2-Way Radios (FRS/GMRS)
FWIW I have the Motorola T6250 (about three years old now) and they work nicely. We took them to New Orleans and from the hotel to the river (about 1 mile) there didn't do too well (LOTS of interference with other radio waves, buildings, etc; this was all in the French Quarter mind you) but on shorter distances around the area they worked nicely. Here's a webpage that describes their features decently: http://www.csonline.net/crawford/T6250.htm You can also check out people's opinions here: http://www.epinions.com/pr-Motorola_Talkabout_T6250_2-way_Radio Personally I like it but for longer distances keep your cell phone handy.

HLS30-08323 08/70 finds a new home...
Check out my gallery, those pix were taken three years ago right after bringing her home and cleaning her up a bit. It basically looks the same except for the spare tire well, I sanded it down to bare metal then used POR-Putty to fill any rust holes and then applied POR15 to prevent any rust in this area ever again.

240z shell
Is it a roller? If so transporting it would be a lot easier...just roll it up onto a trailer. This would make a big difference in shipping costs for zman!

Hmm.. here are my compression results on all 6 cylinders.. Good or Bad
They are low but the good news is that they are consistant. This means that your engine is tired but it is wearing evenly and properly.

What do you think of this Z?
Do a quick search on ATK and you will find many threads talking about them including this one: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3799&highlight=atk

240z shell
Point in case: http://www.classiczcars.com/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=474&sort=1&cat=last1&page=1 However this one is grossly over priced in my opinion. Just look at the rust!!

Radiator Support Mounting Points
Are the mounting points on a 240Z and a 280Z for the radiator the same?
-
pulling engine/trans together
Yes. Unbolt the drive shaft from the diff then drop the rear of the shaft and just pull it out of the tranny (be sure that you are pulling it straight back).

240z shell
I have been thinking the same thing! But I already have two parts cars and no place for them so a third is out of the question. If you do make the trip to get it let me know if you pass through the area.

240z shell
I cited the abandoned project specifically as I have seen several Z cars for sale for this very reason. I drug my feet on one just 100 miles from me last year and have kicked my self for doing so...I had seen the shell previously and it was perfect (except for the sunroof hole in the roof) and he only wanted $100 for it. :stupid:

Blast Cabinet Question
Will, no that will work. I just was not sure what kind of bag you were using; I was thinking a freezer bag. I was also curious how you sealed it up. Thank you.

Whats this called?
Ahhh yes, it was only a matter of time before someone said it.

240z shell
I disagree on one point...you will find good shells for sale frequently. There are many reasons for this and not the least of which is someone started a project and for what ever reason is giving up. Another reason would be someone who parted out a 'rust free' car (who knows why, but probably because it no longer ran and they didn't want to spend the time/money to fix it or maybe didn't know any better) and is now left with only the shell. I would agree that these are fewer than complete cars though but when found are far cheaper than a complete car in the same 'rust free' condition.

Blast Cabinet Question
Ok, I work with my cabinet a bit more today and am thinking that a shop vac is a good idea. :cross-eye Too hard to see with out one. Will, I'm also waiting on that pic you mentioned of how you did the light so I can get a light in there also.

Help From you ole guys
I've been trying to buy this car for weeks and it's way over priced and he will not budge on his reserve!! He refuses to accept the fact that it's not worth what he wants. FYI: reserve is $1000 He has also told me that there are a few missing parts (would not specify, but you can see the hatch vents are gone). Also note that it has the incorrect valve cover for this production date! This car is rusty from what he has told me and what can be seen in the pix. This car has also not been started on 8-10 years per the seller. I advised him that I paid $1500 for my running, driving, licensed, registered, titled Z which is a month older than his (i.e. lower VIN FWIW) and FAR less rust. He has yet to reply...and probably will not. I wouldn't pay more than $500 for this one personally.

Need help finding a rust-free shell for a '72
Before you crush it please let me know as I would like some pieces from it. That is unless the whole shell goes to a good home which I'd also rather see.

Year vs Build date
Now that is VERY interesting!!

I was wondering the same thing this afternoon!!

Year vs Build date
The number of cars you are thinking were produced in a month is likely about right. In mid to late 1970 I have calculated that they were putting out about 2000 Z cars per month. This is just a rough guess since we only know the month of production and not the day (big difference between the 1st and 30th of the month). They seem to have really ramped up production after the first part of the year when they realized how popular the car was.
