Ok--after correcting alot of electrical issues---everything is working properly except one thing. My fuel pump kicks on when key is in on position??? Please if anyone knows why it isn't only when start and run, let me know. The wiring is connected with fuel pump the same way as manufacturer. What could cause this??

I am working on a '78 280z. the 1 car haynes doesn't display a diagram for. Also wondering if the engine cmprtmnt relay is the fuel pump #2 relay?? I got it figured out now. Problem was only 1 bad relay--4 harness connections were burnt out in various ports--and 3 lines fried--that's all.

O.k.--I believe i have pin-pointed problem. But still have question. From my fuse box I have a white w/black line which runs to a split, one white w/b runs to a relay, the other to a harness connection then into eng comprtmnt into another relay. The lines from split on were melted and in bad shape. When I ran a new line to each of these points and finally make last conn in eng cmprtmnt relay, line wants to fry again. Is it one or both relays causing this or something else???:dead: :dead:

Hello--my first posting- I have a '78 280z that i am slowly trying to restore. I also own a '77 280z that has been nice to steal prts off of. First let me tell u that i no longer have original key/ignition. My problem started as just a fuel pump issue-i thought- no fuel getting thru lines. Replace electrical pump forward of tank. NO power to pump. I have a haynes manual-which has 0 diagrams for '78, what a buy, anyway i have been able to trace out f-pump lines. All my fuse have been replaced, the line from pump to fuse box is good, i am unsure as to which fuse is responsible for pump. When looking at panel i believe it is the top right fuse link. A green w/blu wire runs from that one. So when i turn my key no fuel pump, just the other day my starter decided not to kick on when turning key to start. All fuses still good. I am unsure as to which relays under pass dash are related to this(manual does not secify my yr.) as well as unsure for engine cmprt. relays and links. please help!! also, is there not a website with d-loadable diagrams for electrical??? :(
