter, and I'm done and unsubscribed to this thread. After a brief look at your profile, it seems to me you may simply be yet another disgruntled 280ZX owner who is unhappy with the lack of support this forum offers your vehicle in particular. Zcar.com has a lot of S130 owners, maybe you would be more at home there.
  19. Anywhere in town I've bought gas in the last 2-3 years has been 10% ethanol, with 85% ethanol popping up here and there. The only places that have straight gasoline anymore are way out in the country around these parts.
  20. While I agree that this thread has gotten a bit ugly, I don't know where you get the idea that this site has "a bad name." A bad name compared to what? This discussion would have gone far worse at any other Z site I have ever visited.
  21. I haven't had the problems you mentioned yet, but it hasn't quite gotten that hot here (it will later this summer). Lately everywhere I go just sells the 10% ethanol stuff. I'm not at all happy about this, since I know this is simply about keeping those massive corn farming government subsidies flowing. Same reason you have to look really hard to find food and drinks that aren't using high fructose corn syrup instead of real sugar.

I think you need to invest in a multimeter and learn how to use it. We can give you suggestions, but when it comes down to it, we can only go off what you tell us, which is limited to what you know about the situation. I honestly can't imagine troubleshooting electrical problems without a multimeter. As an analogy, I would say that would be like trying to put a jigsaw puzzle together in the dark. You could have easily verified if your fan was getting voltage with a multimeter, without having to follow wires or remove any parts - just unplug the two wires, stick the multimeter leads in there, and measure the voltage. Simple. Just my 2 cents. Good luck!

How long ago did you make the switch? I bought their kit earlier this year. I assumed the plug material was hot glue, just from looking at it. What gets hot, anyway?
  24. Nice, may end up moving to Virginia in another half decade or so, hopefully he will still be in business by then

Wow, you must be really tall. I have enough room back there for a little angled 16x9 speaker box on each side.
