Bought a 1980 280zx with a few issues
I figured out where the oil leak is coming from. Its under the blower motor to the right of the oil filter. I dont know what this part is called, but its right on top of the suspension brace. It has a boot on the end. What is this part called and why could it be leaking?

Also another issue is sometimes it will stay at approx 2k rpm when idling at a red light or whatever; could that be a spring thats bad or something?

Bought a 1980 280zx with a few issues
Just bought myself a 1980 280zx. Always wanted one and now that I have the funding to fix one up I decided it was time I went in with the mindset that I am going to have to fix whatever I buy up and this car has its fair share of issues. Any input will be much appreciated! Heres the issues I noticed. Leaking oil, appears to be from the pan gasket but not too sure on that. Power steering is whining; not bad though. Idles rough; 500-600 rpm when cold, owner claimed it was the timing. He did leave it cold before I got there he did not warm it up to hide anything. He seemed to be very straight forward and honest. They also want me to bring the car back when I get her all fixed up Oil blow by, dont know how much but there was residue under the hood towards the front. Runs rich Also another issue is sometimes it will stay at approx 2k rpm when idling at a red light or whatever; could that be a spring thats bad or something? Throwout bearing is going out atleast thats what I think, can hear it without clutch pushed in, but engaged you cant hear it. Needs new shocks and struts. Needs new rear hatch struts which are included with the car. The good though is when I test drove it, all the power seemed to be there, 146k miles and man it was still pretty quick, no grinds from the trans or clutch slippage either.

Just Bought a 1980 280zx
Hi guys! No stranger to car forums here. A little background on me, I am an A&P Aircraft Mechanic and work for the Navy as a Civilian. I work on Beechcraft T-34c Turboprops I went to a vocational school to get the license and have been working this job for almost 2 years since I have gotten out. I have rebuilt both an airplane recip motor which are very similar to air cooled VW and Subaru motors for those who don't know and a Geo Metro. Ive got a good amount of experience when it comes to tearing in to things and am always willing to learn more. Anywho now for the Z I live in california. Buying something used or older atleast in my area can be pretty expensive for some reason when compared to other parts of the US idk why this is but it is how it is. The owners of the Z I just bought wanted 2700 originally but I talked them down to 1500. They accepted the offer after an hour or so and called me back. Its got a few issues that need to be addressed; none the less I went in to this with the mindset that It needs work. Im supposed to be picking it up tomorrow.
