I am unable to get the door locking mechanism to fully release. It releases about 1 in and the catches. Does the same using inner or outer door handle. Removed door panel and everything seems intact. Ant suggestions?

I have a 71 240z. The passenger door won't open. Using either the inner latch or outer door handle releases the latch/lock about 1 in. There it catches and won't release further. I have tried poking thru the gap with a long screwdriver, removed the door panel and tried there but I can not get it to release.
  3. the compression in the other 5 cylinders was good (170), the valves have not been adjusted since i bought the car 1 1/2 years ago.Been driven 3-4 k miles. Also noted smoke coming out of breather on top of valve cover, ? related

I have a 1971 240z and unfortunately recently discovered it has little to no compression in cylinder 6. I live in a remote area of Georgia and there are not any Datsun spec nearby. So instead of rebuilding my engine I am thinking of buying a rebuilt motor. I have seen a few places on the internet and am wondering if anyone has any suggestions. I have spoke with Datsunpartsllc, Rebello and a few others. I'm sure I want to change to 2.8 liter block and maybe a performance cam. I don't want a racing engine but something with good power and reliability. My current engine is pretty stock except for headers,an electric fuel pump and smog equip removed. I would eventually like to change the SU carbs to triple Mikunis or webers

I have a 71 240 ,I recently installed an electric fuel pump and removed the mech pump.the pump is working but since I installed it fuel is leaking from the banjo bolt on the float bowl of the carbon the left(closest to front). I cleaned the float but the problem persists.Any suggestions?,is this problem related to the new pump or just a coincidence?

That was my take on the situation. It was my first Zcar event. Based on what you are saying their approach is not typical of other events. Again my prev experiance with other makes was with detailed judging sheets with specific comments for deductions. Are there z events that use more detailed judging?

To answer the above post ,I don't think cleanliness was a criteria. I say that because I am compulsive about detailing, including under the car ,suspension etc. They did not mention anything about ZCCA criteria, but I do not know if it was used.In response to not caring about the judging ,that is just not in my character. If i am entered in something i want to know what i need to do to improve/win.

A few months ago I attended znationals outside Atlata ,Ga with my 71 240z. Iwas excited when I won peoples choice award for 1970-1989 cars. However in the judged class they only announced first place winners, which was not me. My question is , what criteria do they use for judging. I have been involved with other marques in the past , having participated in Concours competitions. This z event was definately not judged like a concour, but i have no clue as to what they are looking for. Is it originality?, condition?, individual taste?. I tried to get Judging sheets after the event but had no luck. Any suggestions or answers?

I know that most of you will think Im crazy but I want to add ac to my z. It is mostly stock except for headers and exhaust, along with brake and susp upgrades. When I had my z in the mid 70s the first thing I did was take off the ac. At the time I was living in SoCal and it wasnt missed. Now years later I live in south Georgia and last year bought this 71 z . It is so hot and humid a cant drive/enjoy the car during the hot summer. I have been unable to find an aftermarket or orig kit to fit my car. Motorsports had one in the past but is currently unavailable. Does anyone have any suggestions?

What is the best way to access/ remove the old clock?
  14. Thanks for all ypur help. Last night I figured out the problem. Of course it had nothing to do with the headers, The coil was bad and jumping spark. Replaced the coil and starts right up. Still dont know what the noise was/is since it fires immediately. Sorry to be a pain and again appreciate the help
  15. the car ran great prior to the swap. It had a crack in the exhaust near the manifold. It was causing fumes and you could hear the leak but otherwise ran well. It sat for about 2 weeks while waiting for the headers. While sitting I cleaned up the engine block and repainted it. Also removed and replaced the starter motor to repaint and polish, but it seems to be working fine. I did have the plug wires off during this ,and was careful to keep the placement straight, and I did check the conections and they seem ok.
