Z Update
It still amazes me how he was so enthusiastic about the trade. I know his dad wasn't too happy, since he restores vettes and has a good idea about the Z's worth. But I guess whatever the kid wanted to do with his car he could do it. Kind of funny, but it turns out the civic has traded hands several times since the kid got it. I know a guy at a tire shop in town, and he says it's been in there for an alignment by several different people. -Ben

why dont we see gt wings on zs?
Regardless of functionality, I believe they look out of place on the Z, and screw with the lines. Case in point, here was the one on my Z when I first got it: -Ben

Z Update
Hey guys, I haven't posted in quite a while. I'm the guy who was lucky enough to trade his 1990 Honda Civic for a clean 70. Anywho, a few updates on the Z. I swapped the toasted four speed for an 83 ZX five speed I pulled from the junk yard. Actually, my dad and I were able to snag two for a great price, (it was half off day.) The better unit went in without too much fuss. Finally located a bumper and drove to southern C.A. to get it. Then we had to buy some brackets off ebay. It's on now and fits great. My dad has been scouring ebay for hard to find parts and we have a collection of goodies in the garage ready to throw on. Turned out to be the best place to find parts for the Z. An example: we managed to buy two tachometers, a speedometer, two clocks and a few other gauges for a good price. Next job is to replace the tach. After that we will probably be replacing all the worn suspension parts and bushings. The cars a little wobbly above 70 Only bad news is that the car was broken into and the radio was stolen. The thieves busted my left corner window to get it. Luckily insurance covered it and they managed to find a replacement a state over. That’s about all I can think of. Check out www.cardomain.com/id/pman240z for updated pics. The hatch is getting refinished after Christmas break, so that will be nice. -Ben

Tranny swap.
Hey guys, Well, I picked up two 83 ZX 5 speeds at the junk yard and put in the one with lower miles. We had to do a little bit of creative cutting, (like the shifter well for clearance), but it was a pretty easy swap, and it's nice to have a backup... Thanks again for the helpfull info :classic: -Ben

Tranny swap.
Thanks guys for all the replies... I appreciate it Got the tranny out today... drained the fluid and twisted reminants of bearing shards came out with the fluid After looking it over, it seems the previous owner never changed the fluid... so even if we had it wouldn't have saved it. Ah well, on to tranny hunting -Ben

Screen Names - Where Do They Come From?
Not sure what exactly brought me to choose MrPeabody... At the time I hadn't thought of the cartoon with the dog, (who's name is Mr. Peabody), and the boy who hangs out with him... Were they characters on Rocky and Bullwinkle? Either way, it's kinda catchy -Ben

Tranny swap.
Hey, did a search for some info but couldn't find much. Well, my tranny kicked the bucket today. Looks like it's time for a swap. I've heard that it's possible to swap in later model 5 speeds in the earlier models, (such as my 70 that came with the 4 speed...) What years should I shoot for and what's involved? I heard that the only modification needed was to widen the hole for the shifter due to the 5 speed shifter being located further forward. Any help would be appreciated, thanks. -Ben

Pics of the 240
Well, i'm taking the wing of this week and plan to sell it to some honda kid. How much you think I should ask for it? It's an APC double deck wing. -Ben

I suppose if a car is powerful enough to get up to higher speeds, the downforce provided helps it to stick to the road better, hence the use in most motorsports. As far as the one on my car, I doubt it affects anything, plus it looks bad on the Z anyways. -Ben

On another note, I have a question. How does one load a picture to be used as their icon? I couldn't find out how... -Ben

The design looks like it might overlap the previous holes from the wing on there now. Maybe all i'll have to do is bondo them, pimer then seal them, no paint match. Hmmm... -Ben

. The wing is quite a monstrosity isn't it? Anywho, it's a 1970 240Z. The engine has 2500 miles on it I traded it straight across for a 1990 Honda Civic Hatchback to a 17 year old who thought the honda was "cooler." The body is perfect, paint is new, interior is practacally mint. Needs a front bumper, (should have seen what he did to it to try and "modify" it.) The only rust spot is in the fender-well next to the battery. Good thing is my dad's been welding for over 20 years, so we should have that fixed in no time. Only thing mechanical is a slightly leaky tranny, and I believe it needs a new cluth/flywheel. The car was previously owned by an older woman who kept it garaged and took great care of it. The 17 year old bought it, added allot of stickers and the wing, (stickers went the second I bought it), then he wrecked another car. Needless to say, he had to sell the car due to insurance rates climbing on his part. Which actually doesn't make sence because the Z is less in insurance. Either way, I ended up with the Z, which is worth far more than the civ to And it's a million times better than the civic -Ben

Buy Opportunity
Well, I was going to pick it up today, but the seller wants one more day to think about it, so i'll know by tomorrow if it's a go or not. Rust spots check out, only place is the floor pan seeing as how I can't inspect it. Would their be any usable signs from underneath? Oh yes, I did drive it, my civic doesn't even come close to comparing Like I said before, the paint is flawless, interior's perfect engine runs great, (2500 miles on the engine actually, receipts to prove it), ect ect

Thanks for the info. My father has been welding for over 20 years, so I don't believe it would be a problem. I'll deffinently go over it very carefully...

Buy Opportunity
As of right now i'm waiting for a response from my insurance agent to see the costs. Once I get that cleared up, it should be a go. Well, the seller is 17. He and his dad bought it from an older woman to fix up. He just recently got into a wreck, (in other vehicle), and needs to sell the car to free up some costs since his insurance rates are about to spike. He was asking $2800, but seems to like the idea of a straight across trade. I'm sure the market value for one in such good condition is higher. $5000 or so? Me and my dad, (I'm 18), gave it another look over and didn't find rust in the main problem areas. The only thing I could find was a small hole wearing through the wheel well, (you can see the battery through it.)

I did give it a good look over and there was no rust as far as I can tell, I'll do some searching and find the problem areas. It was previously owned by an older woman who kept it in a garage, and it has been here in California, no salt The seller bought it from her and restored it with his dad.
