Dead Injectors?
1978 280Z all stock. Ran fine this morning just driving around, then I pulled into work to check a few things maybe took 20 minutes then I came back out started it up, and it just sputtered and was really just running rough it sounded as though it was missing. It would pop at every rpm and every gear and shakes horribly. I ran through the FSM and the connection test tells me I have no volts going to my injectors 2 and 3 but when I listen to them they sound fine. I went ahead and ordered new injectors for the car. I have no other idea what it could be. Any suggestions or ideas?

Heating Vent Selector.
It controls nothing, it makes no sound or moves heat to different vents at all. The vehicle is a '78 280Z. When moved to air con though it will do something. Right now it seems to be stuck on everything for vent selection it comes from the defrost the floor the main console vent and even the sides. Has anyone else had this problem or can anyone aid me in to fixing this? Thanks in advance guys.

Flat top vs. Shaved head
Not talking about hair styles here, talking about what would be better for a stock '78 280Z with the N47 head. Would i get a better compression from just dropping in 82-83 ZX flat tops or shaving the head down as much as i can? I just want a nice street performance with track in mind. Thanks guys.

I never really took it out on the highway. It has mostly been a town driver for me. But after i replaced the fuel filter i did feel a better response in throttle and it was a bit smoother to. It stalls no more now so thanks guys.

Title says it all, I own a 1978 280Z and the air flow meter I have now is from a 75-76. I called MSA they gave me a list of what it COULD be. The mount i have in there now is a three bolt but I don't know if the PO changed it to. My AFM connection is 5 wire if that helps and the production date is 10/77 if that helps as well.

OKAY haha after checking it out further it seems the fuel filter was to blame so that was an easy fix. However I did go ahead and spend the money for a new AFM cause today it warmed up outside a bit might be about 50 or so and I just quickly revved the engine an black smoke came out. And like I said when it was cold out it ran like a champ not running rich at all so I just went ahead and bought a re manufactured for like 255 that includes the 45 dollar core not taken off.

SteveJ sorry, it's been kinda busy lately with my day off tomorrow I will run through the FSM again and check. And the problem is not just a hot start problem. I live in the midwest and the temperatures can be pretty stupid in both directions. I know that my AFM is a problem as during the hot summer when i bought the car it ran rich EXTREMELY rich. And now with the cold whether it happens to be spot on. But the car ever since I've owned it has always had this starting issue regardless of temperature outside. I'll buy me a fuel pressure gauge cause it does seem after the first try that things are a bit better. I might go ahead and spend the money for a AFM as well.

Insight on an old 240z
Sweet, glad to hear it man. All I know is city service called me and the head guy said that the legal department told him that. They can't even scrap the car without the title, they can't sell it or do anything with it without the title. That's all I know and that's coming from the people i'm trying to buy it from. So at least for now it's safe from getting scrapped.

I just changed the fuel filter, but silly me i forgot to hook the cold start injector after purging it so I guess I will find out tomorrow for sure if that fixed it. And FastWoman, It is normal for my car to need me on the throttle right at start even though it is fuel injected? I do love the antique sports car feel though I love how everyone looks at it and takes pictures of it even though the paint is sun faded an cracked. I love the exhaust note as well I'm extremely happy to own a first gen Z and don't ever see myself getting rid of it. And thanks for all the advice guys I'm still a "rookie" to Z cars and since the closest Nissan dealership is approx. 100 miles away this forum is the next best thing to that.

Again.... I can look MY car up a 78 but not this one a 72. And an update. Acording to there legal department they can't even scrap the car or do anything without the title. They will keep me up to date as things go along, i guess they are trying something else cause they're tired of it taking up space.

There is no title, this is the posing problem haha. But i have yet to confirm what a city worker said to me and that is. The city will work a note out with me saying that I own the car outright and any problems that might happen will come back on the city and not me. As for a title there is not one that is what the problem is haha i thought i said that. But anyway no one owns the title to this car the person they took it from did not have one and the family member that was helping retrieve it ended up walking away.

I just replaced the alternator like 3 days ago, but this has been happening since I have bought the car it's just something annoying that I'd like to fix. My fuel pump kicks on when the key is switched to on even if the engine is not running the fuel pump is. I'll run through the FSM again just to double check everything.

The information you requested could not be processed at this time. Please contact the nearest Secretary of State Facility or call the toll free number. This is what shows up word for word when I just searched the VIN for this car using HLS30069776

Yeah, it's a decent little town. A guy that works for the city stopped in at work today to get some parts for a city truck and we got to talking further. I asked if i was to buy this if the city can draw up a contract and make it a legal contract that states I own the car outright and if anything were to happen it would fall on the city and not me so I'm gonna be making my move to acquire this car.
