  1. I pulled the injectors to send in for ultrasonic cleaning and decided that leaving the ports open wasn't a good idea, so I crumpled up a bit of foil for each port to block them off. OOPS ! One piece was a little too small and slid into the port and disappeared into the guts of the L28. It is about the size of a jelly bean and my mechanic says it will probably just blow through when i crank the engine because it is foil. I am somewhat skeptical and have visions of a bent valve, but I'm not real crazy about trying to pull off an intake manifold either. I am a dentist, not a real gearhead like some of you guys. What says the peanut gallery ? Fire it up and pray when the injectors come back, or pull the manifold and retrieve the garbage ? Help !
  2. My '78 one-owner (me) Z is all stock, inluding the original muffler and exhaust system. For the past couple of years it has been making a 'Phhfft !' sound when I let off the gas when shifting gears. My favorite Z mech has found some smallish holes in the muffler and claims those are causing what I interpret to be a backfire. I always thought it was the pther way around...........engine running too rich.......unburned fuel in exhaust.........Bang...........equals holes in muffler. What says the peanut gallery.? I am thinking new exhaust +headers+muffler, but if the engine is running rich I obviously want to get that right before blowing holes in new steel. #1and 2 spark plugs are burning a little dirty.........others are clean. Compression is OK in all sic cyls. Where should I start?

Happy day. My 78' Zmobile was fitted with 16" Konig Silver Rewinds and Cooper RS3's today, but......... The guys at Tire Kingdom tell me that my rack "has some play", and the steering wheel will arc back and forth approx 3" each way before I feel the tires grab and start to turn. My mechanic has told me that new urethane bushings will help a lot to tighten things up and I don't mind spending the bucks for that. Do you think that will do the trick or I looking at a total rack and pinion replacement ? It is a one owner car.........me, and has 105,000 miles on it. No abuse, but I have not ever had to do anything with the steering section. Is my lucky streak over? I remember when it was new it would turn on a dime and give you 5 cents change. I want that tight turning feel again. What to do ? Thanks for your help.
  4. Bought the little stinker new in '78 when I was 31, and just spent a chunk of change getting it refurbed because I just can't part with it. Turned out pretty nice, but now I am looking to change out rims and tires and I have a problem with the air flow meter. Will be interested to see what I can find here. Nathan Mayo.....Orlando, FL
