Well she is up on the rotisserie and the new floor panel seams are all welded up. Now that I can see everything so much better I realized that either I missed a reinforcement plate on the drivers rear floor or there wasn't one there originally(I think I missed it). Does anybody know if this is supposed to be on both sides? Jeff

Thanks for all the responses. I bolted up the mounts to the rear bumper locations but was a little leery of actually attaching the rotisserie. Since everybody is saying they have done it without problems I guess it must be OK, so it will go on tomorrow after work. I'll post a picture when it is mounted. Jeff

Hello all, I have finally gotten to the point where I can mount the Z to the rotisserie. The front isnt going to be a problem but the rear bumper mounts dont look to be strong enough to hold the entire car up. Is there anybody out there who has any info on how they attatched the rear to the rotisserie? Any help would be appreciated, pics doubly so!! Jeff

Dan, The decal arrived Friday. It looks absolutely terrific. I am going to touch up a couple of spots on the booster and hopfully get it applied this weekend. Thanks Again, Jeff

I would also like to pick one up. When you are ready just PM me. They look great!!

Dan, If you are going to be selling the decals I will be interested in one. It makes a huge difference with the look of the booster. Jeff

I wonder if I could paint it with a gloss black and then put a wet coat of Eastwoods diamond clear satin over it to take some of the gloss off? Ill try it on a scrap piece of metal and see what happens. If it doesnt turn out right I will have to get a pint of Gloss Black and a flattening agent and use my small gun to get the 85-90% gloss. Jeff

Thanks to everyone for helping. All the aluminum parts turned out great from the glass bead cabinet. Jeff

Thanks xray, That looks like pretty much the same finish that was left on the original unit. Was the sticker in that nice condition or did you get a replacment somwhere? Mine is mostly shot.

Hello All, I just finished glass beading the Brake booster down to the bare metal and I am not sure about the original finish. Does anybody know if it was gloss black or had a % of a flattening agent added? The small amount that was left looked like gloss but after 35 years it is hard to tell. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Jeff

You named most of the movies I have. The only other ones are... Two-Lane Blacktop Stroker Ace RPM The Junkman Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry Dont know which movies you would call strictly car movies but all revolve around the vehicles in the movie.

Hello, texasz I finished the drivers side a few months ago and started the passenger side today. The Zedd pans and extensions underneath worked out great. Take your time and a lot of measurements for the seat mounts. I measured from the rear vertical wall directly behind the seats to the center of the seat mounting holes. This saves a lot of hassle when trying to align everything when reinstalling the seat mounts. The easiest way I found to take them out was to just cut the floor around them away since it was going anyway. After they are out you can just use a grinder to take the spot welds off of them and drill holes where the welds originally were to reinstall to the new floors. The spot weld cutter and drill was a little big to work around the seat mounting in the car. Also only do one side at a time if possible so you always have a reference if needed. Here is a pic of the drivers side installed, not perfect but it will work. Hope this helps.

I love these posts! It lets you see all the Z stories out there. I picked up my 72 240 in 1988 from the original owner. It was my everyday car for 5 years and then parked for 10 years till I started the rebuild in 2003.

I'm looking for functionality more than totally stock looks. Most of the metal brackets I can glass bead and powder coat orange to match the car, but the rubber is all dry rotted. If the Urethane works let me know. I would be interested in where you got it and how you made them. Thanx, Jeff

Dont know if these pics will help but it cant hurt to put them up. I went out into the garage and dug out the bag with the hard line insulators in it for pictures. I also took pics of the original hard line clamps still on the old lines. These are off a 72. They arent in the greatest shape but I still have to try to find replacements. The hard line clamps are very close to 1/2" wide.

The actual mirror is cracked but I am going to take the rest anyway. A glass company can cut and install a new mirror if I ever need it.

Well I went again after work today. Picked up the grill, original exhaust manifold, rear interior panel 2 of the marker lights and all 4 trim pieces and screws for the markers, under hood light, all the hood hardware including the hinges, the board that covers the spare and the spare tire with rim and hold down and a whole bunch of misc. bolts and trim pieces. The pics below show the car as it sits now. The hood was hit in the front and it looks like someone stepped on it so that is no good. The fenders are rotted on the bottom. I am going to take the headlight buckets and taillights on the next trip along with the valve cover and head and whatever else I can get in that trip.

The owner of the yard has assured me he has no intention of crushing or getting rid of the Z. It looks like I will be busy after work for a couple of weeks taking everything that I can off of the body.

I just got back from the yard!! I got the original manifolds and carbs still attatched, the Holley and intake off the engine, (it is a "Bob Sharp Racing" manifold) a bunch of little trim pieces and parts and the original air cleaner and heat shield for $50. I have to go back tomorrow to get more, including the original exhaust manifold which is odd. I figured it would have headers with the 4-barrel carb. I forgot to take a camera but will take it with me tomorrow. The build date is 7/71 and the serial is HLS30-36350. It has a vertical defogger in the back and 63358 miles on the Odometer. That is probably about right since it has been parked over 20 years. I see normal rust in the battery box area and bottom of the front fenders but I cant see underneath or even get to the front seats due to it being so close to other cars. I had to crawl in through the hatch to check the glovebox and storage compartments. The only thing I can see missing is the passenger door glass and cover. See the attached pic for most of what I got today. He wont sell the whole car but said nobody has even looked at it in over 10 years so I can take what I want fairly cheap!!

I am going over after work. I will write all the info down to let you know, but it looks identicle to mine except yellow not orange. Mine is a 72.

I stopped at a local bone yard looking for a couple things for a friends project and lucked out. While looking around in the yard I found a 240Z tucked away in the back corner surrounded by bigger cars. you couldnt see it unless you climbed over the car next to it. Looks like it has been sitting there since 1985. It looks pretty complete except for the seats and shift knob. The original SUs and intake with air cleaner are in the back and the engine has a 4 barrel intake with a Holly on it. Im going back today to see if I can get the whole car. Cant really see the underside so I am going to assume it is totally rotted away. They also had a 280Z and a 280ZX.

I have gotten the left floor panel installed and have removed the quarterpanel, rocker and outer wheel well and I am getting ready to start reinstalling pieces. My question is about the area behind the rear of the rocker panel and where the quarterpanel and wheel arch meet. This area on both sides of the car have pretty much disolved and I need to rebuild the sub-structure before installing all the new pieces. If anybody has a picture of this area somewhat intact, it would be a big help. i just finished sandblasting the areas and you can see in the picture the area I am talking about. Any help would be appreciated. Thanx, Jeff

Hello to all and a request for help.

JimmyZ and a7dz, Thank you also, The quarter panels are not the full panels. They go from front to back completly but stop about an inch above the body line. When I bought the car it came with fresh paint and no visible rust The original owner had the work done at a body shop and they just put fiberglass quarters over the old ones and put plastic filler at the seams. I originally picked up a patch panel that only went around the wheel well but after I started to remove the fiberglass piece the rust was more extensive. I got lucky just after finding out and picked up both quarters on Ebay for $150 for the pair with shipping.
