These are the 72 - 3 screw versions with adapter plates for the flat top conversions on the 73 -240 or the 74 260 so the square type stock air cleaner will fit. You can also use them with a stock earlier round style air cleaner 72 <. Both carbs are in good shape. Your best bet is to run the stock needles n-54 . The sm needles are very rich running & should be used only if your engine is modified with a bigger cam & headers ect. You could try the sl needles which run a leaner than the sm. Which needles are in there now? The jets could also be worn out & need to be replaced? Did you check the float adjustments & if they were loaded with fuel?
