Cobra Style Side Exhausts
By changing the contrast, it sure makes my car look funny. At least it does show the exhausts better. I am glad that my car is red and not orange.

The exhaust pipes are 2.5 inches. I had a tab welded on the pipes just ahead of the mufflers. This tab is bolted to the subframe. If you do not install a subframe, you could attach it to the stock subframe. I had a complete subframe built and bolted to the floor which attaches to a full roll cage. I did this because I ran the car at the Silverstate Race in Nevada. At speeds over 180 mph they require a full roll cage. The race is 90 miles on a two lane highway from Lund Nevada to Hiko Nevada. The slowest class is 95 mph, so most all stock cars can compete and have a lot of fun. You can check this out at: http://www.geocities.com/freakracing/raceinfo.html It has been a few years since I ran the race, but if they are still doing it, it is a blast. Zcars do very well in the race.

I forgot to add that they were very easy to install. I used the shorty headers off the ZZ3 engine and went out the wheelwell. This gives the car extra ground clearance since I installed lowered springs. It has adjustable shocks, large sway bars and neopreme bushings so the cornering is very good. At thunderhill road course, it handled equal to the high dollar Vetts in the corners, and ate them up when on the 5/8 mile straight.

The pipes are painted black, so they are hard to see. I have a bracket on a subframe rail on both sides. Try looking at the below picture, and you can make out the sidepipe.

Yes, I have side exhausts on my 240ZV8. They give more ground clearance than having the exhausts under the car. I have not had any burns or problems with exiting the car. I chose this type of exhaust mainly to lower the car for top speed aerodynamics. I am very happy with them.

Speeding ticket? how fast?
Over the years, I have had to many tickets. I have owned fast cars that I got myself into trouble with. 1966 Ford Fairlane 427, 1970 Mustang Mach 1 428 super cobra jet, and even in my 1984 300ZXT which can only go 145 mph. I am sure that with add on's the 300ZXT could go faster, but mine is stock. The 240ZV8 top speed should be 185 mph. I have not taken it up that fast, and speedometer reading would not be accurate. It would have to be radared to know for sure.

Speeding ticket? how fast?
I should elaborate. The ticket was issued by the Nevada Highway Patrol during the Silverstate Race on Hwy 318. They radar each vehicle and then after the race, give you a complementary ticket. This was with my 73 240ZV8.

I Sat In A Datona Cobra Coupe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am a FE guy and have one 427 and five 428's. The cobra's and datona coupes used the big block and small block. With the 427 they were unbeatable.

maximum amount of nitrous?
Thanks for all the information. I would want at least a 200 hp shot of nitrous to make the power that I would want. From what you all have said, that power level would not be good for the engine. I have another Z that I have a 350 ZZ3 engine in, that has over 400 hp. but it is set up for top end. Instead of installing another 350, I was hoping that with nitrous, I could get over 300 hp. on the other 240Z that I have. Oh well. I have a 300zx turbo that is bone stock, and has good power for the street, but is not suited for the strip. I have a 427 Ford engine and a 428 Super CobraJet engine, but they will not fit without using a torch. I just thought that it would be fun to run the stock L series engine with nitrous at the drag strip. Thanks again....

maximum amount of nitrous?
Anyone know the maximum amount of nitrous that can be used on a stock block 240, 260, 280 befoe bad things start to happen. I plan to remove the carbs and intake and install the four barrel intake with a 500 cfm holly, and use a plate injection system under the carburator. This is for the dragstrip and street use.
